Do you get mad if I order two drinks as separate transactions to get the extra star?

Yes. It's cheating the system.
Posted 10 months ago # -
Corporate doesn't like it either.
They've considered changing around the way the rewards system works just because of customers cheating.

Personally, I do not mind. If there is a huge line and you have six items, that can be obnoxious. Also, I appreciate it when people are cool about asking to ring things up separately. Don't explain why. We know why, and if you explain, other people may hear. Then everyone will expect this. Next thing you know there will be dogs and cats living together—mass hysteria ;-)

If you're an enthusiast, it shouldn't take you too long to work up to the gold card. :D But to answer your question, yes, it annoys the hell out of us and the customers behind you in line are going to glare daggers at you. It's not worth wasting our time and theirs. Plus coperate has given us the go-ahead to just tell you no.
Just chill, you'll get there eventually. No sense aggravating other people over it, it's not that important.

It annoys me simply because people are usually annoying about it. Also, Starbucks is very generous with its FREE rewards system, you are essentially saying you deserve more than what starbucks already offers to its loyal customers. It creates more work for us because now we are spending more time at the register marking each individual drink, putting each drink in the system and them ringing it up. One. At. A. Time. Also there's probably a line forming behind you. If I was the customer behind you I'd be upset. Which of course is another thing we have to deal with. However, of you wanna ring two black coffees separately that's a different story. Use discretion. I have a customer who comes and orders 5 drinks and half our pastries and is rude on top of all of that. And another one who orders two tall iced lattes in Venti cups, pastries, wants reciepts for every transaction, and doesn't tip. And she is also rude about it. Things get sticky when you take advantage of the system. I wouldn't do it.

Double post sorry :(

You really shouldn't do it. That isn't what the rewards system is set up for, but personally I think starbucks should make it per drink and not per transaction (but now I'm imagining everyone ordering two talls 'but just put it in the same cup/)
since I do see this as a partial starbucks flaw I will say this:
-Don't be that regular that does it every time. If you know you need 1 more star or something, doing it once is far less frustrating then deliberately cheating. every.time.
-Don't announce it to the world.
-Don't do it if there is a line.
-Don't do it if you are buy more than 2 drinks (unless you are only splitting in 2)
-DONT DONT DONT do this on DT, i will probably forget. And above all else: if the barista says they cannot do it, ACCEPT IT AND WALK AWAY.
Follow these and you should avoid unnecessary tampering with your drink ;)

@ coolbeans, nice Bill Murray quote. :)
Posted 10 months ago # -
I don't mind ringing them up as separate transactions as long as:
- you give me a heads up
- you're nice
- (ideally) you tipIs this cheating the system? Yes. Do it. Stick it to the man. Just don't do it if there's a long line.
Posted 10 months ago # -
I hate it but only because I DESPISE being told one thing and then expected to do another. While I was trained on register, my SM drilled into my head that I couldn't ring items up separately just to accumulate stars. But as soon as someone asks, I have to JUST SAY YES, so **** my training. Why the hell even have rules if a customer's whim can send them out the window?
...but yeah I'll do it if I like you and you're nice about it and don't ask like it's expected.
Posted 10 months ago # -
Nope. I won't do it. It brings down my average ticket per transaction, which is being tracked by my SM.
Posted 10 months ago # -
just say yes = only when it makes good business sense. This one is tricky because the customers are likely frequent ones if they possess gold cards, but are also draining resources and consuming more product because of the free drink coupons they redeem so often. My verdict? Bad business decision. Say no when necessary.
Posted 10 months ago # -
I hate it, abso-fu-king-lotely hate it...but my manager allows it because it keeps regular customer coming (according to her). But I think it is system flaw, and ridiculous because it is simply depended on number of transactions rather than amount spent, which I think would be better for us baristas...I wish Howard could change it to number of stars earned by the amount spent...so spend $100, get 100 point=free drink [or better yet $1000=1000 points=free drink = evil smile]
Posted 10 months ago # -
I don't like doing it. The entitled attitude behind it bothers the hell out of me, and the way some customers act so smug about it, as if they themselves came up with the idea all on their own. And I hate that, even though I know it's wrong, I have to do it anyway.
Posted 10 months ago # -
If you tell me what you're doing, you get a big fat giant no. Then I reference you to Starbucks policy, and their big fat giant no. See MyStarbucksIdea.com for more details.
Posted 10 months ago # -
I dont care if you do that so long as there is NO line behind you. Its kinda stupid system that sbux set up and 15 trans can really be spending a lot $ to get one free drink, might get lost in the mail anyways
Posted 10 months ago # -
I had one guy ask me this, who only had the app on his phone to pay... and we don't have a scanner, so I have to read it, and type this sh-t in manually all day. Anyway, so this guy asks me if I can ring all of his multiple items up separately. I laughed SO LOUD! :D "Nope!"
Posted 10 months ago # -
@Unsweetened - I can't believe you guys don't have a scanner. At every store that I've worked at, they had one. At those stores, partners were not allowed to manually enter in ANY cards because of all the scams up and down the west coast. They have all lost at least a thousand dollars each from it. We have to ask for another form of payment.
Posted 10 months ago # -
We don't have the scanner either. Have to manually type in eeeevery number. As soon as I see someone pull out their iPhone I prepare my "OH CAN YOU READ THAT REALLY LONG NUMBER TO ME? THANKS" speech.
What's worse is that apparently we absolutely will NEVER get one, either. So there's no hope.Posted 10 months ago # -
I walked into a store whose scanners were down the other day. I was listening to music on my iphone and the barista damn near strangled me with my own earbuds, trying to read my Starbucks card numbers. She could have just asked, you know?
Posted 10 months ago # -
No scanner? The horror! Seriously, that would be terrible.
Also, I don't really care if someone splits their order & it's two things. More than that is ridiculous. And in all cases a line inevitably forms behind this ****, which is always annoying.
Posted 10 months ago # -
No, no scanners, and no hope for any either. I'm in a licensed store and we have our own POS.
Some of my coworkers will ask customers to read the numbers for them, but my hearing sucks, and it's always loud. Plus customers don't tend to take breaths between numbers and I can't type that fast on our ghetto screens. :/ I don't like touching customer's grubby phones, but I find it the lesser of two evils. Less talk, more good.
On a related note, many of our registers have had it and need replacing... a lot won't even swipe sbux cards and I have to type numbers in all mothereffing day. My wrist and hand are sore... so fkuc no I won't ring things up separately. :)

Holy **** a guy did this to me today! He had four drink orders & wanted them all split. AND he already had a line to the door behind him. AND he didn't tip. Oh how I wish I would have been on bar so I could decaf his brains out.
