omg nooooooooo. awfullllll!!! and I don't want to even think of how it would work with what's out of stock... I know that I work with several people who will sell the last of a pastry in the case and not bother to check if we have more to restock with or if we're completely out, they just wait till someone else orders it and then the rest of us find out that we're out of it... can you imagine if we had to update all that stuff online? we'd get so many people paying for pastries that were out of stock, plus all the people who have fluid concepts of time, so they'd come in to get their stuff and be all, oh why is my frappuccino melted? well, maybe because you said you'd be here 15 minutes ago... HORRIBLE IDEA.
lol this won't work. they did this in a test market a year or two (advanced ordering) and it failed spectacularly. they also tried a "brewed coffee only" line during morning rush in the same test market and it bombed as well, because people kept ordering modifiers/pastries and it made the lines worse.
when they say "early stages of review" they mean, "shut the eff up about it, we'll pretend to work on it for another four years".
Um, yeah, that's an aweful idea. Ideas like that will just give self righteous assclowns another reason to complain about how we f'd up their drink >:(
Way back in the day before text messaging and cell phones, Starbucks tested a program where you call a certain phone number linked to specific stores and placed an order. You would use a number corresponding with a certain drink. Needless to say, it was a failure and only lasted a couple of months. Let's hope if they test this that it fails too...
I go on mystarbucksidea.com a couple times a week and vote down all the stupid ideas (ok...maybe all ideas...). Some of the ideas are quite frankly just stupid.
This wouldn't be an issue if EVERYTHING was automated and a disclaimer was posted. It might actually save us time from waiting on folks.
I'm too lazy to write out the details. I'll be damned if I write it out for free and someone steals it.
I remember hearing about this being tested in Chicago which must be what Allison is saying too. I didnt know how it went. It was email ordering tested in Chicago. Maybe they are testing it again somewhere?
Hey i just saw it's been in the news that Sbux invested $25 million in Square and then contracted with them. This would really make this even more possible. Could be coming. Sbux jjust has money to toss around like a bakery, evo fresh, and square
Haha, lovely. It could never be in my stores, given our location but... I work in a store that typically has a rush for 6+ hours solid in the morning. And I can only imagine how wonderful that would be to ALSO be getting orders from online or mobile customers. Yeah, no problem! We'll just put this 12 drink order for Steve and all his coworkers right between Bob's latte and Mary's iced tea. Sorry Mary, Steve just put his order in, so.... there's going to be like a 15 minute wait. Oh, and what's this clusterfuck happening at the handoff? The line keeps moving, but... where are the drinks?? Sorry everyone! It was Steve! He needs his 12 frappuccinos made!
Means one of two things, or both: People really are getting lazy, or people are just rushing around too much nowadays. Jesus **** Christ. Why must people make things so complicated?!

Bump. There you go.
I find this stuff to be a little humorous. As a society do we really need an app that allows us to order a coffee while we are on the go? I think I would eat a bullet if my life became so busy that waiting 15 minutes in line to get a drink would ruin my day.
Who is to blame? Every person that owns a smart phone who does not need it. It has created a false demand for something that is lining the pockets of large corporations and their shareholders.
If you have a smart phone and use it to update FB and take duckface pictures.......... just saying.

OH HALE NO.
I wills say, my store is right next to a hospital. Sometimes doctors will call so their drink will be ready right when they get there.
I bet 98% of the people that would partake in this would be doing it solely out of laziness.
I hate the app, anyway.
You want to use your Sbux gold card. You can either 1. Hand me your card. I swipe it and you're on your way or 2. You fiddle around with your phone. I wonder if you're texting or trying to pull up the app. You try to scan the card yourself before I hit the "Starbucks Card" button and you have to do it again. Then you wave your phone around in front of the scanner, trying to get it to scan, all the while complaining about how it never works.
THEN WHY ARE YOU USING IT AGAIN
I've only been a partner for a year. If that happened, I'd literally just quit the day. Not give two weeks.
In "real life", my actual career is in technology, and I'm puzzled by the general population's reaction to Square. As far as I know, most customers are responding to the announcement with, "BUT WHEN ARE YOU GETTING IT?!"
1) Don't pretend like you knew what Square was before the announcement.
2) Don't pretend you'll actually rush out and use Square after the announcement.
3) Don't pretend like you care what the answers are when you ask me inane questions about Square.
Square's been out for a while, but no one acknowledged it until Starbucks invested money in it, and now everyone is trying to grill us wondering why we don't have it yet. Honestly.
I saw a wsj article where i think it said square would be in all stores by holiday
Oh hell no, I work in a mall store (kiosk no less) this would be almost impossible to implement for us (as we would have nowhere to put the necessary equipment to facilitate mobile ordering, not to mention that our lines are consistently 10 people long at all times and everybody would get pissy that somebody who called ahead got their drink first.
Additionally, we sell so much food so quickly there would be no way to keep the ordering system updated with what we have.
I made an account just so I could thumbs down that idea. (and many more)
That entire myidea site raises my blood pressure. Everyone wants frappuccino happy hour daily.
Allison, I've used Square for at least a year. But you're right that most people are unaware of it. I think they should've worked with PayPal honestly and you can pay with your smartphone like they do with their gold cards. PayPal is much more popular and reliable.
I have used Square for my outside business for a year and a half. It works pretty well. But Starbucks is NOT the place for it. Can you say cluster ****?
