I was reading on starbucksgossip.com about the new drinks that will be starting in January, and Sbux is going to discontinue the melon syrup! Nooo! I freaking love the melon syrup, that's what I always get in my passion tea lemonade. Ugh. And a lot of our customers use the melon syrup in replace of other syrups. There not gonna like this, and neither am I. =(

I just read the promo binder and it said the only thing changing on the green tea latte was that we are steaming the matcha in with the milk??

@anniversaryblend: Dumbest idea ever. And isn't that "against standards"?! Like, when we had the stupid iced Cappuccinos, mixing cold and steamed milk was technically against standards, too.

Guess you will be using classic syrup like we do here. Not sure about putting the powder into the milk to steam it in though - another thing to go lumpy!

What's with this company?? They get a steady flow of customers from a drink or flavor and then they decide to change what's working for pretty much no reason other than they get bored. Is everyone who makes theses decisions upstairs coke-headed, hyperactive sadists with ADD?? Their ideas keep getting worse!

I'm with SCSHC too... I'm actually glad that we have one less syrup, and can tell customers 'no' for reasons other than "We didn't order enough." I'm sick of saying 'yes' all the time....Time to say 'no!!!' Haha.

I love the melon syrup too. I'm sadden that their discontinuing it. I use it for teas and......Teas! It just taste way better than classic and it's a great substitute in my opinion. I kind of had an odd feeling that melon was going away at one point though. Steaming matcha with the milk from what I heard is an old school way of making a GRTL.

Actually, steaming the matcha with the milk is better. The matcha blends completely into the milk, making a creamy, velvety consistence. I didn't think I would like it, but actually, it makes a better drink. However, it does taste better with the melon, in my opinion. The classic is a somewhat bland addition to the beverage.
When they came out with matcha, I didn't think it would stick around. It's the most obnoxious substance I have to deal with! Switching over the containers everyday results in a choking green cloud that stains my skin. Yuk. But, I do enjoy the taste better now when we steam in into the milk.

Ugh just the thought of snot green steam wands makes my stomach turn! The SHC is nasty enough but somehow coz of the colour green tea/matcha seems even worse!

I really like green tea lattes, and I will definitely miss melon syrup. But, for my personal drinks, I won't be using classic. I'll just leave it unsweetened - matcha is sweet enough! - or add raw sugar or something. Now our only fruity syrup will be JR, which SUCKS, by itself or in the mochas. Nothing like a red food coloring overload.
Sometimes I fantasize that Starbucks will switch to using Monin and/or Ghirardelli (sp?) syrups, and we will regress from a Coffee Mart back to a real-deal coffee shop.
