i don't know how your friend could possibly sell you a mastrena as it's purely exclusive to Starbucks stores. Might want to avoid the purchase as they could come after him, and by extension, you, for buying it.

what you think is fair value for a legit used mastrena machine?

lol as he said, it is only proved to starbucks and might be stolen. Starbucks however does plan to release a home "edition" by the end of the year

hmm guess i will stay away from the offer

The utilities bills to run a full commercial Mastrena must be atrocious. To even operate one in the home, you'd have to not only have a large enough, sturdy counter but at the very least the plumbing know-how to pipe it into a drain and pipe its own consistent waterflow. It could be done, but it would be a huge pain in the ****- and it's also a finicky machine. Treated right it's a workhorse like none other (it's designed to steam for twenty-four hours straight), but mistreated and it's just a $30,000 pile of crap.
That being said, buy a consumer espresso machine.

There is a 95% chance that this is stolen property. I do not know of any Mastrenas outside of Starbucks ownership.
If you go through with the sale, and the police trace the Mastrena espresso machine back to you, you would be charged with possession of stolen property. At the very minimum, it's a class A misdemeanor in most states, punishable by up to 1 year in addition to fines and forfeiture of stolen property.

Even if by some miracle it's not stolen, it won't work. When they take out old machines, they have to take the chip that's inside of them out and send it in to corporate, thereby rending the machine inoperable, and just a giant hunk of metal. Found that out when they took our Verismos away. =)

Added to everything mentioned above, if you ever try to get the Mastrena SERVICED by a repair person, they will check the serial number and probably figure out that it's stolen.

Hi actual tech here. I know this is resurrecting an old thread but I couldn't help myself. Mastrenas don't cost 30k, based on adding all the parts from my stock list it's 13k, but Sbux doesn't buy them disassembled therefore its probably less than that. There is no magical unique chip that gets taken out upon decommissioning of the bar, some are refurbished, some are disposed of and some are rotting in the warehouse. Generally, they rarely get decommissioned.
I don't think it's possible to get a mastrena since they are still unique to Sbux and they don't sell them period. It is very possible to get Verismo though. However, steer away from verismo. Only vendor carrying parts for them is bunn and they charge a small fortune for verismo parts. It's either that or ordering them directly from manufacturer in Swiss. It's not expensive to keep mastrena operable, it's a 208V machine nothing special about it. Used verismos should be free since parts are impossible to find at a normal price altough a lot of parts are interchangeable with mastrena, after all mastrena is just an updated verismo. But you can't get mastrena parts ever unless you know actual Sbux tech.Posted 1 month ago # -
