Worked DTR today, and my coworker is the WORST about making drinks as they are ordered over the headset and never putting their stickers on them! We don't mark cups by hand unless the machine is broken or out of stickers.

Then he goes and sets all these unmarked cups on the drive thru area. No matter how much I remind him or nag him to use the stickers he only does about 15% of the time.

What is this so hard? Does he really want to have to remake drinks because we hand out the wrong thing? Or miss drinks because he is not pulling up the next sticker, and trying to do it all by memory?

Not to mention, I still care enough about the customers, that if they order multiple drinks in the same size, I would like them to be able to keep track of which drink is which!

Today, he left a sticker up (caramel frappacino), filled about 6 more orders, and then pulled off the caramel frap sticker when the 7th customer ordered one as well. Then he freaked out because the machine started printing out tons of stickers, and we only had one person on drive thru. He tried to blame it on the machine, but I called him out on it. Did it change anything? Nope.

He is transferring soon, thank god.

I really, really hate it when I'm barring and the DTR person just completely ignores that fact that they have to sticker the cups and set them at my bar in order for me to make the drinks. I have a SS who was working DTR one time who got all over my case about a customer being at the window and that they're drink wasn't completed. The problem was that I never received the drink; the sticker was still sitting in the machine.

I work DTR often, but DTR people can be exceptionally lazy sometimes. I've had times where I forget to sticker one cup, but that's an honest mistake that's probably happened to everyone at some point. It's the people who just refuse to do it or can't be bothered with it.

I'm confused. I work in a DT store and we sticker / mark our own cups. Why is that DTR's job? Why don't you just put the machine next to the bar area?

Yeah, in our store the stickers are nowhere near the DTR, it is supposed to be done by the DT bar person, and the machine is right next to the bar, right in front of where the cups are. It would be ridiculous for me to try to run over and sticker each cup while not letting customers sit at the window before greeting them/ringing the sale.

And why is it so hard for the bar person to grab the next sticker as they go through the cup queue???

At my store we only go down to one bar after about 12PM, but oddly the DTR (no DTE at night) has to sticker the cups and pass them over to whomever is barring. Must be different for each DT store.

If there is only one person on bar, and we start to get busy, I will definitely sticker the cups for them and put them in order... but not when I'm DTR and it is SUPER busy (we do more DT business than anything else) and I can't even step away from the window AND there is both a DT bar person and a cafe bar person.

We have stickers right by the bar- some bar partners prefer to sticker their own cups, some are okay if the float does it. DTR is a planted position and is not supposed to move during rush. My biggest pet peeve as the float is when someone is on bar and flat out yells at me for putting stickers on their cups. And yet they have a line of drinks a mile long and I'm trying to find the ONE sticker that is for a cafe drink so I can make it (we don't have a separate cafe bar and if we have a ton of drive drinks and only a couple cafe ones we'll try to prioritize those by having the float make them so the cafe customers don't have to wait behind the 10 drive drinks that happened to come in while everyone else was ordering brewed coffees in front of them). I just calmly explain what I'm doing and leave it at that. Also our sticker machine is screwy and so sometimes it spits the stickers out on the floor, or if a second drink comes through before you take the first sticker out it will try to shoot out and then the two stickers stick together- so if the bar partner is just simply moving really slowly (we have some partners who are slower than molasses on bar and refuse to take constructive criticism... yeah, fun) then all the stickers wind up stuck together or on the floor and drinks get passed over. Which is why I DO sticker cups if I see that a line of drinks is starting to build up. Partners who get super territorial over their bar space... yeah. I mean, I would NEVER just jump on bar and start making a drink, even if I'm "double barring" and making a cafe drink I ask, can I start this drink on your left bar, because I really hate when people just start making things for me when I'm on bar without explaining what they're doing. But... there's gotta be a happy medium in there.

I think stickers should really only apply to DT stores and that's it. I feel that actually writing out the cup still leaves that small, 'personal' mark that a sticker can't make up for.

Makes things seem less manufactured, you know?

I think our sticker machine has done a diservice to actually training new partners- anyone who started at my store after the sticker machine got there has NO IDEA how to mark a cup. It's in all those dumb books that you read on your first day at the Bux and after that you never use it again unless you're in a cafe store. My first drive thru store didn't have a sticker machine for the whole year I was there (they do now) and my current store got one about 6 months after I got there so I got used to barring and marking all the cups for myself off of the screen by the bar. So I was forced to learn the cup markings, which I have found useful when I need a drink made on the fly or a big order starts coming in in the cafe and I need to mark the cups so the bar partner can start the drinks. But anyone who is newer in my store, and I'm talking partners who have been there for more than a year now, have no clue what some of the markings are, apart from the obvious ones "L", "M", etc.

No, most of our partners, including me, don't really know how to mark cups. I could manage to read them but probably not mark them very quickly, since I started training at a "sticker" store. I WISH we marked cups tho, I think it would help new ppl learn the recipes much faster.

Except for the newest hires, the ppl on bar usually listen and start prepping cups/drinks as they are being ordered. That is why they often forget the stickers. But, OMG how hard is it to grab the sticker RIGHT BESIDE YOU and stick it on the cup??

Ive heard this argument/vent/complaint brought up a few times and it confuses me. Whenever Ive worked in DT the person who took the order and rang up the drink stickers the cup too...And if you arent taking DT orders, You mark the cup, by hand... it lets the person on bar know that the drink is staying in the cafe and not going to the window....

I think that the issue about /who/ stickers the cups depends on the store and where the sticker machine is located. At my store, we have a two bars in a |_|_| shape, with a sink separating the two and a sticker machine in the middle near the sink. In this case it's the DT Bar person that needs to pull the stickers, HOWEVER we have a second backup machine that's next to the expediter, so if the machine near the bar didn't work, I'd hope that it was the DT Order person that would sticker the cups.

There's my 2 cents.

I'm not fulling grasping this 'DT stickers the cups' thing, in our store the sticker machine is on the bar, which is about 30 feet from the DT window. I'd be doing laps if I had to sticker all the cups.
