If I have to hear "Everybody Knows" from his lips ever again... it will be too soon.

THAT and Sinatra--sometimes I want to cry! Can we choose bamboo shoots under the fingernails instead?!?
Those A-holes in the Hear Music Dept. don't deserve their jobs!Posted 4 years ago # -
Darkroast: TOTALLY. Sometimes I hear songs while at work and I think, "I'm pretty sure this is the worst song I've ever heard." ...'til the next one comes on. And I wonder who the hell thought this music was good? Totally obscure half-talking sounds-like-a-dying-cat "singing" aren't what makes you "cool" or "totally into the scene". It makes me think your taste in music sucks, therefore YOU suck :P

Tell it how it is, Blacksheep! When I go into a traditional cafe, I don't hear dying cats over trance music---i hear COOL music! Radiohead was cool, but you can only play it so much before losing it. Why can't partners (the real working ones) pick some non-crappy tunes?

Because we might offend SoccerMom Nancy or Old Man Billings in the process.

I have spent too long working in place that play bad music, I just don't hear it anymore. Or it has to be very very bad to make me notice. Though don't you love that amazing sound of silence when the stereo gets turned off at closing time???

We keep ours turned down so that the customers in the cafe can hear about it if they concentrate, but everyone behind the bar can't. In the back room we have a CD-player that partners can bring in their own music for. I kept a CD of 8-bit Christmas music random looping for an 8-hour shift the other day. My co-workers seemed to be in a better mood than usual.

we finally got our Christmas cd today, and it's gotta be 5 songs in 30 different variations :/
Sort of puts me in a better mood though, some past songs were pretty bad
One sticks out in my head where I kept on thinking that the woman was singing something about asbestosPosted 4 years ago # -
I lived with the same twenty or so songs looping every day for three months. Then the stereo broke, and our manager doesn't care enough to get it fixed! It's nice not having to listen to the same Johnny Cash song 3 times in a day, then have a customer come in and ask "where can I get this CD, the music here is so nice!"

Yeah, if turning the music off isn't possible, then turning it down so far you have to concentrate to hear it is the next best option. We never, or hardly ever, get new music. That fact, and the repetitive nature of the work itslef make the sbux experience into the GROUNDHOG DAY experience. It's just complete dung.

Perfectionist: We get that too. One time I told a lady, "You could get a job here and you'd get to hear it every single day." She just laughed while I cried on the inside.

it'll only get worse when they start xmas music.... which they have...

Is it the same music the world over by the way? I know loads of you are in america. just wondering. we started the christmas CD beginning of november and i'm sick of George Michael's "Last Christmas". Always sticks out to me.Do you have the same CD?

You what really bothered me when i was with sbux? I dont celebrate x-mas yet i had to listen to the music all day long. When a company "embraces diverity as an essential component to the way we do business" yet plays songs about god, jesus, angles, etc it's obvious which holiday sbux backs.

Today I had this lady in DT ask me, "What are your guys' Christmas drinks?", to which I said the three, you all know. And then she has the balls to ask me rudely, "What are your guys' Hanukkah and Kwanzaa drinks? Not everyone celebrates Christmas, you know." Ohmygod. "Technically they're called HOLIDAY drinks, lady." DECAF!
P.S. I HATE Christmas music too! 'Tis the season, bitches.

all you guys gotta do is get an ipod hookup and attach it to the black stereo box, it's pretty easy. it's great for opening and closing, and if you feel like being bad, during store hours hah. once i got away with it for probably half a year before someone noticed it wasn't real starbucks music.

That folksy, whiny crap has got to go too.

And Sinatra!

@DarkRoast We had a whole Sinatra CD at the dress shop I used to work at! But there we were allowed to bring in our own music so long as it wasn't too heavy/techno etc. Much Dido, Jack Johnson though i did have Dire Straits and Eric Clapton for a while! Eric was my first choice for weekends coz it kept the guys happy while their wives diod nice things towards my sales targets, grin.

I'm just happy the holidays are over. If I hear the little drummer boy one more time I'm going to pa rum pum pum pum somebody's face. What was with the 50 different versions of the same 5 songs?

sickofitall- YES! Thank you.
Also, there is this one jazz medly that doesnt even have any type of melody or symphonic blend whatsoever! I dont know which one it is since I never bother to look, I just cringe at it. It literally sounds like a loud drunk orchestra dry **** a music stand.
