| It is sad what Starbucks does to coffee. Considering that each tree only yields 4 lbs of beans per year they burn them during roasting. What a waste. There is a reason behind this : The dominant flavour is burnt charcoal. This they can replicate all over the world in any espresso machine, water temperature and water quality. They call it their signature taste and it demonstrates their disregard to the essence of coffee. Using first class beans and burning them is a sin!!!
I myself run a small independant coffee bar in the south of England. My next door neighbours are Starbucks and Costa Coffee. They are so involved at competing amongst themselves - selling trash - and are overlooking that my business is growing stronger by the day.Starbucks please carry on the way you are. You are doing my a favour !!!!! |

| I live in auburn, WA and they recently began putting up starbucks coffee shops around every f****** corner. They make them so tiny so that there are like two tables and a sofa. You go in there, get your crappy 5.00 coffee and don't even want to be there! I was recently in one starbucks only for studying purposes since the library was closed. I felt bad just staying there with my friend so I bought some tea. Then some fat bitch boss started going into detail to her lower-positioned employees about her damn pregnancy. Then this fat bitch starts telling them about how much she loves fergie from that worthless group the black-eyed fleas and how she feels bad that britney spears is depressed. They had to just kind of stand there and nod through the whole 20-minute rambling and I just uppin left because of her. I don't actually buy the overpriced coffee there, but I was buying fairtrade coffee and making it at home. Fairtrade is the same brand that starbucks uses. But I am now happy to report that I have a new brand that comes in a 3 pound bag made by the east bay coffee co. I am NEVER going to support starbucks ever again. Their stuff is shit. |

| Aurora,
It is absolutely untrue that they start at 14.00 -- as someone who currently works at Starbucks, the starting pay is NO MORE than 8.00 an hour, no matter where you live. Oh yeah, and Starbucks blows. |

| I am a the owner of a custom jewelry store in historical downtown Frederick, MD. I have been here for 15 years and just love the feel of this town, up until now. Our first franchise is just about to open and as you guess it is Starbucks. This is in a town that has six coffee shops in a two block area already. I have never been so disapointed!!!!!!!!! I just know there is no way to stop the \"walmarts-starbucks\" of this world. |

| I recently took early retirement because of long commute.
I heard that starbucks starting pay is $14.50 per hour. Is that true and does the pay differ from state to state. I was thinking of taking a job with them but I really want to hear from those who love it and the reasons they do or simply hate it. What would be the best hours to work etc.
This job would be so different from what I am used to doing before. Your help is appreciated.

| I really am furious today. I have been going to the same starbucks for like 4 years. My daughter used to work there, for 2 ½ years, and it’s a Magic Johnson Starbucks. We have been having a GREAT difficulty, with the manager there. He has fired many good workers, and openly discriminated against a Muslim employee. He told the employee that he couldn’t say his prayers at work, which is a violation of federal law, and the employee went to work for Home Depot. This same manager, openly admitted that he was regularly parking in the handicapped space of the parking lot. When I asked him why he was parked there, he has no tag, he said that the lot was full. I asked him what if someone who actually needed the space needs to park there, and couldn’t because his car was there? And his answer was that there were other handicapped spaces in the lot. He has chased out all the nice people working there, either fired them, drastically cut their hours, or made them soooo miserable they quit.
The latest problem is HORRIBLE and TERRIBLE. He has instituted a campaign to keep young black men from sitting outside. He is ACTIVELY DISCRIMINATING against these youth. He is a black American himself, and this is a Magic Johnson Starbucks This is what has happened so far:
A.) A group of young men, black and Hispanic, regularly goes to this Starbucks, and play a card game, (Yu-Gi-OH.) First he tried to make a rule that no-one could play card games there. I called corp. to complain, and they told me that there was NO Starbucks policy against card playing of any kind.
B.) He started to monitor the customers, BUT ONLY CERTAIN ONES. So when these young black and Latino men came there, he would tell them that they had to buy a coffee, or leave, because they were loitering. He openly told the workers in this place, that these guys weren’t allowed to play cards, or sit without buying anything. He does not tell the white college students from the dorm across the street that they have to leave, when they come with a laptop, and ask for free water, and study for 4 or 5 hours. When business men and women come in a group, maybe for example a group of 5, and only 2 get a Starbucks drink, he doesn’t ask the other 3 to leave. But he does tell these young men that if they don’t buy something, they need to leave. He also doesn’t ask mothers with little children to go, unless they are going to buy something, some of whom sit for 2 hours or so.
C.) He has actually called the Police Dept., to complain that 3 of these young men, young black men, were loitering, when they had in fact purchased drinks, which was verified by the shift, who rang them up. I also called corp. about this. Nothing has changed. Everyone knows that the loitering laws have historically been used to discriminate against unwanted minority groups. The police officers I asked, from the same dept., said that the Starbucks would have to have a no loitering sign in order for them to enforce the law. I can’t see Howard agreeing with that!
D.) He has told his employees to tell people that they can’t play card games there, or that they can’t sit without buying anything, but not everyone, just CERTAIN PEOPLE. I am there every day, and the only people I have seen asked to buy something or leave, are these young black and Latino men. No-one I know, who goes there regularly has seen any other people asked to buy something or leave.
E.) Today I went there, to wait for my daughter to get off work, she works across the street at the mall now, and I saw him, the manager, go outside and speak with the same group of young men. When he came back inside, I asked him if he was asking them to leave. He told me that he had told them they had to buy something, or leave. So I asked him if that was the rule for all customers? He said that these young men took up too much space, and paying customers couldn’t find seats outside. So I asked him what the reasoning was when the young men purchased something. Then he said that when he went outside to speak with them, he heard profanity, which he called cursing. He said that he couldn’t have that kind of behavior there. So I asked him if he asked the white college students who come there, to buy something or leave. He responded by asking me if they curse? So I asked him if he meant that white university students didn’t curse? He said that he doesn’t hear them. Then he mentioned that he has permission from his district manager, to ban card playing because some weeks ago, there was a fight outside, and that the fight happened over cards, well he wasn’t even there that night, but that now he can ban all card games. So will banning music be next? Because maybe some one will get into a fight while people are listening to music? Then he proceeded to tell me that his 13 year-old son doesn’t play cards, that he doesn’t, the implication being that no sane, mature person would.? He also tried to tell me that the Starbucks policy was that minors can’t be there unsupervised. When I pointed out to him that most of these guys were adults, he asked me, “ How do I know they aren’t in a gang?” Which was sooooooooooooo offensive, I am not sure where to begin. I am pretty sure that if it had been a group of white preps, he wouldn’t have asked that question. How does he know that the business men and women aren’t in a gang?
What can anyone do about this guy?
Federal law for discrimination, you don’t need to prove intent, just a disproportionate impact, which we have here. Even leaving aside the RADICALLY different treatment, just at this Starbucks, my friend is an assist. Manager at a DC Starbucks, and when white high school kids were using illegal drugs, and selling them, having sex in the bathrooms, he was told by his manager, and corp., that he couldn’t call the police, because these kids were CUSTOMERS. He told me tonight, when I called him at work, that homeless guys, who don’t buy anything, as long as they are sitting reasonably quietly, they NEVER ask them to leave, or buy something. So I am not sure what the policy is, but it is NOT BEING EVENLY ENFORCED.
Has this happened elsewhere? IS anyone interested in a class action lawsuit?
The young men who come there want to have a protest, a rolling sit in. We are going to hand out flyers at the University of MD, and Howard University. We are going to ask people to come and get a coffee, or water, and bring cards. We are going to contact local and national press. We are going to post this email on Yu-Gi-Oh Websites.

| I used to absolutely love this company when I started working for them... but I have gradually noticed that while they offer a lot of great things for their employees, most don't get to reap those benefits because they can be so easily weeded out for any reason. Let's look at the stocks, for example... I have a large amount of them that I can start receiving at the end of this year, just for being with the company so long... but I can't have it all at once. They split the portions up annually over four years... which means they expect you to stick around that long just to get what's rightfully yours. And if you leave the company, you won't receive any of it - even if you've been there a few years already. I have never worked anywhere that is so riddled with ridiculous policies that it's almost impossible to do your job without getting in trouble for something, anything, if it means the manager can have a little less mud slung their way from higher-ups. And I've never seen rules added, removed and changed as frequently as they do in this corporation. There's no consistency whatsoever. I've never felt more underappreciated by a manager; however, I have also never felt more appreciated by my coworkers. I have never been fired from a job in my life, and I've never been accused of the things I'm being accused of now, but I have also never had such a tense relationship with my boss either. Little wonder why it's come to this. Anyone who wishes to work for this company better think twice... because this is how it's going to go: you'll love working there for the first year or so, but because management is always being shifted around, you're eventually going to have a manager you butt heads with and that person alone will be responsible for what happens to your job and your reputation. They will do ANYTHING they can... find any reason they can... to get rid of you. And they will succeed because the policies make it pretty easy for them to nail you with something, even if you do your best to follow them. I believe everyone who has worked here for a good period of time will eventually experience this, and just wait until you know what it feels like to go from being an exemplary employee who has good rapport with customers and employees to suddenly losing your job because of a personal vengeance or an unfortunate twist of events. And since I've been working here, I've known of a lot of people this has happened to, and when I read this website I couldn't believe the number of people who have gone through or are going through the exact same thing. For just a buck more than minimum wage, it's so not worth the toiling you're going to go through just trying to earn a living for a company that's supposedly so great to its employees. |

| I am currently employed at starbucks, and yes I hate the place too. luckily, I work with some good employees, and my manager makes my schedule do-able for my lifestyle, so that's all good. here's the problem: sh*t-head customers. ones like those who have posted on this site (sorry for any swipe at this site's comaraderie) who complain about 'cranky' employees. we're cranky because of some of you folk! now, granted, many many MANY of you are wonderful human beings, and some of you even show that to us employees who merely exist to serve you coffee. However, the vast majority of customers are the ungrateful, pretentious, I-have-the-world-on-my-shoulders-and-I-would-love-nothing-more-than-to-put-that-weight-on-your-poor-blue-collared-shoulders-too types who enter the store on cell phones, don't know what they want (or think they do, order it, find out they 'got confused' and want something completely different (note there is NO SUCH THING AS AN ICED CAPPUCINO)), and slam their money on the counter without as much as a grunt of a thank you. This is why I hate starbucks, and this is why some of you unfortunate customers suffer the brunt of our rage.
thank you |

| One of the best things that ever happened to me was not being hired by a barista. My roommate got hired and he became obsessed with becoming a Star Partner Coffee Master Level Three or some idiotic BS. And then conseqently flunked out of college where he was trying to get a double-degree in Japanese and English. They've actually brainwashed his OCD fat a** into thinking that Starf**ks is a good career choice. Note: ESL teachers/English teachers/Japanese teachers here get paid anywhere from $15-30 an hour. Yea. I'm also a Japanese major and I got the jobs that pay higher, with company names that will actually impress a prospective employer rather than some fake godawful chain store that will hire any hillbilly or highschool drop out if they can spell out their name on the application. |

| I have thought about looking in to working part time at Starbucks, and accidentally came across this site while looking for the Starbucks site. I'm very glad I did!!! Although I do like their fraps and some of the flavored hot drinks, I do agree that they are way too pricey and the coffee is horribly strong and burned tasting. I asked to have my coffee diluted, and that didn't even help. I read in one of the postings about how people get so excited about a Starbucks coming to their neighborhood. Well, there's nothing to be excited about where I live....there's one one just about every corner. They are the next 7-11....one on each corner. Personally, I'd rather go to Wawa for my coffee. |

| I hate Starbucks im sick of them treating me like crap! I call and there like ya we know we will talk to them no sorry no nothing! So Go to starbucks and i live in AZ and i asked for a cappachino not a frapachino. She asked 7 times if i was sure i wanted a cappachino. Then we get to the window, we had also ordered a carmal frap with no wipe cream. Get there and there is wipe cream. We tell them we ordered with no wipe cream so she gets a spoon and clears it out right in front of us and hands it to us. We say no that is not accteptable, she then hudles with other imployes and talks about us and we can hear them. So after getting our drinks we go inside to talk to the manager. He says Ya I know ill talk to them and you can call this number to complain. No sorry No nothing and i have still not received a call back from Starbucks!!! |

| I know this is really long, but what Happened really SUCKS! I'm wondering if this happened to anyone else?
I started working for Starbucks about three years ago, and I took a break because I was going to drive my car into a lake from all the freaking stress. Manager... TERRIBLE. Scheduling... EVEN WORSE! CUSTOMERS... GOD HAVE MERCY ON ME! Rude, ungreatful, impatient, rich, yet stingy when it came to tips, people. I put in hours and even extra when the store was short, for what? OH A 10 cent raise! Not even enough to buy a role of toilet paper to wipe the spoiled customers as*es! I recently started working there again. NOT BECAUSE I WANT TOO! But b/c I need the cash and it was the easiest to get hired in... "RE-hire" no paperwork or training. I'm a student, I pay my own books, school, car, and I am leaving the state soon to be on my own. Money is Money. I'm in the situation that most young adults are in, so I know I am not the only one, and other REAL people can understand where I am coming from. Anyway, I was told that I was going to be rehired with the pay that I left with, which was garbage anyway. When I take a look at my paycheck, I am being payed what I started with THREE and 1/2 YEARS AGO!!!! So, I call the payroll line and get this "THERE IS NO POLICY THAT STATES THAT A REHIRE IS TO BE PAID WHAT THEIR ENDING SALARY IS", that's what that psycho said.
I'm too tired to even argue, (waking up at 400am to be at work at 445am kinda messes up your sleeping cycle) I'm only a month away from leaving anyway... but I pretty much feel like a piece of crap. I've been working so hard, picking up the slack for people, and getting treated like trash by customers... for what? The company can't even give my the extra 50 cents I deserve? WOW! that must really effect the CEO of Starbucks!!! He might only drive his 4 cars instead of 5. I think I would get paid more and treated better at one of the bean sweat shops in South America or something. I know there is no Foul Language on this site, but I wish I could say some of the words for this company... so I'll leave it at this company sucks!
Thanks for hearing me out guys. Take care. |

| I bought two cups of coffee, one for my boyfriend and one for myself. Tasted like complete burnt, piping hot, acidic rancid crap!!! And it was almost five freakin dollars for that crap, I cannot believe people keep that place in business, that was the worst freakin coffee I have ever had in my life!!! And the pastry I bought was gross too, stale and old. But the employees are so bitter and in such bad moods, I was afraid to ask for something else, I wasn't in the mood to get my head bitten off. I will NEVER go to starbucks again. It's like you pay too much for crap, and cranky service, WHY????? I think customers are brainwashed to think it's good. I don't know...Don't get it. |
