So I've applied to about three different Starbucks' by my house on the 13th (on a Wednesday), and since you guys are (hopefully) SBUX employees, I'm hoping you guys could help me figure out read the signals and everything that the SM's threw off, it seemed like they did like me when I went to talk to them and everything, but I just want to make sure with you guys. There's more information after I recollect what happened, I just want to put this out before I forget all the details. This is also kind of lengthy, so beware of that.
Okay, so the fist time I followed-up, I called them and they basically told me that they were actually going over applications that week up to Thursday, but only one told me she'd be actually calling. I know there's not much to by on that.
The second time I followed-up, in person this time, I wore a dress shirt, a tie, slacks, and nice leather dress hoes armed with three copies of a resume I've previously made. I'm really looking good here, atleast I think I do, and I wanted to impress them with that, both looking good and the fact that I have a resume.
Just so I don't have to explain this every time, when I got there, I politely asked for the SM and when I got to talk to him/her, I told them I had applied on the 13th and I had also previously, and that I was very excited to see what decision they've made, all've which said "oh well actually I'm looking at them today/this week" generally.
So I got to the 1st/3rd one, manager isn't there, and the most senior looking person there tells me to come back the next morning because who's the SM is on vacation, but hold the resume for the SM when they get back.
Go to the next one, it's slightly busier, but the SM is willing come over to chat, he mentions the fact that he's actually supposed to be looking at applications the next day, he looks really enthusiastic to talk, asks how my day was, he looks over the resume, gets to the back, asks me if I want to be a Marine Corps Officer in the future (i put that as a goal on my application), I say "yes, sir, right after college", we make small talk about my family, being in the marines, him being a Marine Corporal, he asks me if I'm a Junior in High School and if I play football, I say yes to both, and he asks where/how/when I wanna go to college I tell him A&M for the Corps of Cadets, by working and using HazelWood (a TX act) to pay for it, and after summer break. Finally he gets the final question, how long do you plan on holding down a job, I say for as long as I possibly can. After this, still looking excited to talk to me, says he's going to look at it tomorrow and will probably call me, thanks me for coming in person to follow-up, and keeps the resume.
So I go back to the 1st/3rd one, actually the 3rd one first, because I knew his schedule. So I go there, ask for the SM, they look around, some lady goes into a back room, goes in/back out a few times, and then she suddenly comes to talk to me, kind of caught off guard for a moment because I'm confused, she says me to tell her about myself, and before I can say anything she suddenly changes the question to, "so have you had any job experience?" I say yes, and I explain what I had to do what the role was and we talk about it and her friends for a few minutes, and then the actual SM himself comes out with a pen/paper, he's friendly, asks me what my story is, and I told him what I said above, what I've done in last the week or so and why I'm here, and he asks me if I'm in High School, I say I'm a junior, and he asks me what kind of stuff I do in school, I told him I played Football, and in off-season I did TMAD, theater, and some key club (which i also wasn't able to stay in key club). He's all that stuff down on a pad, along with he has my name/number, and says thanks for coming in and says when he has a stack of them and he'll keep an out for mine, and will probably call me if I fit.
On the way to the other one, I also go to the one I went to yesterday with the cool SM, and I go get my grande Misto, and ask for him (politely), and a (ASM?) comes up and asks me what I need, tell her I was just gonna ask about my app (again), and she says he's busy in a meeting, gets my name/number, and says that the meeting is the reason he hasn't been able to see the apps yet, hopefully he'll look it at within the week though, and says she'll give the info to him when he's done. I get my misto and we thanks each other and leave.
I get the the first one originally, and lady SM is there too, but can't talk because she's in a meeting about a would-be new District Manager soon, which will talk about a week. She also explains that sometime within the week, or a little after, I'll figure out if I'm supposed to be interviewed or not, but I probably will because there's 4 Barista positions open at that location, but says I might have a hard time getting hired because of reasons I'll explain below, I thank her and I leave.
Here's some background information: I'm 16, I'm a Junior in HS, I've had one seasonal job at 14 at TRF (Texas Renaissance Festival) in 2010, and the Civil Air Patrol (USAF Volunteer Cadet Program thing), which I've been in from 05-13-08 to june of 2010. Both jobs are demanding, require the ability to take complicated commands/execute them, heavy lifting, communication skills, stressfull thinking, and are very customer service intensive. I have a 4.0 GPA while playing football, theater, and other clubs. I also plan on going to college and becoming a marine officer. On the App I hope I've made it clear that I'm flexible, because I've put down 8 AM-12PM availability everyday, and willing to work whenever I need to (like holidays).
Holy hell, you actually made it this far! Sorry about this essay of a OP I've made you guys read, but I'm really wanting this job for several reasons, and even though it seemed like I did good talking to these guys/girls, I just wanted to get your opinions about how I did since you're more familiar with SM's than I am, and I also wanted to know how likely it would be to get noticed and interviewed at least, so I didn't any leave any details out. And you guys are awesome, btw.
