I can't even begin to describe how much I loathe Starbucks. Allow me to begin by stating that I don't like flavoured coffees. I don't like fancy fruity sissy swirly milkshakes when I'm in the mood for coffee. I take my coffee black. And I love coffee. I recently had the misfortune of drinking "coffee" at Starbucks, since I was in the company of certain people who needed to have some fancy beverage of some kind that I could never pronounce properly. Not only was the coffee overly bitter (especially for a medium roast), but it tasted like the beans themselves had been broiled on the bathroom floor of a downtown public restroom. It wasn't suitable to drink black. But, being a stubborn male I persisted. Another coffee drinker friend of mine had put sugar in his coffee, to its detriment, since the sugar managed to further enhance the potency of whatever vile aromas some mad monstrous corporation had decided to call "coffee". What disturbs me the most is how an establishment that has a reputation for serving "coffee" and which appears to pride itself on its "coffee" can get away with serving that horrid concoction. I suppose it's because no one actually orders coffee at Starbucks. They all get sissy fruity swirly sugar milk shake drinks at the same price as a full sized meal. Luckily my university's campus downtown is surrounded by a myriad of coffee shops (most are mediocre but tolerable, however).

The other day, before cleaning my oven, I tried a little experiment. I scraped some of the black stuff off the bottom, ground it up, ran it through my coffee maker and - VOILA - a perfect Starbucks Morning Blend! Seriously, I went to a chromatography seminar yesterday (uneducated cretin that I am), and the hotel house coffee tasted just like Starbucks. I couldn't believe it. It seems that they have set a new standard for coffee quality in this country, and that's such a shame. I tried really hard to like Starbucks, since they have such a following, but it's so burnt and bitter, I don't see how anyone can stand it.

I went into a Starbucks for the first time about three months ago. Up until that point I had refused to go in out of principle because every time I looked through the window (I live in Japan, by the way) I would see a bunch of obnoxious-looking twenty and thirty-something white people with dreadlocks pontificating and drinking double-triple-frappy-cappy-frothy whatever coffee drinks. Maybe this is out of step with some of the people who really like coffee on this site, but when I have a coffee I like it to be a black coffee with no sugar. I don't like or need froth and sprinkles or any of that rubbish. Anyway, I went in Starbucks because my friends were going in their and I overheard the clueless conversation that the average Starbucks patron has. Maybe it's different in the States, where Starbucks is more popular, but in the UK and Japan they seem to be places where students and other stuck-up morons gather to fiddle with their lap-tops and have 'informed' conversations. I hate the decor in Starbucks. I hate the carefully-considered, committee-chosen colours, the neatly-wrapped, over-priced muffins and the endless varieties of what should be a simple drink for helping hangovers: coffee. Starbucks is even a stupid name. We only just got Starbucks in the UK in the last couple of years and it's sprung up like a fungus everywhere. People who go to Starbucks always say things like 'Shall we, like, go to Starbucks and GRAB a coffee?' or 'I really NEED or a coffee' because they are such energetic, busy young go-getters that they simply don't have the time to go into a coffee shop and BUY a coffee, which, like most people, they don't NEED. I NEED air and food. I don't NEED coffee. No-one NEEDS coffee. It's just fashionable to appear to have some sort of vice. These are the same people who smoke, even though they are really educated and they know it's bad for you, and try to look cool by saying 'Yeah, but I don't care. You die anyway, don't you?'. Yeah, well it will be really cool when you are in loads of pain in a hospital and the planet has been destroyed by big 'green' American companies so you could't even breathe the thin, contaminated air around you even if your lungs would let you. I hate the advertising for Starbucks. It's all like that McDonalds advertising where they use the colour green all the time so that people will think it's healthy and friendly. It's not. It's horrible and insipid and you are not an individual just because you buy into an advertising campaign which is, within the spectrum of ordinary mainstream ad design, considered to be radical and different. I hate fancy coffee. I hate Starbucks. I hate people who go there.

Poor McDonalds got a bad rap with the 'Super Size Me' movie, but that's nothing compared to the unheathy offerings at Starbucks. People wake up and smell the coffee......literally. The high fat content levels are just an 'irregular' heart beat away. Plus I take offense to their assumption that intelligent people need jargon on a coffee cup to spark meaningful conversations......give me a break! "The Way I see It" .......Starbucks needs to stick to what they know and continue to do it badly.

I have worked for starbucks for 2 years, in the beginning I really liked working there. I thought I was working for "something." Until I realized what a load of crap I was living. I am currently a supervisor, who recently stepped down due to a manager who gives "corrective action" forms for barista's not rinsing their milk pitchers right away. I don't think that this is the "Correct Action," especially after 3 of these lovely little things you get fired. It's a friggin milk pitcher. Can't we focus on real issues here. I feel that the corporate monster has micro managed every employee to insanity. My lovely manager sat me down at 4 am to have a "coaching conversation" about not supporting the "team." I support the team, she kills all morale with stupid write ups with no purpose. I have never worked for anyone who is so unreasonable, vicous, and scandalous, all disguised behind fake concern. This is ridiculous. This crazy lady lives, breaths and worships the Starbucks "values and experience" and fails to realize that just because this is her life, her employees have a real life and this is a job. We need to get paid, not have a lousy "experience." I am not normally one who dwells on negitivity, but I am absolutely shocked at the crap we are required to do. I cannot be a permanent happy ray of sunshine for 8 hours a day and 39.5 hours a week. I DONT GET PAID ENOUGH!!! and...when your not getting paid full time wages when your working full time, the benefits tend to be a little pricey. What's the point in benefits if you can't afford them?

Im a barista and i had this one idiot customer come and order a mango tea frappucino.... then she went to the hand out station, waiting with like 4 other people that was ahead of her. An iced grande americano came out, and OBVIOUSLY it was not a mango tea frappucino..... but she grabbed it and started drinking it.. (even if the barista CALLED out Iced Grande Americano) and then she comes back to me and complains " I ordered a mango tea frapuccino... why does this taste like black coffee?" I'm like "LADY..... because it IS coffee...... " HELLO.. how retarded do you have to be.... if your new to starbucks at least use your common sense.. there's absolutely NO way MANGO is going to be black... unless......... i dont know.... and you're not the only one in line...

I am a shift supervisor at SB and have been for over a year now. I really do not hate big business or things of that sort. What I don\'t like are companies like SB that claims to be the \"Savior\" of corporate America. They lie about being good for the workers in coffee producing countries, and that they strive for a better environment. Here is a little fact that people may not know if they are not currently working for SB. The increase in our drink prices that SB claimed went to coffee producers never made it that far. They made up some weird system to give certain workers wage increases, then pocketed some of it, and then what was left went to the coffee producers. Again I do not care if you want to make more money, but do not lie to everyone were this money is really going to go. Another wonderful lie that they tell is that they care about bettering the world. They say that they donate all of this money to great causes around the world, but they make sure that if they do donate their name is everywhere. For instance Race for the Cure is coming up, instead of giving the organization more money than they are, which SB is one of the lowest contributors, they are giving out free drinks at the event. Rest assured though that their name will be everywhere, and that the company is their only as a marketing ploy. Again I am not against corporations being greedy or anything of the sort. What gets me is when you lie about it. Don\'t tell me that you care when the majority of people with half a brain realizes that you are leaving through your teeth. Stop feeding us your lies about being so conscientious.

I worked for Starbucks for a very long 6 months. I was working at another coffee shop chain and was offered a job at Starbucks and decided to take it because the pay was .25 cents more ( an unlivable $8.25 an hour, I was not even able to buy one of their own ridiculously expensive lattes let alone pay my rent on my part time schedule). That was a mistake. At first it was alright, the days went by pretty fast because we were always busy and the people seemed nice. The brainwashing video sessions and partner training we had to do at head office was a bit much but Starbucks seemed like an OK place to work. Slowly but surely I came to realise what a terrible environment it was, and what it was doing to me. I would be put in for an 11 pm closing shift and then expected to open the next morning at 530 am. I took a week off to go to a friends wedding and ended up getting really bad food poisoning and was told by Starbucks that I was not entitled to any more time off. So I had to make lattes in between running to the bathroom with diarhea or vomiting. The constant assaults on self esteem by the management that we werent going being "legendary" enough or that we werent going fast enough ( a work hazard when dealing with hot liquids. I burnt myself with coffee and was not permitted to sit down and let the burn gel work because I had already taken my 15 minute break. I was written up because a very rude customer asked me "Are you stupid?" and started yelling at me and I told him not to speak to me like that. I was scolded and written up because I wasnt there to be talked to like I was a sub-human. Near the end they did not want me working there anymore because I didnt believe the hype , so because they had no real reasons to fire me they just began writing me up for being one minute( actually one minute, since you have to punch in on a computer that pays you to the minute) late back from break here and .55 cents under my till there. So I quit before they could succeed. I consider it the worst job I have ever had and one of the worst companies in the world. Like most companies they are more concerned with profit and development than their employees well being and how well customers enjoy their products and environments. What is different about Starbucks is that they have convinced so many people that they are a great company with no corporate agenda. They have convinced entire generations that drinking unfairly traded over priced over roasted coffee will make them a wholly better person. They have created an identity for people through coffee consumption and at any cost to the people that dont make livable wages growing and roasting the beans to the baristas and that is their real success.

Here's why I hate Starbucks: In San Ramon, Ca, there was a little mom-and-pop coffee shop in this little strip mall right off of Crow Canyon Rd. A really sweet location for a food business. They hired local folks and sold some swell coffee. The even got their business going well enough that they could start expanding into pastries and chocolates, which makes good sense. Then a shop a few doors down closed up. After a while paper went onto the window and after a few months a Starbucks opened up there! Nothing says love like a landlord letting a competitor into a small shopping center. Because I drove by the location frequently, I got to see the sad downward spiral of a thriving coffee shop as it's green-logo'd neighbor ate up any chance of profits coming it's way. I hope the coffee shop owners were able to sue the hell out of the landlords for helping shut them down like that, but that's only a dream for now.

i work for a non starbucks coffee shop. we end up getting quite a bit of starbucks customers coming over because of the area our shop is. you can tell right off the batt who they are: the ones who ask "do you have a frappuccino thingy?", the ones who order iced cappuccinos, the ones who get up to the counter and blab for about 30 minutes about their drink - "double shot nonfat 120 degree sugar free hazelnut latte with a half squirt of caramel, with 3 ice cubes, one cut in half, oh and by the way halfcalf", now thats a mouthful, and if you miss a part they treat you as if you are a two year old. most of all, a starbucks customer is a CHEAT! i am for one tired of having someone order shots on ice, walk over to the area where we provide free cream and sugar for the coffee, then proceed to dump milk into their cup of shots, those people know exactly how to cheat the little guys in the coffee business - who wouldnt when youre learning from the grandmaster of cheats!

i\'ve been a regular at starbucks for over 5 years and have worked for the company for two. starbucks is no longer my happy place. poor drink quality, unrealistic expectations from corp to staff, and rediculous retail merch makes me embarassed to work here. also, why is a drive-thru necessary. i spend most shifts consumed by my headset, resulting in complete impersonal BS. i serve fat americans who are too stupid to know a real latte and too lazy to drag their asses out of their cars. what happened to the coffee house.

Starbucks...what a joke...my son threw in the green apron after 8 months of torture. Starbucks customers are the worst. No one orders off the menu, almost every drink he made was custom. People go as far as asking for a specific degree of heat! They don’t even want to put there own sugar in, they ask for it along with all the other ridicules request, and if you don't do it with a smile they(customers) complain. But of course, you can't blame the customer, Starbucks has created this monster.

I started at Starbucks a few days ago, in a hospital. I hate it so far. I cannot remember how to call drinks, most of the customers are snooty asshole doctors, and I dont even know how to write the drinks for the baristas. The traning is bullshit, they tell you to read a book, sit you at a computer and then say "Off you go!". If you want anything good at Starbucks, it would have to be the blended non-Coffee based drinks, ready to eat and drink types, and the tea. Lol, and it was supposed to be famous for coffee.

I hate Starbucks too because: 1. Their coffee tastes AWFUL and is way overpriced. 2. The Borg-like way they're taking over my favourite shopping areas, so I can't walk for more than a few blocks without my nostrils being assaulted by the acrid stench of over-roasted coffee beans 3. Their stupid faux-European terminology - is tall, grande, and venti supposed to sound sophisticated? It makes no sense linguistically. 4. All the posing as a socially responsible company while they underpay their employees and suppliers Thankfully I live in a large city where there are plenty of alternatives.

I will not go into a whole diatribe about how bad "Star-butts" is, but I will add my 2 cents because I agree with how nasty and perverse "Star-butts" is to the wonderful coffee bean. Besides catering to those with absolutely no taste buds, they cater to snobbish morons who think they are cool going into the damned stores. Give me a coffee shop with better variety, happier people, and more then a brand name, like the gas station/convenience store.

I have given up Starbucks due to I'm tired of their coffee cups completely disrespecting religion. I contacted them about this and they were completely fine with the trouble and hurt feelings that they are causing for people of faith such as I. Plus they are just TOO expensive!!!! Ok and who told them their coffee didn't taste like burnt beans???

Starbucks runs out the little guys. I would much rather give my money to someone on their own who is trying to make it with a unique, friendly coffee shop rather than a huge, sterile corporation,and judging from some of the employees posting here-not a very nice place to work either.

I must say, I absolutely LOATHE Starbucks. Being a resident of Los Angeles myself, many seem to think that loving the oh so craptastic coffee is a pre-req. And so, as not only a lover and devotee to the privately owned establishments near my house, I was horribly dismayed to see that Starbucks had opened shop literally across the street from my favorite of all Coffee shops, and my place of work. However, As I soon found out, they get almost no buisness! I don't know why, but I absolutely derive pleasure out of seeing an empty Starbucks at 7am- or any time of day for that matter.
