I hate Starbucks too. I worked for the company for five years. I worked my butt off in hopes of being promoted to lousy ASM but it never happened. But, they hired a string of unqualified, externals before giving me a promotion. They lead me on and pimped me. I got tired of being pimped and got a new job ( go me!!). F--k starbucks. They wanted to pay me less than 12.00 per hour to take attitudes from snotty customers! Our floor drains backed up repeatedly and over flowed into the front of the store. The customers couldn't get into the store without getting their shoes wet. The baristas had to roll their pants up from getting wet and the drain water soaked through our shoes. We still had to keep the store open and the DM never returned any of my phone calls. I have five years worth of unbelievable stories. p.s. To all of you starbucks lovers...get off of the starbucks stick; starbucks is exploiting its workers, customers, and the farmers that produce the coffee. duh!!!

Ok i work at starbucks... its got more dumb rules for no reason.... my assistant manager like to say "Your gonna hate me but..." "...you cant wear those shoes..." "...no clear nailpolish..." "...run the store practically by yourself" and so on. I had black shoes (like that poor other guy) with a tiny tip of pink, and i had to go buy ALL NEW SHOES using my skateshop birthday gift certificate... there goes $50 to shoes i didnt need... plus i don't get tips, AND they always forget to give me my breaks...thus i work 5 hour shifts w/ no break. the people who go to starbucks are generally fat-heads who have nothing better to do and hang out there for hours.... if only i had known.... stupid starbucks...give it up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I need information on anyone who has been put through hell as I have been, in reporting wrongs committed, to HR. I can be contacted at my email address for now until my case moves further along, but I certainly can use the help from anyone else who has suffered by HR. So please contact me.

Whose idea was it to make green tea frap? It's one of the worst drinks I have ever had and I don't think it will be too popular but the zen ice tea will be.

Coffee is my comfort food, I get the headaches if I go with out for a day. And I have had tons of cashiering/customer service jobs some have even been barista positions. All of the 3 times I have ever been to one was enough to turn me off to the company for ever. Although I will pick up a bottle of frap from a gas station when I can find a large for under $2, I will not go in to a Starbucks ever again. There is no reason for me to have to learn a new language to order a large! If the cashiers know what I want why do they feel the need to correct me when I order a Milky Way? And my god but their coffee and espresso is just bad. It a McJob! Why the attitude?

I have worked for the company for 2 years now and my displeasure grows daily. For my first year I worked at a Bux located in a strip mall kind of deal. It was not so bad at first. It was fun getting to know the customers as most of them were fairly decent people. However, as my time there passed I grew increasingly angered by the ambiguous and often contradictory rules and regulations. My SM was a water head and tried to enforce even the most contradictory and inane rules. And she was NEVER wrong. Nothing was her fault and she always tried to pin violations on baristas. There were more than 2 dozen employees at this store and none of us got more than 20 hours very often. Even more bothersome was the fact that one week I would be scheduled for 35 hours and then the next I would only have 6. Then I went away to college and came back over winter/summer trying to find a job. I got hired back at a Bux in a mall. "Bad idea" does not even begin to summarize this. During the holiday season the wait time in line would often be more than 30 minutes with more than 30 people ALWAYS in line. No one knew what they wanted much less what size. It was 8 solid hours of hell everyday. At this store my manager has been amazing. She totally keeps it real and often works 45-55 hours a week, spending most of her time on the line making drinks with us. All of my "partners" are real cool at this store. It the customers that are complete C-NTS. Soccer-moms, suits, and retarded kids wanting rediculous drinks that taste like a barnyard. Even worse, most of our customers do not speak english making it nigh impossible to extract from them what kind of Flacuchino they want. People take the wrong drinks, forget what they ordered and complain about waiting 4 seconds to get their drink when there are obviously 20 peoples drinks ahead of their own. I work like a slave all day and after a full weeks work I am too exhausted physically and emotionally to do anything on my days off. I would quit, but it is hard to find a job for only the summer/winter when I have college in between. Starbucks has stripped me of my dignity as a human being and reduced me to nothing but an automoton churning out cup after cup of bile. This was a rant, so forgive the stream of consciousness format. I'll have a more insightful post at a later time.

One day, I was with my brother at Starbucks (He had invited me. And he prefers other places. It was just that thing of "well, let's try the place"). We were asked for our orders and names. The last thing sounded a bit strange to me, as we were the only customers at that moment. I can understand that they ask your name when the place is full, but not in this case. Was something due to habit, or more one of those things they do so customers think Starbucks gives them special treat?

Arrr,,,, death to starbucks! I've never been a big fan of huge corporations, and when McDonalds revealed their first loss ever i cheered. But it seems that McDonald-induced obeseity in children will just be replaced by caffiene addictions instead.

Me: My name is Nicholas and I'm addicted to caffeine. You: Hi Nicholas Yes, I drink coffee. I'm also a ski bum from Colorado. Right now I'm in Argentina and on my way to Chile. Those two things go hand in hand followed by a good spliff. I've never worked in a food and beverage environment. I'm sorry to see that there are so many grumpy 4Bucks employees and ex-employees. Maybe it's the bad coffee. I suggest you do something about your grumpiness because at the end of the day, you are the one who will carry that burden of a bad 'tude. May I suggest that you go cut up some fresh milk (powder snow.) It will do wonders for your smile.

Really, does anyone like Starbucks coffee?? I personally think it's gross - extremely high acid content and tastes like they never clean the coffee makers. Blech. No wonder they look at you like you're on crack if you order a regular coffee. I guess no one does, since in order for it to not taste like crap you need to put that double french vanilla caramel raspberry mocha cinnamon shot in it. I see most people posting about the ethics, but do they all truly enjoy drinking their coffee? I like my coffee strong, but Starbucks tastes like the dregs that have sat around for a day on a warmer then is reheated in the microwave. Give me tea over that!

I found this site while surfing the phrase, "corporate empire". "Hmmmm..." says I, "ought to be fun." It was - in a way, and kinda sad. See, I was there for the whole thing, pretty much. Cool little coffee company to MCstarbucks... Ol' Howie'd been on the job about a year, I guess, when I started. Maybe 20 stores, total... When I left, there was a couple a thousand stores, and the beast was fully growed. Oh yeah, I can relate. As I read the first 60-80 entries here, I saw all the old *$'s archtypes, and it was like a trip down memory lane. When I got to mine, "the true believer screwed HARD by incompetent a$$kissers" I pretty much had to stop. Too close to home. Anyway, I got away a long time ago, so I'm not venting. This is a message of hope to the afflicted, a tiny light in the darkness, and the gospel according to me : Get thy buttsky to HR and give notice, sayeth me. For it is the righteous who give up and quit, and the weak and stupid who give up and stay. -ESP:20:22 I'm not kiddin', there is LIFE after starbucks. You'll feel better the minute you start planning your escape. GOOD LUCK, BUCKEROOS!!!

I'm happy to announce that an asm that I hated had finally left my store and has gone on to haunt another one! I swear he is the worst closer ever!!!! isn't aware of wat needs to be done at what time in order to get out on time!!! and is just plain slow!!! I find that I'd be telling HIM what to do instead of the other way around...sad....lol...Everything would be done and we'd be waiting around for him...literally...he stalls by trying to clean random things, whether it be on the walls or organize something instead of trying to be smart and save labor and leave already!!! and...someone he just hired or insisted on interviewing before he left...and then our store manager hired...he looks like he's 12!!! i hope to whip him into shape...b/c...from wat I've heard this is his first real job...o! no! and now we also have a new asm that replaced the one that left...she seems nice...i hope it all comes together after this weird transitional period...I really do hope so...and why is it always war btwn. openers and closers? it just is...an opener has no right to complain about the close...esp. if he/she has NEVER closed!!!! I HAVE SOO MUCH RESPECT FOR CLOSERS!!!! the war is on! hehe...

Okay guys, I am about to begin my job at Starbucks here in Phoenix, AZ at a 5 month-old location here in town. From what I have been reading here, I am about to call my boss and tell her I am quitting before I even start! LOL. I am going to try my best to work hard and see how Starbucks goes. Any advice for a new guy so I prepare for the storm that lies ahead? My manager seems very nice and attentive, raising a family and is really down-to-earth so far, I am on her good side. I am as far as doing my homework to read the manual. I am not on schedule yet, I begin sometime this following week. How are the medical benefits? What do I need to know socially before I begin? I appreciate your help, and I will check back here from time to time for some advice seeking. I wanna see how things goes first, so please, do not scare me away from Starbucks, LOL. Thanks guys.

Sorry if somebody effected your drink. I think its wrong. Most of the time, the decaf is changed to regular before anything can be done. Just be careful if that little barista has a smirk on his/her face as the shots are being pulled!

I honestly believe they burn their old stale coffee and give it 3rd world names to keep people from complaining about the bad taste. The joke is on us, the silly consumer, over-paying for a simple beverage that is insulted and manipulated into a frothy and highly acidic beverage. Is "Barista" the name of a graduate of some Italian College of Coffee Brewing? Think not... try a Dunkee medium reg-lar, like a normal person. Yuppies and SUV owners are not my heros, nor do I care to use my coffee cup as a symbol of elitist snobbery in caffiene to impress them. Starbucks represents everything I hate about "image" makers in this country. GADS, let's go to the Mom n Pops coffee houses and boycott the SBs! Kathy in MA

I don't just hate Starbucks, I hate coffee. I hate that my students come to class with raunchy coffee breath and I have to endure it because I teach speaking English. F*ck Starbucks, and F*ck Coffee. I also hate starbucks because I work at a French restaurant at nite and people ask for double whipped non-fat cappuccino's. SInce when is French food non-fattening? If you want a Starbucks coffee, go to f'ing Starbucks.

Starbucks coffee tastes like shit..really. And what's the idea of bonuses for managers for high mystery shoper scores..bullshit. Last time my SM sent email to DM [we did around 98%, few times in a row] - 'Blablabla All that thanks to me and my assistant managers and our superior trening to partners' ...WTF?!?! Managers _never_ trained me in anything..bunch of mtf. And who gets a bonus? We all know who.

I have been a good starbucks customer for the past four years. The starbucks i go to is located 20-feet from the entrance of my employer--Fred Meyer. I have used starucks as a "getaway zone" from work on my lunch hours. I recently was looking at the amount of money i spent everyday in a month period. WOW! $288.00! Needless to say I stopped my starbucks habit 10-days ago and am normal again. I do miss the workers at that particular xbux.

There can be some fun working at Starbucks ;-> I remember last year I had to work at Starbucks during this thing in our neighborhood called, 'Elmfest' and there were so many customers that the two shifts I was working with got fed up. So one of the shifts decided to go to the grocery store across the street and picked up some grey goose vodka. Well, we decided to use the Blender for our "Beverages" that we delighted in... We were all soooo drunk by the end of the night. We were messing up the orders and taking our sweet a** time. One of the shifts also decided to go in back of the store and get high, so on top of him being drunk, he was also high..... What a great night it was!

After reading your posts it seems that I've lucked out by accepting the dreary office job over the Starbucks postition when both offered me a job. Although any job is not without it's downfalls. I work in a crummy neighbourhood and have to insure cars at a used car dealership (which is full of slimy used car salesmen). If the job sucks so much then get out, what is worth becoming so bitter about?! I feel somewhat guilty for contibuting to your pain, but I go the Starbucks down the block from work for lack of anywhere else decent to go in a commercial area full of dollar stores and second rate produce stores...and I am addicted to my coffee break ritual. I will take a hiatus from this ritual and maybe take up smoking to relax me during work.

For all of you S'Bux haters.....there is an alternative. Try Peet's Coffee. Remember, a wise man/woman once said: "Tolerance is a virtue of those without conviction." Move on people!
