I've told myself I would never order a Vivanno if I go into a Starbucks other than my own.
Does anybody not order a certain drink out of respect for your fellow barista?

frapps & vivannos for sure! i find them super annoying to make, the vivannos are disgusting. i feel bad for people who order them. frapps are okay. i only like them in the summer. but i'd probably never order one because theyre extremely over priced. people are pretty much paying for a drink thats mostly ice..

I even feel bad ordering them at my own store. It's like, "Can I get... anorangemangosmoothieI'msorry."

That's why it's iced coffee no classic for me.

If I'm working, I make my own partner beverage.
If someone else has to make it, sweetened iced tea lemonade.
If I'm at a different store, sweetened iced tea lemonade, or a quad espresso.A partner ordering a frappuccino is asking to get decaf.

Same here:
If I'm working, I make my own partner beverage.
If someone else has to make it, it is coffee.I rarely go to Starbucks to get a beverage! I would never decaf a partner unless s/he is being extremely rude.

there was this partner who'd come into our store all the time and get the most obnoxious overmodified drinks, and then she'd bring in friends and partner discount them too BUT WAIT she had a gold card so she'd make us do separate transactions so she could get her points.
it was like, really........? -.-
we considered using her numbers to get markouts for us under her name (and do it at different stores more than once a week) and see if it got her in trouble, but then decided it wasn't worth it.

Normally when I'm handling both register and bar by myself, I put a little extra effort into making a partner's drink perfect. It's an unspoken rule for us to go the extra mile to impress a partner.
But sometimes there are "partners" who order complicated drinks. You know it's bad when they want fractions of a pump or 1/3-1/4 shots of espresso. Secret menu frappuccino as a partner? Decaf. "I have partner numbers." Good for you.

I get a chai... one of the quickest drinks to make, so I figure not annoying. I did feel awful though and almost didn't use my numbers at all... I went to another store (I usually just go to mine on my days off if I want a drink) during the preparations for my friend's wedding and a couple people in her family wanted drinks... 2 of them were frappuccinos and then an iced tea and my drink. So I kind of felt like a jerk... but then I was waiting there and the girl at the window was exceptionally rude right off the bat and I got frustrated with her so I used my numbers anyway lol. That's one thing I don't have tolerance for at any store, if I have to smile and pretend like I like my job ALL the time instead of just the occasional time when we're having fun and things are going smoothly and no one is treating me like a jerk then I think all partners should have to. I wasn't a jerk back to this girl but I decided I didn't care if she thought I was an ****hole for using partner numbers on fraps.

same. I never order a vivanno or if I do as a partner bev I just make it myself. I feel like other baristas don't have the same respect though, partner bevs are usually the worst drinks to make.

What I hate are partners who let you know up front that "I work for Starbucks, so I *know* how my drink is supposed to be made." Actually, most of the time it's "I *used* to work for Starbucks."

Once I ordered a frappuccino at another store and I caught a little attitude from the register partner. I was like "**** y'all, I work down the street from a middle school, I know what it's like. Now give me my PMS nourishment and stfu."

I never order frappuchinos, smoothies, or a pour-over. If I'm in the mood for a hot coffee and the store I go to isn't brewing veranda that day, I get something else. Usually I'll get an iced white mocha or a sweetened black tea. I'm always super respectful and if at all possible, I tip.
But it has been my experience that some of the worst customers are partners and ex-partners.
I was working as a borrowed partner at a store once and they had me on bar, but I wasn't quite used to the way their store was set up so I was taking a bit of time. And a customer came up and she had probably one of the most complicated drinks I have ever made. There was a newbie on the register and she was flustered taking the order (which took so long that it caused a line out the door). She wanted an iced coffee with an insane number of pumps of various syrups, then she wanted it blended... with caramel drizzle etc. I accidentally messed something up and she threw a fit and asked me to remake it and I got the line "I'm a partner at another store. I don't know why this drink is so difficult for you."
When I get a partner who's a ****, gloves come off. I have to be nice to customers.... but if you're a partner and you KNOW what it's like behind that bar and you're still rude and inconsiderate? Screw you! I dumped out her drink gave her an iced americano (decaf) with the flavors she wanted and told her that if she wanted it blended, she would need to go back through the line and pay for a frappuchino and that I had other customers to deal with.

I get a vivanno as my partner beverage when working, but I make it myself and drink it as brunch. ^_^
Other stores I usually just get a normal hot chocolate

you win, lavieboheme.
there's this other partner from another store not too far from ours who would come in, treat my coworkers (who had worked as BPs at her store before) like shxt, and then get some ridiculous iced coffee with white mocha in it or something. it actually wasn't that complicated, but for the life of her she couldn't understand that saying "venti iced coffee and white mocha" didn't translate to us that she wanted white mocha in her iced coffee but rather that she wanted a white mocha in addition to her iced coffee, and got pisxed and nasty with us when we thought she wanted two drinks. hadn't even rung her up or charged her yet, just asked what size she wanted the white mocha. then she came in and did it AGAIN. and got mad AGAIN. apparently she's awful even to the partners at her own store. bitxh deserves to be fired.
on the opposite side, i've met a fair amount of partners who are incredibly nice and respectful, and those ones always leave the best tips. i always tip if i have change on me, but i usually pay with my phone nowadays and feel like i'm getting in the way if i'm digging around for money in my bag.

Well, there should not be a reason to be too sensitive here: if we can serve customers those funky drinks why not for our partners. I would NOT 'decaf' a partner JUST because he/she orders a Frappuccino rather than 'simpler drink' unless of course partner is being an a**hole like a disgustomer....

I would never order a overly modified drink at another store. I only make them behind bar when I'm feeling inventive. Usually I just drink iced coffee unsweet with no ice or a full strength iced unsweet green tea. The people with the overly modified drinks seem extremely pathetic to me. Cries for attention. How sad! :)

I went to another starbucks with my bf today to get him a heavy coffee tumbler and my weekly markout.... We were waiting for his iced latte and he was hearing the other orders:
"iced grande three pump mocha caramel mocha frappuccino"
"Decaf tall upside down caramel macchiato"
"Iced venti four pump mocha two pump vanilla soy latte"ETC. He looked at me and said "jesus. Really?"
"Honeybear, you have NO IDEA!"

Just like the title of the thread says: "Does anybody not order a certain drink out of respect for your fellow barista?" I draw the line at custom frappuccinos. Unless the partner tips, it's getting decaf espresso shots instead of frapproast. :P

on the other hand, i got a cold shoulder from the baristas at a Starbucks near Grand Central Station after i ordered an iced double tall no whip mocha. :(
i even got it iced so they wouldn't have to steam anything!
Posted 1 year ago # -
@Allison: An iced double tall no-whip mocha? I would personally partner beverage your drink and then make it myself. Come visit my store more often. We may be quirky but we don't screw up drinks.

@drysharpie
lol, we need to develop some kind of secret handshake/IHS gang sign so we can all recognize each other, since Allison isn't even my real name.

As a side question, how long did it take before you got your partner card in the mail? My temp paper version is getting wrecked. And I get so annoyed at partners from other stores ordering complicated drinks. Many drawing lines on their cup to show is where to fill this ingredient to or this much milk, syrup to this line... etc. If its complicated, make it yourself. Oh, you're in plain clothes? Then order something more civil.

man f that if i want a frappuccino i'll order one
but only if it's not busy. & i seldom get one.
typically i stick to BTL or iced raspberry nonfat milk. i get a semi nightmarish vivanno when it's dead.blended monstrosity or not partners go through a lot of crap from gross customers of the underworld. they can have their beverage made to how they like it.
unless they're rude.

I think they send partner cards at about 6 months.
I don't mind partners ordering anything they want as long as they're nice about it. So -- pretty much like any other customer. Don't come through DT, rattle off your heavily modified order superfast, and go "oh, yeah...I have a partner number" like you almost forgot. Be nice, plz.

@Allison what if i told you my name really is JavaChap....
in other news, you, me, & DS gotta chill.

When I go to the bux on my day off, I get a frapp sometimes. Why not? They'd probably order one too if they came to see me. Sometimes I get a hot chocolate. I loved the SCHC a lot.
I've had partners come and tell me they have numbers. I feel bad when I tell them we don't participate but they are usually very nice and understanding.
I have noticed that some baristas out there are so rude even if I'm nice. Though I just came back from Orlando, and when I went to a bux close by, the barista was super nice. Even though she was working alone.

Iced venti unsweetened. The only other store I go into is run by my boss' fiancee, and I've worked there a few times so they never even bother ringing me up. The downside to this is that they'll always ask me to check the condiment bar for them (which I do because I'M SUCH A SWELL FELLA!)

I feel like partners in general bust their butts when they're working, so they can order whatever their hearts desire on their day off. Unless I know you as a lazy barista, in which case I will frap with your drink, because being a lazy barista ain't cool, man. I don't mind super-modified drink orders from baristas (or customers) as long as they can order it clearly and know what they're getting. If they tip then their drink is on the house next time. I don't go in to Starbucks much on my days off, and even more rarely at stores besides my own, but it seems like recently whenever I have I've gotten new partners on the register, so I have to explain my drink (BT, V+H instead of CL, soy instead of water) and even coach them on where the POS buttons are sometimes.
