I just want to thank you for a good laugh. My best friend works @ Starbucks. I, even though I must admit I hang out there about 5 days out of the week, find your site to be most ammusing! Way to go and keep up the good work!

I had a cup of SB coffee once about 4 years ago in Seattle. Haven't had any since. There is an SB a half block from my house. Its customers are some of the rudest, incompetent drivers and the slowest, unconscious pedestrians. But, I have to cut them some slack - they're probably brain damaged from drinking crappy coffee.

I love this website. It is nice knowing I am not alone in my loathing for the nippleless mermaid. I took the job at star*ucks because I needed those insane 4:30 in the morning hours so I could take care of a sick parent...nine to five didn't work. When my father died, I called in saying that I would be taking two days off..."Get someone to cover your shifts" Excuse me? Oh yeah, and the time was supposed to be paid time off...yeah right. So, I got cussed by the DM when I severed a tendon at work( on a fixture I had been complaining needed repair for months) and had to miss work for surgery and recovery time. Mind you, I stayed at my job til my shift was over, washed the floors, counted the safe and tills etc., etc...bleeding for over three hours, and I was shirking my responsibility to the mermais. I have had 4 surgeries for carpal tunnel...(Fun is working a full 8 hour shift on the bar...day after day)Don't let anyone tell you that you have to work that bar for two hours...30 minutes and then switch is safest for your own health...Stoned managers who spend their shifts in the office eating pastries and talking to other managers on the phone about their love lives....while you are in front by yourself for two hours. Understaffed...constantly...except on the one day a month that the DM comes in for his visit...managers going into the computer and changing your time so that they stay within the alloted budget therefore getting their bonuses while you lose money, oh yeah....fellow shifts who show up late every day, forcing you to stay late(which is why the manager changed the hours you worked, taking away your overtime),hey, why don't they get fired?( Oh yeah, they are the dealers for the store, got to keep them happy) i used to enjoy convincing regular customers that they were spending too much money there. One couple spent $12.78 a day...I saved their receipts for a month and showed them how they could buy a new car....which, I am happy to say, they did. I hated that people who needed insurance and were promised insurance when they were hired were constantly being screwed out of it....I hated people showing up to work half dead because they couldn't find anyone to cover their shifts, and the manager refused to work one minute over their 40 hours( I thought that that was what the manager did...he was available whenever needed) The stores are dirty..duh..when you are understaffed, there is no time to clean and god forbid you hire someone to do that...in a halfway busy store, a full time busser/dishwasher/bathroom checker would be a dream. Most of the time, If you send one person off the floor to do even the minor maintenance that needs to be done, you are left with one person to man the til, make the coffee and lattes, the fraps...and then customerws get mad because, guess what? It takes more time. But hey, the buck needs to keep its profits up to at least 30%, the managers and district managers need to keep their bonuses at peak level...and lets give our shifts and baristas a $3.00 strarbucks cards at christmas...(or a mini box of chai, that one was even better)Thank you for all of your hard work. We appreciate it. (Two sentences you will never hear uttered by anyone at starbucks above shift supervisor level). Smile...it's Snapshot time. I no longer work there, obviously.

Hey guys, It seems as if a lot of you have had very negative experiences with Starbucks. To be honest with you, I'm not surprised. I work at an SBux, and I *RARELY* go to other starbucks to buy coffee. Especially in the city, the kindness in the employees just isn't there, not to mention that because they're all so busy, they don't take enough time making the drinks, which causes them to, well, taste like crap. I make every drink as if I were making it for myself, and I know that sounds cheesy, but you wouldn't believe how many compliments I get from customers after they take a sip of their (insert drink here). Anywho, you guys are mostly right. Prices are way too high, and while they DO in fact treat their coffee growers VERY well, I still don't think it's enough. A few months ago Conan O'Brien made a crack at starbucks during his opening scene. He said; "Yeah, so Starbucks is now requiring 32 hours of training for new employees. Yeah, the first hour is teaching them how to make a cup of coffee, and the next 31 hours is for training them to charge customers $4 for a cup of coffee with a straight face." That sums it up pretty well...

supposedly the shift lead pay is increasing to 9.25 (so. cal) but i recently got a review and it bumped to 9.26. my stupid fat cow of a manger says that it's not going to increase like it did with the increase 3 months ago. i'm making 1 cent more than what a new shift would be making, even though i work my ass off...maybe i should blame the fat cow since she only gave me 1.5% increase in the first place. i hate starbucks.

Starbucks stands for we make tastless coffee while working for minimum wage putting up with customer inferiority complexes and the need to feel superior to a sorry person trying to make a living, while using "thank you" when you really don't mean it and all you want to say is "f... you" to all who think drinking an overpriced tastless drinks descised with syrops makes them coffee experts. Working for Starbucks means I have to put up with an ass of a manager who constantly yells snapshot and acts like a nerotic spastic on amphetamins. Never has anything positive to say and always tries to take you on a guilt trip about your performance. Oh and don't you dare say "I don't know because you don't. You are supposed to know and if you have been shown the wrong way well of cource its your fault you should have known better. Of course you can make mistakes but if you do make one you are useless pathetic barista who should know by now ... Would I correct the person that taught you the wrong way? Of course not "they" know how to do things perfectly. So "relax" "enjoy the experience" oh... and don't forget to put a fake smile and tell all manager customers and power thirsty partners how thankfull you are when your only earge is to grab a bat and not stop wacking them until there heads are just grafiti on the wall. At least then that pathetic excuse of a fake decoration could have a bit of style infused into it. Meanwhile the dressing code applies to all but women. They can wear no socks or short enough shirts to never be able to tag in. Your great bennefits only kick in three months later by which time most people say "f... that" I don't need the stress and leave. Not to mention that you need to work 21 hours or over per week but the company policy is to really keep you down at 15 or constantly cut your hours here and there so that you never really get to get anything. Oh and please we demand availability. Please keep the whole week open so that we can have you for 15 hours. Hypocrasy is our moto. We tell you we make something great because we know you don't know better because you just want to feel special and trendy and don't mind parting with your money. You are stupid I am pathetic for putting up with this shit for for my own personal reasons and Starbucks keeps laughing at our expanse

THOMAS: I hate those new machines. They are ridiculous, and the espresso isnt as near as good as it could be. I worked with the old ones for a good year and a half, so I know how to make good espresso, then I move stores, and run into these pieces of crap machines. They freakin clean themselves!!! I am embarrassed everytime I give out a latte, mocha, or anything. I just wish I could go back to the old ways... SPIDER:not to call you out, but I am one of the few that tries to do everything the correct way. I will throw out old milk/coffee, and stuff like that. Some of the people I work with dont, but the way I think of it...if someone pays that much, they better get something worth it. Oh well, life goes on...

(you remember the commercials) will open some shops up so it should be good competition if they open up in the right areas.

My last day of work at Starbucks was two years ago. One of my rather meager responsibilities I had was to place the orders for beans, syrups, and other stuff to stock. Well guess what folks: one gallon of mocha syrup is $75.00. So I stole a two gallons of mocha syrup; one for my friend who loves the flavor and one to decorate their bathroom with, two hours before I left. Pretty even bad for me; considering it was the easiest job I ever had.

it\'s interesting. i work at toys r us. i agree that corporations do create many problems for people, but i\'m not sure that smaller businesses are any different. it is a fact that i do not agree with the policies of many corporations to use people in other countries (pay them little, no benefits, ect). but many of these countries are also not helping their own citizens by not allowing them to make a living wage by keeping minimum wage low or non-existant. many times the companies that go into these areas, though definately not all the time, give the employees a wage above the very minimum in their country. another point to consider is that a lot of the time the reason these companies are so large is because they put profit over almost everything else. and that works - for a while. after a while however, they begin to fade out. good examples of this backed with a solid amount of info is \'built to last\' by jim collins. it deals with how companies that have certain basic philosophical concepts (which is what they are, but i think he calls them something different) last for long amounts of time. concepts beyond profits seem to matter more or most in the long run. over time someone shoots down the more problematic philosophies. this applies to any organization. i\'m curious - how many of you who are visiting this site cause harm in your lives or work somewhere that causes harm? m\'ttt

For all of those Starbucks employees out there, saying that we might have an ounce of jealousy for over-priced crappy coffee is ridiculous. I work in a little local coffee shop in Sioux Falls, South Dakota where we insist on serving quality coffee that wont rip you off. Don\'t you dare call yourselves Baristas when all you do is push a button and out pops a latte. It doesn\'t work that way my friends. Maybe Starbucks should teach their employees about making quality coffee and maybe presenting it with a smile. Thanks For Serving Us Crap!

Yeah, starbucks to raise prices once again while don and juan are down on the plantation working 16 hours a day for a gallon of potable water for their family. I guess it is our own fault for allowing them to create a monopoly by displacing all the mom and pop shops and buying the chains that posed a threat. Satan must be proud.

In downtown St.Paul, Minnesota where I work there is a Starbucks next to a Mom and Pop coffee shop. At the Mom and Pop coffee shop it's takes about 2 Minutes to get a roll and coffee and they only have one person at the counter. At the Starbuck's there are 6 people bumping into one another and doing nothing. Starbuck is so ritualistic... Starbuck's cut the comedy and just serve the Java.

We now have a starbucks located IN our church. Not next to the church or down the street, but IN THE CHURCH. I am not kidding!!! What used to be a small dining hall was converted into a starbucks. Is that wrong?? I think so. What do you think? (As if I need to ask)

If you r a frequent coffee drinker and cannot stop this habit, these are some pointers that I have noticed in the past: 1) Go to coffee shops that r not busy. Do not go to shops that r filled with ppl not just becoz u need to wait for long periods of time for the drink, but also becoz baristas tend to make mistakes more frequently when its busy. Mistakes such as, steaming the milk too hot, or serving old coffee becoz there wasn't time to make new pots, or mistakenly forgot to use decaf espresso for decaf drinks. Another reason for going to shops that are not busy is that it will most likely be cleaner, the baristas have time to bus tables and clean washrooms. 2)Another tip I have is for people who drink coffee black(no cream, no sugar), always ask for the freshest(is this a word) pot. The roast of the coffee doesn't matter if its not hot, even home made fosters coffee tastes better than SB coffee when they r an hour old. 3)some SBs are open 24hrs and some of them don't have locked washrooms for customers use only. One time I went to the washroom that found needles and tampons and shit on walls. Do not go to washrooms that they have no locks for washrooms.

Let me start off by saying, I think it's great that all of you express your thoughts and beliefs of starbucks on a web site. It is good to know people take advange of their right to freedom of speach. As a S.S. it does bring me down when I read all of your bad experiences. I know what it is like to work for a company that does not listen to you and screws with your sanity,(so to say.)I work in a store that is 2 months old, and as I read more and more of your stories, I hope I never feel the way you do. Not to seem disrespectful to this site or seem over confident, but if any of you had worked with myself and my parteners, you would have a completely different opinion of *$. To me it's not about the money or anything, It's going to work and having fun. I wish all of you luck in finding a job that makes you as happy as I am. A good job is hard to come by.

Hey. I went to the Starbucks on 16th and Walnut and let me tell you that store is terrible. I mean do those people even care. So I walked around the store and made a complete list of all the violations and sent it to corporate. I received about three weeks later some coupons in the mail for free drinks. I also had visited the store a few days before and noticed that it was better. Unforunately, the store still does not have a very clean bathroom. I feel like bringing my own can of lysol and paper towels so I don't feel so violated afterwards. If you are in the city of Philadelphia never, ever go to the Starbucks on 16th and Walnut.

Just wanted to say F**k YOU to all you coffee yuppies out there,Starbucks is a joke. Actually all coffee is a joke. Not only do I think its funny when I see you people walking around with your coffee in the morning looking like you have sticks up your Anus trying to "wake up" , but I get thoughts in my head of running over and driving a screw driver into your throat causing you to bleed to death, as you're waving hi with that coffee in your hand looking like most other people in society. have a wonderful day Im out there watching you ha ha ha ha ha

Hey everyone, glad to join the forum. I am a student at R.U. in downtown Chicago, IL. I am currently a 3rd year (but my credit hours say otherwise) I am writing a report on in my english102 class on Starbucks, and I am not in fvor of them either. A lot of good testimonies here especially from first-hand emploees (I had NO IDEA!) I have never gone to SB ever, there's one 2 mins from my apartment, and 3 mins, and 4 mins, and one probably 5 mins away. It's not that I'm against coffee, because I don't drink it much at all, but it's that I was too intimidated on their target to yuppies with too much freakin money to spend; looked like it was nothing but a load of snobby people and 'upperclass pro society fat cat Americans' - Sorry. If anyone has any online articles please throw em my way, and insightful facts via online that will help me soo much! I'm not looking for anything from you people, this forum is more than enough to give me ideas. I am certainly biased on the topic; I dislike them non the less, but I am in want of some proof. I think by one way in getting it, I'll go to SB in my nice pants and shirt, ordre something I can barely pronounce on the menu and pretend I'm a part of them.
