Jill, They won't give yo ua second cup - they will however, give you a grande customized drink in a venti cup. Another way to beat them is to ask for 2 shots of Espresso over ice in a venti cold cup and then add milk/cream from the condiment bar for a "Iced Venti Ghetto Latte". The difference in price is almost $3.50 USD

Oh stupid Starbucks. I am so glad that in about 1.5 years I will finally be able to say goodbye to this very bad companhy. My friends and I were driving around a city. They were all mentioning on how they saw a Starbucks every two blocks. I informed them that was because the line was so long in the morning and that in some cases Starbucks decides to build stores directly across the street. One of my friends said why don't they just increase their capacity. I told him that wouldn't make much sense. I sleep in a room that is about 20 by 20 and that is all the room any Starbucks basically needs for a front counter if you think about it. Anyway, I am rambling but I just want to let everyone know that Starbucks is very addictive and I can't stop myself. Oh yeah, if Michael Moore wants to do a movie about Starbucks, just let me know. I am sure Uncle Howie in Seattle would be very happy.

so i stumbled apon this site while trying to find some good trivia to post on our free coffe board tomorrow at a locally owned coffee shop i work at in boise. i'd like to consider myself a coffee purist, and for this reason i despise, loathe, absolutely hate starbucks. haha, the name makes me violent. but mainly, i just wanted to say that this site put a smile on my face, and it makes me happy that there are people who are not starbucks obsessed. seriously, just say no to shitty, corporate coffee.

You gotta love the pay and tips at Star$!!!!! oh yeah and the benefits too... I loved it so much I was forced to get another job, but to defy big brother I started working at another espresso stand 15 minutes across town at a gas station. Everything was working out fine, I get much better tips at the small espresso stand The con worked for about 4 months until a DM decided to fill up at the gas staion with his pansy boyfriend The DM wasn't even the DM at the bux I worked at, but he recognized me. He started making all kinds of calls, because of their rule about working another coffee job, and the next day I had to make my decision, Quit starbucks, or Quit the small stand Obviously I quit starbucks.....

Additionally. You know why I detest Bux, and Macca\'s and Kmart? Because my country is becoming so homogenised! I can get on a plane, fly to Sydney, or drive to another town, and landmarks are fast disappearing, replaced with multinational stores. Why go somewhere different when you\'re only gonna get the same?

What other employees ("partners") have written about Starbucks retail employment is true. If you have to call in sick, it is your responsibility to get the shift covered! Also, your hours will be cut so you won't get the health benefits. Crappy wages, crappy benefits, crappy job. If you think I am wrong, try working for Starbucks and see for yourself!

i've been addicted to starbuck's mixed drinks for years.this fact recently started bothering me because i wonder what besides a lot of fat, sugar, and caffeine, are they putting in these drinks perhaps. on another note, i am inspired by this website as a voice for disgruntled employees, and as a means to open others' eyes about bad business and maltreatment. I am so inspired that, as a public school teacher, i am wondering how, beyond "teacher's unions" we could get a website complied for similar reasons as your anti-starbuck's website. thanks for the inspiration...and any suggestions you have I'd greatly appreciate. As well, I thank you all for giving more reasons to persuade myself to give up my starbuck's addiction and start saving money. it's truly pathetic, isn't it...

I live in Australia and have never had a Starbucks coffee, I'd much rather go to the little Italian, family owned business down the road. However, I passed SBs the other day and saw they were selling coffee from East Timor. I went in and asked the girl behind the counter about it and said how pleased I was that a multinational was buying and promoting product from a country trying to get back on its feet. However, I am extrememly doubtful of how much SBs is buying, and then flogging it on for. I checked the SBs website (also how I found this one) and couldn't find anything on that particular bean. I did notice coffee from Ethiopa and other poorer countries. Is this just clever marketing? The Timorese cause is prominent in Australia and I was just wondering whether we are being manipulated. How would I find out about this? Additionally, the girl crapped on about how GOOD SBs is for doing this. Hmmmm. Had a good laugh about 'loose' by the way. Also, is your site sposed to be all black or is my computer just too old? Keep it up!

JILL: I know exactly what you're going through. I once made a grande extra ice frap. for a customer and when the supervisor saw me put everything into a venti cup, he said the customer was to get whatever fit into the grande cup because he ordered a grande-sized drink. It's complete BS!! What's the point in wasting it, when the customer will drink it and some of their "customization" which they paid extra for is going down the drain? I completely ignored him and whenever anyone ordered extra ice or shots I gave them all of the drink. Do you know how many drinks are wasted everyday by employees and customers? It's ridiculous of some baristas to throw the remainder away. Some customers caught on and instead of having the shots blended in the drink, the shots were poured on top and they just melted into the drink. So if you still want to patron the store you can do that. There's always a way to scam them!

Speaking of the supposed value that Starbucks places on the "partners," I had to relate my experience with Starbucks. I was recently "separated" (also known as FIRED in the real world) on my first disciplinary incident ever in over a year's worth of employment. During a slow period in the afternoon as I was changing over the pastry case from AM to PM, I tossed a bagel at a coworker. We always horseplayed at our store and this wasn't much different. But, when I threw the bagel, I did not see a customer sitting by a window behind one of the new "Hey, buy a $6.00 sandwich that isn't worth $.60" signs. The bagel missed the coworker and hit the window maybe thirty inches from the customer. We both apologized to the customer and gave him a Service Recovery Coupon. He laughed and smiled and all seemed well. So, then a couple days later, my manager said we needed to have a talk. I told him I couldn't because I was going out of town. He asked if I could come by the next day and I said no because I was going to be out of town. (DOY!) So he was supposed to go on vacation so I asked him, "Is this about the bagel?" He said yes and so I asked if I was getting written up and he said yes. So I asked if I was getting fired and he said no. Then he was gone on vacation for like a week and came back. We worked a whole shift together after he got back. Then, after I got off, he said, "You owe me a conversation." So, I was like OK and so that's when he informed me I was fired. I talked to our DM and she said that I threw the bagel at the customer and even though I told her that's not what happened she took the customer's perception over a partner's word. Needless to say, I wasn't given my job back (not that I want it). I think I was basically a thorn in the manager's side because like other people on this board, my manager was an idiot and lazy to boot. The schedule was chronically coming out no earlier than Friday, often times Saturday or Sunday. He has even called people Monday morning to inform them they were opening. I was also chronically scheduled outside of my availability. I would never try to fix these; I left it up to him because it was his fault. So, anyway, I was FIRED (not "separated") because of a bagel and a customer's opinion. So much for respect and dignity and all that.

Ok...so I'm a sellout because I work for the bux. I've done a lil research and I realize that the ONLY way I can justify working for them is the money. So...I'm going to make some money and get the f**k out of there ASAP. Thanks for all of your honest hostility...I realize that we live in a sad world where "the real poster child of terrorism is the hyper-commodified, increasingly cosmeticized American self."

I am so glad someone else hates Starbucks. Not to make my self come across as a hateful bitter person, but I also hate Home Depot, Wal Mart, and Dunkin Donuts. I love lots of things too, don't get me wrong, like fairness, economic responsiblility, a good deal, and a piping hot cup of generic (hopefully organic at least) cup of homemade coffee. I will buy fair trade when available, although if you really look into it, its not as fair trade as you would think. I can spend 3.75 on a pound of very good, whole bean coffee that makes pot after pot after pot of delicious elixir to sustain me. Why do people go to coffee shops that rip them off? Do they not realize they are being ripped off? I feel sorry for them, as I spend the money I save form not buying coffee at Starbucks on things like tax-deductible charity donations, taking my friends out for a beer, or art materials. Hey I just got a great idea: what if some one (like me maybe) were to propose a challenge: to put aside all the money they would spend on Starbucks coffee in 30 days and at the end of 30 days donate that $120+ to thier favorite charity or animal shelter? The reward for the person who donates the most: positive vibrations, good karma and a clear conscience.

I have worked at the Bux on and off for 6 years. In those 6 years the wages for retail partners has remained relatively the same not counting cost of living increases. I'd like some corporate honchos to come down to my store at about 6am on a Sunday morning and put on an apron and start making drinks for the 65 customers we get every 1/2 hour. I'd like them to see us keep the lobby clean every 10 minutes and fill out a Values Walk while waiting on the huge line, preparing 10-step Fraps, running out of milk, keeping dishes clean, keeping the pastry case full while adhering to the ever-effective new "deployment." We work like slaves for crappy wages. Go STARBUCKS!

Do you have any info concerning lawsuits. let me tell you my story. I "used" to to a frappacino (frozen) drink from starbucks. I would add "2 Shots" and "vanilla flavoring". most of the time there is some left in the blender, I ask for it also and it is given to me in an extra cup. The other day I "asked for the addidtional mixture in the blender" I was told I could not have it, I explained I've never had a problem before. I am told that the "other" "baristas" should'nt have done that. Can you believe that the starbucks Rep poured the excess of my drink down the drain and rinsed the blender out before she would let me have it.I contacted Starbucks and it was relayed to me that I only paid for 22oz thats all I get. I then questioned about the additional ingredients I had added to the drink and said I did not get what I had paid for because part of it was poured down the drain. I was then told it was my fault for "altering the recipe". I told the rep that they should not advertise "customize your drink" and offer additional ingredients. Needless to say this conversation was ridiculous and absurd so I ended it. I cannot believe that they choose to treat customers this way. I would now like to sue starbucks for false advertising and not giving me the product I paid for. I am also contacting radio personalities and consumer advisers hoping to get this ridiculous policy and flat out rip-off out to the public. Any infor you have would be helpful. Thanks, great site. After reading through tens of messages, I hope you all will be happy to learn, that this site has convinced me to boycott Starbucks. The stories told by current and ex-employees are to horrible to ignore. I advise Starbucks to take this website seriously and realize that these stories --in addition their coffee---has left a foul taste in my mouth.

To "Smarter than my manager" - I couldn't have said it better. The company's #1 priority is it's STOCKHOLDERS, next customers, next management and I choke as I even dare to mention that Starbuck's "front-line" employees possibly even matter at all. All you amount to as a retail employee is a "warm set of hands" to ring their cash registers. I came into Starbuck's company believing in them as a decent, fair employer and find myself at a loss for words in how to really describe them and there deceit to BOTH their employees and customers. Labor laws, safety rules and sanitizing practices are broken on a daily basis. It's ALL about number crunching instead of training. Getting THAT absolute last drop from each employee - doing the work of three people for the minimum paycheck of ONE. MANIPULATING employees while saving face to the public - just public relations. $tarbuck's is TOO big and greedy. I leave work daily feeling defeated and drained because no matter how hard you work it is not recognized, but instead more and more is asked of you under the most stress crazed enviroment. There's just "too many chiefs and not enough indians" - management is just concerned about moving themselves up that crooked, greedy and stingy corporate ladder - forget about ever receiving any training - there's just no time. We're ALWAYS under staffed and yet EXPECTED to perform without showing any signs of stress or wear and tear to their obnoxious, spoiled, arrogant customers. Starbuck's has proven they have gotten too large just in reading stories from this site. They have so many unhappy workers because their needs are not being met or heck, even addressed or heard- managers can't even make time for their employees concerns. That really leaves you feeling down and out on your job and ESPECIALLY used in their dead end scheme they have planned for you as an employee. They burn out their employees before they ever get a review - all the while shining in the public's eye from blowing their own horns about just how good they are to work for. EVERYTHING HAS IT'S TIME, and so too will STARBUCKS. (Remember years ago when McDonald's appeared invincible?!) You can't treat your employees as bad as Starbucks does and not feel that pinch - eventually they'll have a poor reputation to overcome, as McDonalds does and what seems TODAY like a bottomless barrel of future employees to hire from will dry to some degree. The word travels well with sites like this. Thanks...

FREEDOM FIGHTER: Good read, especially "the man sitting in for Al Gore." I think in FL, the raise was 20-25 cents, but that's still not enough to provide a livable wage, when baristas will now start off at $6.75/hr with tips in the range of $1.15-1.80/hr. and the average rent for an apartment is $600/month. Working 20 hours a week won't pay all your bills. Even shifts, who make $7.50/hr. and work 30 hrs. a week can't pay all of their bills. I understand why "seasoned" partners would leave since the pay gap between them and new employees is now smaller. And then they wonder why the turnover rate is high!

I've never known anyone who liked bux coffee. Sure, lots like the mixed concoctions but not the plain coffee. So why do people keep buying it? It really does taste bad. It doesn't taste as good as McDonald's coffee for goodness sakes! I think people buy the crappy coffee because bux has a "preppy" marketing scheme that makes people THINK they are hot stuff for paying $4 for coffee...it's the EXPERIENCE not the taste.
