I personally am not much of a coffee drinker, so if all starbucks disappeared it really wouldnt matter. my only problem with them is why is it that they are everywhere? even in the poorest part of town theres about a million on each corner, as if poor people can afford to drink a 3 dollar mocha latte. even if you are rich why would you spend that mmuch money a day on coffee? all coffee tastes the same, so go to 7/eleven and buy one for a dollar. by the way, in response to the person who worked there for 4years or something like that, dude seriously what did you think? thats like complaining about working at wal-mart or mcdonalds, or the video game store at the mall, the kind of places teenagers work at so they can go to the movies with their friends.

So what do all you partners think about the new chantico drink? it is ridiculous--- all the glossy marketing pamphlets that starbucks prints out to convince partners how special that fat loaded drink is. I'm sure the drinking chocolate drunk by aztecs was not loaded with as much cocoa butter and sugar as the starbucks version. I wonder what the nutritional content could be for that disgusting six ounce cup of cocoa butter. Any partners have a clue to this?

Went into the place and asked for a small coffee. The person behind the counter said tall, vente, or grande. I said whichever is the smallest. They then asked me to state exactly the terms above, which I was not familiar with, not having been to starbuck before. So, I said again, the small coffee, the person then got major attitude and picke up all three cups and waived them in my face. So, I then siad, the tall. Which by the way is the shortest of the three she wiaved in front of me bedsides the newly discovered shot. Amazing gall and attitude and poor customer service. They knew exactly what I meant, but had to give attitude anyway. Poor people training, and poor experience.

Remember right after the tsunami in Asia, Starbucks announced that for every pound of Sumatra coffee they sell, they'll donate $2 to the relief efforts? Well, my boyfriend went into a Starbucks yesterday because we were in a city we didn't know very well and didn't know of an alternative. He tried to order Sumatra coffee, and whadaya know---Sumatra is only sold in a DEcaffeinated form. I wonder what percentage of their customers buy decaf? maybe 0.0000001? What a scam. Even their wageslave was pissed off about it. So, much for their generous humanitarian donation.

I've noticed that people who work at Starbucks come off like they are extroverted, happy, chipper, and excited while working there. However, pass them by on the street or in line at a grocery store... and they're the complete opposite: withdrawn and introverted. Anyone else notice this? Does Starbuck's only hire "two-faced" people?

O.K. I work at a Starbucks and over the past few years have grown an almost overwhelming hate for the company on the whole. But I also have to say this: Just because you personally dislike the beverages doesn't mean it's bad coffee, I mean come on. Different people have different tastes. And as far as commenting on baristas at starbucks goes: To judge someone by the work possition that they hold is very much stereotyping and wrong. You can hate starbucks but don't hate the poor bastards that work there. If you do you are doing something much worse than starbucks itself. I imagine this page was created for people like me to express their dislikes of Starbucks, not to bash some poor guy that has to have a job like everyone else on this page. Having said that. I started working at a starbucks about three years ago. I got the job because I really liked coffee. At first it was all happy and I liked my job. I've always had a taste for coffee and I thought that a job that was all about coffee would be cool. How wrong I was. You see, when I think of coffee I think a cup of coffee, not a Iced grande white choclate mocha with toffee nut syrup and whipped cream on top with real caramel drizzled on it. But that is exactly what I make all day. everyday. It should be called "CARAMELBUCKS" It's driving me insane. You may never know the exquisite hate you feel when some patron comes in and looks up at the drink board and starts bitching to you about the price of coffee like you had something to do with it, and then orders a Caramel Frappucino!!!! Blasthemy!!!! Let me let you in on a little secret.............People come to starbucks AS WELL AS SEVERAL OTHER COFFEE BUISNESSES not because of a love of coffee but because a love of ICE CREAM and SUGAR and CHOCLATE etc. Frappucino's have destroyed all but a small portion of my love of coffee. I still drink coffee at work but all I get is a 8 ounce cup of black COFFEE. You should try it sometime. I guess I've strayed off a little though. Basically what I want to say is that you shouldn't complain about starbucks. Even though you may hate IT as much as I do. I work at Starbucks and it is the MCDonalds of coffee. My job is not to sell coffee and inform people of the beans but to nurture addiction, and satisfy the dark urges of the overweight population. Sometimes I feel sad when I see a customer come in twice or even three times and order a 5 dollar drink. Or maybe their trying to lose weight so they get it "skinny" or their on Atkins so they get it "breve" in any event it is not doing anything for them but destroying their bodies. Sometimes I get angry when I look down the line of people standing in front of me waiting for "coffee". Just standing their waiting like sheep, or better yet cows to the slaughter. I hate my job and what it stands for, corporate gain and a capitalization off of people's weaknesses and disorders. But I asure you that if you ever come by my line and follow the countless clones and sheep to the register, you will be looking at a wolf in sheeps clothing, grinning a little more sadistically than the rest. -The world of coffee is dead, but tea is better and better for you, so drink that instead!-

Thankfully In Melbourne Australia there are still those little small business cafes around that know how to make a \"real\" coffee- though did I get a shock when I visted New York in 2004. Star Bucks are on on every corner in New York, I found there are more Star Bucks then Mc Donalds....now what does that say? In Sacramento they even have a drive through Star Bucks but thats another story. There is one good thing about Star Bucks which came handy on my tirp and only one good thing- they make great public toilet stops Bless you Star Bucks Bless you....

I was discusted when Starbucks decided to play the nice guys by donating $2 of the sale of 1lb of sumatra for the tsunami relief. why not Donate the all profit, instead of making a profit! but also remember their generous contribution of a $100,000 : that is less than 50cts per dead and even less than 5cts per survivors.

If you come to Seattle pleeeeaasse remember to look up all the great coffee shops that are NOT starbucks! Thanks, and, remember. . . Starbucks sucks!! Also, if you go anywhere else in the world try the local coffee, it usually doesn't suck as bad.

Starbucks is insidious. Its number one reason for existence seems far away from good coffee. They'll find any way to make more money by giving you less. One only has to look at their latest (highly overpriced) scheme involving Wi Fi computer access. Go to Internet Cafes... you'll get way cheaper access and better product; not the purposely overroasted stuff that Starbucks claims is "coffee"!

This morning I am into half of my bag of Starbucks Christmas Blend and, lo and behold, what falls into my scoop? One of those cheap little plastic scoops clearly labelled Gevalia Kaffee! So what do we have here? Is Starbucks really just hiking up the price on Gevalia coffees? I am now certain I am shopping in the wrong place. What a rip off!

This may seem like a slightly trivial gripe about sbux compared to workers rights and sub standard coffee but.... until about six months ago sbux in the uk habitually provided free copies of all of the national dailies SUN STAR EXPRESS MAIL GUARDIAN etc a nice touch i always thought and much appreciated as it gave something to browse through while wiling away the morning. Six months a go this all changed now Sbux offers only on e daily newspaper , THE TIMES, a Rupert murdoch news corp paper, and in addition they now have the temerity to charge the full cover price. This is a bit rich since most customers do not take the paper out of the outlet and leave it for the next customer or at least they did when it was free, now that you pay for it people are more inclined to leave with the paper. A thought occurs that if you do not remove the newspaper from the premises is it legal for them to insist on charging for it,as you did not buy it as such merely browse throught it, surely the customer has the right to inspect the goods prior to purchase ? Anyway as i said a trivial gripe in the great scheme of things but on that has been bugging me since it started !!!

I see most of the posters to this site are Xemployees, which speaks volumes to the work environment. I always thought the StarBucks environment was a facade, and the people who actually hung out there a bit sad. I consider myself a real coffee drinker, and order sizes small, medium, or large of the black brew, no sugar or cream to spoil that exquisite bitter taste...period. The only reason I go to a SB's is to get the occasional pound of Arabian Mocha. If anyone knows of a non-SB's coffee similar to this I will try it and if close will leave SB's forever. Other than this one vice, I frequent mom and pop coffee shops, The people who work there are usually the owners of the store and are genuinely passionate and knowledgeable about coffee in general. And I can get my cup of brew in a small, medium, or large cups, and some allow you to do this all on your own. Imagine that! These stores are where I get a larger variety of flavors. But again that Arabian Mocha is really good coffee, somebody HELP ME.

Venti double shot double blended with whip espresso frappuccino: I hate you. Venti 2 raw sugar toffee nut latte: I hate you. Whip cream on your light frappuccino: I hate you. Grande nonfat 5 pump 3 splenda no water no foam 120 degree chai: I hate you. Venti half caf 3/4 nonfat 1/4 whole milk latte: I hate you. Grande whole milk cappuccino with nonfat foam: I hate you. Grande coffee to the top of the sleeve with 2 shots: I hate you. And don't be smug to the cashier and say that the barista knows your drink. The cashier still has to ring you up, schmuck. And don't quip "you must be new." No, I worked there over 3 years. I just thankfully avoided having to ring up your sorry ass until now. It's the rich coffee taste I love. It's the fussy, high-maintenance "it's my special drink" people I can do without.

"The biggest dirty secret at Starbucks--the coffee is low grade robitussa--the same kind you get in a Maxwell House can. The difference in taste occurs between the beans left whole and that maxwell house grinds the coffee sucks all of the oil out of it and vacuum packs it in a can. But there is nothing special about the coffee. It's all in the distribution." I'm calling bullshit on you Amanda. 1. Starbucks has never purchased robusta beans. All coffee sold is Arabica and imported, labeled, and taxed thusly. 2. Purchasing Robusta would not even make sense from a business perspective. Robusta beans make up less than 15% of all coffee harvested world-wide. It's ok if your pallet isn't mature enough to recognize a good cup of coffee...or maybe its just that you are a bitter bean yourself; unable to cope with the reality of a changing market. Whatever the reason is, get your facts straight before spreading your hatefull bullshit. -ciao

I recenetly quit my job at starbucks mainly because they pay close to minimum wage for doing quite a lot of work. I wouldn't really say I hate them though. I mean, they pay too little so I quit. If you don't like the coffee don't buy it. It's not like they're running the competition out of business buy selling their coffee below it's value (far from it!). From working there, I would say the most people can't tell the difference between good and bad coffee. They just go there because they believe it's trendy and hip. And of course because Starbucks spends an incredible amount on advertising. I don't blame the company, I blame people for being so incredibly lame and buying the stuff in huge numbers.

I hate Starbucks too. I've been working here for 6 months. Some fellow employees will brew fresh coffee into old coffee. Like what the phuck is wrong with them. And the worst part is the new Virisimo Espresso machines that make espresso taste like death. And how Starbucks wont service the old machines well is horrific. The only time I can ever drink anything there is when I make it because it tastes so bad. I feel bad for the people who have to drink the drinks I make. I feel responsible for giving them over extracted shots, but its not my fault, its this stupid corporation. God I hate Starbucks.

What I hate about Starbucks, is the fact that I have to order my coffee like a pseudo-high-class jackass. I live in Europe and even in the most high class restaurants and hotels I can order a "coffee" and they know what i want. Not a Starbucks! The thing is: I like the taste of pure coffee (no sugar, syrup, cream,..). So why the hell, when I ask for a "coffee" at Starbucks, they look at me like I'm an idiot? High class my butt. And then the taste: I know making a good espresso isn't the easiest task, but I don't think it's asking too much (especially considering the price) for my espresso not to taste like charcoal. And considering that their coffee machines come from a good swiss company that can only mean two things: 1) They buy crappy coffee beans! Quality control is tremendously important with coffee beans, since one bad bean (called stinkers) can often ruin the whole thing. This is probably most responsible for the charcoaly tast. 2) The roasting process is too short: As with most cheap coffee (cheap referring to quality not price) the beans are not roasted enough and the entire process is left to a computer not an expert. Anyway, I'm glad I live in a mostly Starbucks free zone called Germany (we only have about 7 Starbucks locations). But I'm pretty sure the craze will swap over here too :( . At least we have a lot of Italiens, that will ensure some competition :)

I live in a college town with several coffeeshops, all of which are closed for the break except...you guessed it, Starbucks. I never go there, but my shop is closed and I broke my Bodum, so I decided to stop in. Decent place, smiling people, clean, and maybe a correspondingly good cup of brew. I ordered my usual: large black coffee. That's it, I'm easy...or so I thought. The robot behind counter asked, "what did you want?" I said, "large black house." She replied, "what was that" as she shifted her shoulders towards the menu. I got the point: Starbucks doesn't sell "large" anything. "Okay" I replied, "I'll have a Ventiiiiiii, House, whatever." And with a perky, self-assured smile, she replied, "GREAT!" She then, in this eerie mechanical style, took my money, gave me the change, and made the coffee (I swear I saw a shadowy figure behind the counter with a remote control, grinning as he directed his barista-slave-creation). Okay, that's going too far, I admit; I'm just so damn angry that I cannot buy a "large" coffee. When I was a barista, I never chided people for calling "ESpresso" "EXpresso." Fckoff Starbucks!!! What's worse, I could sense that the workers there did not want to serve me, but were "ordered" to play nice by their handlers. I think this reflects a corporate culture that underappreciates its workers, not shitty people per se. But I'm not giving in. My shop opens in a week, and I've been going to Starbucks every day, and each time I insist on a LARGE coffee. And I keep on insisting until they serve it.

Why does starbucks feel like they can give away money for other people to like them. It seems to me that if your drinks were delicious, people will come back. Or if the store was big enough that way you have enough passage to put away a store order every week. I loathe at the fact that every week I've got some poon in my ear screaming for their Vanilla, non-fat, 8 equal, 92 1/2 degree latte and I can't get milk to steam because everything is in my way. It does NOT help that other employees want to go up there to hang out either. I get a drink, then I go home. It's called a freakin' day off. Why do I need to see you again and all your friends while I'm trying to put up with everyone else, then you leave a mess so my job is alittle bit harder. If this is how some people live then I would hate to see their homes. Stupid upper class, college attending, momma wants to pay for my rent and my diapers, rather take a handout pricks. Try living off your tips for awhile and see if your big ass heads can still fit through the door. Why do I still work here?

If there are 20 – 30 people waiting for coffee in front of you and there are only 2-3 people working in an understaffed shift expect to wait. Why do the people who come into Starbucks expect us to prepare their coffee before they even get there? Patience can go along way in making out job easier as well as easing that heart attack after a 4 shot tall latte.
