welcome to hell on earth... a mall starbucks around the holidays. i am a mall barista. i work in an a store built long before the automatic frap. dispenser, or the ergonomic counter design. i work in an old, tiny, over-run, under-staffed sweatshop. 75% of our customer demographic are people who don't speak a damn word of english, but feel it neccessary to wait in line for a half an hour just to get get an over-sweetened latte, or a bitter, burnt cup of coffee.i go home every night, and i hate everything, and every one. the line that the snakes out the door, past the fake hair kiosk, almost to the escalators, never ends. all the rich, over-dressed tourists, and bored wealthy soccer moms trapse up to the register to order their 'quad venti half decaf 1 splenda 5 pumps of sugar free vanilla half heavy whipping cream half non-fat 145* latte', and i hate every last one of them.

The biggest dirty secret at Starbucks--the coffee is low grade robitussa--the same kind you get in a Maxwell House can. The difference in taste occurs between the beans left whole and that maxwell house grinds the coffee sucks all of the oil out of it and vacuum packs it in a can. But there is nothing special about the coffee. It's all in the distribution.

Target has Starbucks and so does a local Obriens Grocery Store in Modesto, California. Does it excite me or make me wanna go shop and drink? NO! There is an oily look on top of some of the coffee drinks. Does any one know if its caused from whipped cream drop or do some coffee blends have it built in? It reminds me of when it rains and there is a tad bit of oil in the gutter and a cirlce of color prism is present. BOTH DRINKS HAD IT; the Mocha with peppermint and also house coffee. I get my large coffee at a local place downtown or drivethru of Jack in the Box or Mcdonalds now. I save my extra moola for clothes.

Starbucks and their Rose Parade float, what a joke!! There is no budget to to give decent raise to all you people who are dumb enough to work there, but there is more than enough to sponsor a float in the parade. Obviously it's a lack of priorities, a bunch of bs and smoke in mirrors.

Here's the latest atrocity by starf*cks. $2 from every pound sold will be "donated" to Sumatran tsunami relief. So they are not only profiting from a tragedy by piggy packing a promotion, but they are cheap bastards as well.

is it just me, or could starbucks afford to give a little more towards the south asian tsunami relief efforts?

I worked for starbucks for 3 and a half years. They claim to care about their employees with their benefits and tips and such but in order to get benefits you have to work 25 hours a week. Its impossible to work 25 hours a week because most people only get scheduled 15-20 hours. Its a complete inconvienence to go around to every store and ask if you can work EVERY week. The same applies with student loan reimbursement- you have to work 25 hours a week. What student has time to work that much if they're going to school- I sure don't. Oh yeah, did I mention the coffee is watered-down crap?

Starbucks = overpriced and overrated and when ever I did have to buy a damn drink since the chain is on what seems to be EVERY corner, just seems to give me the runs. Maybe that's too much personal info, but I guess ya drink crap, makes ya crap.

Interesting web site. I went in a Starbucks once here in Europe (UK) and was totally underwhelmed. There is a lot of local competition which is better - Italian coffee shops, pubs, sandwich bars.

I don't work for Starbucks anymore. I was a barista, a shift supervisor, an assistant store manager, a store manager, and then I left. I have suffered through 6 stores, 5 store managers and 4 district managers. I was never written up and never got anything but good reviews and raises. I moved up promotion after promotion and have never hated any job in my life more than this one, or this company. Problem #1 From "Starbucks Coffee Company Partner Guide" Section 1 (by the way, this is confidential and not to be shared with anyone outside of Starbucks Coffee Company...heh heh) Mission Statement: "Establish Starbucks as the premier purveyor of the finest coffee in the world while maintaining our uncompromising principles while we grow." These principles (as many of you know are called the Guiding Principles): 1) Provide a great work environment and treat each other with respect and dignity. It is clear by the fact this site even exists, and I rarely see a post that is not a SBUX partner, that they are failing quite miserably at number one on this list. I wonder how the UNION forming is going in the NY stores? Starbucks employees used to be unionized and voluntarily gave it up after Howard Shultz gave them all those perks and bene's...smart move huh?! Respect and dignity my ass. Did they make Fortune's top 100 companies to work for last year? Got the surveys, never heard the results. #1 definately compromised. 2) Embrace diversity as an essential component in the way we do business. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I have seen people made fun of for being fat, gay, too prude/christian, too outrageous or just not "gooshy and starbuckian" enough. At one store I worked, this girl was forced to wear long sleeved shirts all summer to cover the tattoo's on her arm. This store had windows that opened to the patio so no A/C either. One manager told me that Starbucks does not consider tat's or piercings to be an issue of diversity-just a stupid life choice.I have heard a manager say that they couldn't find any normal guy applicants because everyone that applied was gay. #2-Failure and completely compromised. There are 6 of these crappy "principles"...these first 2 are my personal favorite. I could go on forever about the rest but I am not sure how much room I have left here...but this is why I am no longer a Starbucks partner.

I hate starbucks. They make it inposable to make a drink that we should be intitaled to make it cost $4.00 to get a caffe vanilla frap here and I just cant aford it. They are very adictive though. I just dont want to spend that much money for a drink. If anyone might know how to make one please let me know. Thank you.

The top three thing I hate most about starbucks are: 1. The american tourists that come in and announce loudly how glad they are to have found a starbucks because they wanted a "real cofee" (then they order a filter cofee). Surely the point of travelling is to try new things? 2. The groups of twelve year old girls that come in in large groups and all order chocolate fraps separately, and need to be coaxed to get the sizes, so it takes ages to serve them all. 3. Asking "do you want whipped cream on that?" over and over and over. Why do we need to put whipped cream on everthing anyway? We're only contributing to the mounting obesity crisis. I feel so bad when fat people come in and get whipped cream that I give them non-fat to help even it out. Other thing that help my day run smoother are telling customers that the muffins are fatty and/or three days old. (Both true) and giving free drinks to my friends ( they'll drink it if it's free). Giving cream chargers to some of my dodgier friends is always appreciated, and caramel drizzle is a popular icecream topping. For fun after close you can make the store look pretty by putting the CD's with Kate Bush on them in the microwave-sparkly lights. So I guess starbucks isn't all bad, only another six months before I get my degree and ship out anyway. If your not having fun at work, your not trying hard enough, just be vindictive and use your imaination. (Never give anyone decaff!!)

Starbucks? tired of the same old grind?? One of the perks of going to Starbucks is that you get to stand in long lines listening to endless, and boring, cell phone conversations all the whilst some nerd or peacenick is ordering his/her, \"love me a latte with a twist of the nipple of an African fruit bat and along with a splash of whale spit-with room for cream...of course!\" And, the over the counter \'I love my tips jar or bad service will follow\' is tantamount to panhandling at a traffic island in an urban intersection. I say, pay your freakin\' coffee interns a livable wage and take the damn tips jar off the counter! Moreover, rename the coffee sizes to small, medium, large instead of the faux classy names presently in use. \"...get me a Grande, Klaus, and don\'t forget the Venti for Sven and Heidi.\" You might add a new size too, let\'s call it the RFB aka real freakin\' big...about 32 ounces of your Christmas Blend with a few shots of expresso, so your might get some high octane caffiene.

Here in Portland, OR, we've long tried to - and sometimes succeeded - to keep Starbucks from opening in our neighborhoods, where independent coffee shops thrive. We just lost another one though - a Starbucks greedily opened up down the street from ANOTHER Starbucks, a predatory move which resulted in the closing of the independently owned Coffee A La Carte. God, I hate Starbucks. They're the WalMart of Coffee. Plus, they're coffee tastes like cat urine. And they won't buy Fair Trade in any significant quantity.

The thing I hate most about Starbucks (besides the coffee, for which we call it "Char-bucks" because it tastes burned no matter where you go) is the sizing system. Tall? Grande? Venti? I'm embarassed everytime I have to say those words. How about small, medium and large, 'Buckos? I know psychologically it's supposed to be more fulfilling to receive a "tall" than a "small", but it's such a faux European experience they're trying to create. And are we supposed to pronounce medium as "Grand" or "Grahn-DAY"? Sad....

wageslave- fair trade or organic coffees in general is starbucks attempt at showing people how caring they are for the farmers, the pay the farmers out a higher price than normal and a certain percentage of all organic sold is given back to the farms and their respective communities (i.e. creating better living standards or schools). the problem is the fair trade coffees according to the bucks loyal customers is "weak, like dirty water and not very tasty" to quote one in particular. the 20th of every month is fair trade day its on auto ship so your store should be doing it or you have a heavy supply of 5b bullets of the lovely FTB. in general the concept is good but the sales of the organics at least in my region were drastically over shadowed by the standard flavors (you all know the staples). so in closing the organics are a safety net for the giant so they can say that they help and respect the farmers and look like the caring company while at the same time exploit where they really make the money (the traditional blends) and don’t have to risk paying out unnecessary dividends to those who pick the beans. starbucks has gotten their regular customer base addicted to the bolder coffees and most of the organics are so mild that their would be little chance of a person who has gone into a starbucks 5 days a week and gotten a "venti sumatra or sidamo or kenya" being persuaded into them changing to a different less burnt coffee taste that benefits the farmers slightly. not that i doubt peoples intentions or desire to do whats right, but they are the sheep and corporations are the shepard’s which lead them.

This chain is the most responsible for the "lactification" of the coffee house. Their brews never get in the way of the sugary sweet coffee-flavored milk drinks. Peets has much better beans and a classy atmosphere compared to SB. The lack of attention to Fair Trade coffees and promotions is hypocritical and phony.

I don't hate Starbucks (I'll reserve the word "hate" for real evil, dangerous things like the Bush-Cheney Administration), but I do not like Starbucks. Why? Mostly because I love coffee and I think Starbucks coffee tastes horrid. It is bitter, and it is way too strong. Good brewed coffee should have a mellow taste. Starbucks coffee is always harsh, never mellow. Even their "mild" blend is "mildly harsh" and "mildly burnt-tasting" -- not nice and mellow. Plus, there are too friggin' many Starbucks everywhere you go. I try to patronize smaller chains and - preferably - independent coffee places whenever I can.

I cant stand people who work at starbucks and pretend to be your friend, So sweet and nice to you to your face then stab you in your back to your sm to make them look good. Its only Coffee. It takes $o.15 to $0.25 to make those damn drinks and they charge $4.00 and pay you min. $7.25 an hour and make you work like a slave. That it no reason to stab people in the back when you good as well know they are going to find out. That's such B.S. The customers are no better, they will rat on you for a free drink. Why do people do this? and to answer Simon its not sweetened milk its just the high calorie syrup they put in the drink with all its unatural flavors to make it taste like crap.

I just hate Starbucks' coffee. It's overly bitter, and I agree with a previous Starbucks hater who said it tastes 'dirty'--as if it wasn't filtered well. The only coffee worse than Starbucks' is McDonald's, but McD's isn't nearly as expensive, and is the antithesis of the pretentious Starbucks brand. I like the Fair Trade coffee I've had, and my two favorite "restaurant" coffees, Farmer Brothers and McGarvey's (you can buy both online.) My favorite coffee is fresh-roasted, 100% Kona. There's a lot of great coffee out there, but only two brands I avoid entirely. Starbucks and McDonald's.

not only does the coffee taste like crap, but some of the people that work there act pretty "crappy" too, sorry if I don't have your menu memorized, or that I'm not ready with my order, that's why I'm standing against the wall and not up at the counter. It's like the place has their own coffee lingo or something, when I try to order a large drink they correct me with venti, wtf, again, the coffee is crap, majority of the time I go in to Starbucks is to order a drink for someone else so don't get your apron twisted because I'm not using your retarded coffee lingo and I'm just speaking plain english. By the way love the site, and with the recent tragedy that just happened in Indonesia and it's neighboring countries, it might make Starbucks think a little about it's business over there, hell, hopefully it wiped out all it's coffe bean farms, or wherever the hell their coffee grows.

I am a firm believer that yes they are over priced, the coffee is not good and yeas as a personal trainer I can tell you it is not good for you at all!!! I have clients that walk through the door with some fancy latte from strabucks and they wonder why they do not lose weight. Just give me and old fashion good Tasters Choice black coffee with Slenda and the heck with those over priced preppie jerks.
