Hey everyone! I just signed up because I need some advice. In all honesty--and especially having read horror stories on here--my Starbucks isn't that bad. It's actually pretty good. Good coworkers besides minor annoyance, decent management beyond minor annoyance, and great customers for the most part! But I hate it. So. Much. I worked at a licence store for almost six years and then came to a real Starbucks only about 2 or 3 months ago, but I just can't take food service or retail anymore. I have an interview tomorrow for a different line of work (more or less the same money) but I don't know how to quit since people are decent here and my reason is, well, rather dramatic--especially because I haven't even been there that long! How should I approach quitting an alright job so soon without looking like an a**hole?
Quitting advice?

Turn it into a good opportunity. You have been in retail for a long time and you have this great opportunity to try something new. You appreciate everything they've done for you but it's time for you to move on. If you spin it into something positive, it sounds better :-)

Give lots of notice, be positive about your experience and just be honest. Say another job has arisen, that is more towards what you want to pursue in the future.
I know someone who did the same thing. An opportunity came up and she took it. Trust me you won't be the manager's first person to do it.
I think another important thing is that when your partners gossip (if they do, mine surprisingly haven't, but my situation is different), just be quick about it. The situation kinda sucks for them, but if they are nice and you have a good relationship there shouldn't be much to hold you on. If they ask all you need to say is a cool job presented itself.

You don't have to tell anyone why you're leaving. Especially don't tell them WHERE you are working. Like the guys above saying "I have found a new opportunity" is more than enough.
You don't have to tell your manager anything other than your last day. It's a personal reason and they don't need it for ANYTHING.

Tell them that they offered you more money than what Shitebux can offer, when I do jobs for my career job and I ask for time off, the manager questions me, I turn around and say, can you afford to pay me my union rate, which is along the lines of $50 an hour? No?! What a surprise....after a couple of those, she stopped asking.

You write a letter.
"insert store manger name here"
Thank you for giving me this opportunity to work with you for the past "insert time here". My last day at "insert name of business here" will be in "insert time in the future of two weeks here"
Sincerely "insert name here"
That will be 5 bucks please.
