so our store has kinda been suffering lately- our manager is leaving because he can't handle everything, we've been short on people because everyone's calling out, etc. it just sucks ATM. Well one of our partners just put his 2 weeks in. Well, even so, he's called out twice and today called to say he found a new job and is quitting. Like, really? You can't finish out your one week before vacation? It's even crappier because he's had to pick up shifts for quitters before, so why would he do the same to us? Our shift, who was actually friends with him, cussed him out and hung up on him when he called out. Like, what the hell?

Uh, this is a job, and they don't owe you anything.
Find some way to burn off steam.

I know how you feel. Lately, I've been closing A LOT and people have been calling out on me left and right. It's not my business if someone calls out. I can not be angry with them as I have no idea why they are doing it. Your problem should be with management. If a barista calls out and your shift was unable to find coverage, ultimately it is up to them to come in and cover for them. It all comes with the title of "manager."

^this. This is what my manager doesn't do, she actually told me one morning that I could run the morning rush on 3 part coverage because someone was looking like they were going to be a no call no show - it was an hour after this girl's shift was supposed to start and I had been calling her and I had called my SM to let her know what was going on and have her call the girl so I could actually be on the floor at work and we weren't getting an answer. She goes, well, I am busy today so you're just going to have to run your rush on 3 part coverage and then the afternoon on 2 part coverage (don't ask me why she hadn't scheduled our usual 5 part coverage in the morning already...). She has never come in to cover a shift for anyone, she expects us to cover them all.

@Ryueness: Yes, it's a job. And there's a little thing called work ethic. Starbucks is actually continuing to make money (unused labor hours? Hello, Profit!) while **** already over-worked partners.
@Nonfatwithwhip: That sucks. I'm sorry, but just explain to your manager that sales / customer voice / QASA are going to suffer as the partners do. Hopefully she'll screw you over a little less.

i guess i should have explained the story a little better! sorry! it was late and i was tired from closing. He wants to do music and go to college. He had gotten a job doing music repairs, so he's moving on from the bux. Which I get, but he literally had like 4 shifts left. It's more of a moral issue I guess, since he's been a reliable and hard worker and he's friends with most of us. It's just kind of strange he ditched last second and left us hanging.

I've been there before myself. 2 person closes and lots of frustration because some coworkers decide that taking the day off trumps getting paid.
I left on short notice. I had a pending job offer, but this was years in the making and everyone knew.

We close with two people every day. Sucks.
