| totally pissed, consider yourself lucky, WE do open up at 5am at our store. so we have to be there for 4am, so I am up at 3am and sadly we do not. shut our doors till 11:30pm sun-thurs and we are open till 12:30am fri/ sat nights. hell, i thought i would be moving up in the starbucks world, was i wrong, we started training an outside hire for a DM position yesterday. it took me over a year and half to get to shift so I know our asst. managers were really stung by the news they had to train the new BOSS |

| I'm a starbucks widower...They insist that their managers work 50-70 hrs per week. Ah, but managers don't clock in or out...Interesting??? But by the time my boys and I got tires of having mom and wife gone all the time, she decided to turn her store into her personal dating service. I think we should do a poll to find out the divorce rate in the famous BUX company. They embrace all diversities, but don't don't support famaily values. The only last drop I care about is when they pour the last drop and people see the Fake they are!!!! |

| Dear Totally Pissed----are you getting your required rest periods and meal breaks, as Haydee had mentioned?
It must suck to work the 5 am opening shift, but at my store, the opening shift is 4:30 am and we open the store at 5 am.
All while getting 12-16 hours per weeks, and thus NO BENEFITS. |

| Competitor... Look... Let's keep to the facts here... Star*ucks owns Seattles Best and Torrefazione Italia, but they DO NOT OWN Gloria Jeans. Gloria Jeans was founded in 1979, they are an international company with almost 300 stores mostly located in shopping malls. Let's stick to the facts folks, there's enough about Star*ucks to hate all by itself. |

| So, I just get off the phone with a shift supervisor that I work with. He's cool - he's only been with the company about a month, but he works his a$$ off, usually over 50 hours a week, and he never bi^ches about much.
Anyway - so since our new manager started, about two months ago, we're now open at 11, every night, instead of 10 on the weeknights. Be realistic. This gets us out every night around midnight, and as we're getting busier and busier right up till 11PM, we're getting out later and later. Some of the slower SS closers are getting their people out after 1AM, especially when a partner who *sucks* is closing too. And we have a FEW of those. Imagine being you're average schmuck, and now you're stuck closing with a slow SS (who takes an hour plus to balance the safe) and a sucky partner. Now you're doing the floors, closing the bar (la mazzarco - NOT automatic), cleaning the bathrooms, doing all the closing dishes.. breaking down the coffee stations, wrapping the pastries, locking up the chairs.. all while the other person sweeps the cafe, and the SS is working with the safe. Total BS. It's three times the work, with one quarter of the help.
So, it gets better: NOW the new manager has decided we're going to open at FIVE THIRTY in the morning. Bad enough we had to be there at 5:15, for a pathetic "open the doors ten minutes early at 5:50" - but now we're open at 5:30 - and have to be there at 5AM. Who the F$%K wants to get to get up at 4 am to go work at Starbucks???
So, this week and next are entertaining, if you look at my schedule. I'm opening three times, closing twice this week - next week, I'm closing three times, opening twice.
What normal sleeping patterns? What is this craziness about being healthy? Who needs it? Sometimes I want to get up at 4 am, after getting out of work a little after 1. Boy, that's just awesome.
Do we get ANY say in the company deciding to change the hours?? Nope. Those of us with lives, school, other jobs, kids, families - do we get any opinion on how late he decides to keep the store open, or when he decides we should close?
Sure, Starbucks is making more money, staying open later and opening earlier, but are we getting paid more? Nope.
Man am I pissed. |

| To Mom of X-SS: I worked for SB for almost 4 years as a SS, and was fired just a couple days ago. After working half the day with my manager and assistant manager I left after what I thought was a normal day. About 15 minutes after leaving work my manager called my cell to discuss an incident that he said happened 3 days before. He asked me what happened, but I had no idea what he was talking about. He said the Dm had 2 statements from emoployees that worked that day and that since my story didn't match theirs I was terminated. Obviously I was devistated and couldn't belive that the partner who was my friend would say something that wasn't true. I called her and not only did she not give any type of statement, she had not seen or talked to our M or DM. Then I heard from another partner that everyone was instructed by our M not to talk to the said partner about her statement! I guess he figured that if no one mentioned it maybe she would never find out that they lied about her to get me fired. I don't know.... HR is investigating now. |

| To Mom of an X-SS: Yes they do fire SS's for ridiculous reasons. I was one. I got fired for being on a night out and dropping my trousers and mooning for the camera. no photo was taken. Nobody saw anything. My DM didn't like me and pushed for a dismissal. Friends I worked with were told that if they had any contact with me they would be fired. What other company dictates what you can and can't do on your time off? |

| hey,
reading everyone's posts i feel truly blessed to live in a place untouched by the corporate greed of starbucks. I live in Tasmania, an island state of Australia and corporate giants like starbucks often forget we exist...which doesn't seem to be the worst thing after all. We have some of the best independant cafes in the world...i would hate corporate greed spoiling that. We've only just got a Gloria Jeans and a Hudson's outlet down here and quite frankly i think one of each is plenty. So if anyone affiliated with starbucks is reading this, tell them to leave us alone...we don't want their american brand of tack here thanks.... |

| my bitchy manager's been sick FOREVER. recently she got some type of the measels...she has back problems cuz she's a fat cow and always bitching how sick she is b/c she has asthma. are those reasons enough to get her fired? couple of my co-workers are thinking about calling up the hotline and complaining about her, cuz the DM is being investigated about his unfair hiring process, so he'll take us seriously b/c he is being a dick too... |

| In response to replies to my previous message: First, if you re-read my original writing, you will see that I did not state that ALL stores were understaffed. My store happens to be "in the Name of turning it into a profitting store". If your's isn't understaffed, consider yourself fortunate. We do not always get OUR breaks ` again, if you do, consider yourself lucky. As for making $10.00 an hour, unless your being paid at sort of supervisor wages or including some mighty hefty tipping in your figures, it doesn't seem likely that a barista would be making $10.00 an hour. From what I gather from reading posts on this site, most baristas are averaging far less than that. IF life for the MAJORITY of SBUX retail partners was as "green" and pleasant as what you're claiming, there would be much less interaction on this site. The volume of varying contributors here, proves that there is much widespread DISsatisfaction among SBUX employees. We all speak from our personal experience within the company... :) |

| It's funny how people work for SBUX just for benefits. SBUX is on this promoting good health campaign and TRYING to have everyone participate to make you think they care about your health. I forgot the name of the campaign, but the whole thing is really to try and convert everyone to Kaiser. Why would someone even want Kaiser? They did this whole promotion so they can get a better corporate rate on insurance, do you think they'll pass on the savings? Imagine this, falling on a slippery floor, going to Kaiser only to find they can't see you for a week. Send me a job application. |

| I have been out of a store for about two months. Is it a new corporate wide policy not to write on drink cups anymore and to call out all drinks to the bar? |

| hey kelly:
U may hate sbux but you shouldn't support dunkin donuts either. They pay less, ignore labor laws, offer the bare minimum of benefits and there coffee truly sucks. Lets face it, most francises suck. At least sbux, company owned, tries to provide benefits. They just put poor managers in charge of million dollar stores. |

| I truly dont understand why we have to go back doing it the old ways.....calling out the drink to the bar and they call it back! And if the bar person calls it back wrong the customer can be nasty with you! You never win. I mean i dont mind the \'Old school\" way of the doing the drinks, but working there for over 6 months, i was tought to write it on the cups adn put it on the bar......im starting to lose it....... |

| I was previously employed with starbucks, and the district manager would not approve a transfer to a store closer to my house. I worked there for a year, and 50+ miles each way, per day, was not a good enough reason to transfer me. |

| One cafe' Latte' has more calories than three soft drinks. One "dessert coffee" frapped will trap as many calories in your body as a piece of cheescake. That's not what's wrong with the way coffee is presented to us by Starbucks. What's wrong is the rude employee who will do all they can to make your day miserable, and the filth and mess that's present in those stores. I wonder if roaches and mise house there at will... |

| Although i have never worked for Starbucks i have worked for there competition in the UK. If you dont like the customers then you have to get over it. Thats part of the challange of the catering industry. If a customer is being actually abusive then ask them to leave or really piss them of by telling them your not going to serve them and walk away! Tell the manager why you did it and they can tell the person above you and when the shit hits the fan your backed up.
otherwise whats the harm in giving things away for free its not your money or your back pocket. you'll still get paid the same if anythign you will get mroe tips. If takings = wage then worry but until then relax!!! |

| i loved my store in philly. what sucks is that i'm promised a full time job and a shift position, so i move my dumb @$$ out to arizona with a friend. nine hours a week? how is anyone supposed to live off that? plus tips out here suck, and my first week i get "talked to" because i'm not starbucks happy! and why do gay managers and dms have to hide behind their wife and kids? i used to love my job - but now sometimes i'd rather stick my hand in the sanitizer so i can be sent home! |

| To HHIStarbucksEmployee: Either you're very lucky to work in a Starbucks in which workers are treated with dignity and respect or you're just part of corporate/management and you're spreading propaganda or you could just be a Barista brain washed drone! I used to be that way until management stopped earning my respect. Do you have to work with shift supervisors who blame you for everything and are on top of you like a drill sergeant? Do you have a two-face DM or SM that promises to give you more hours next week/or a position and yet you don't ever see such promises? What about customers that curse you out because you refuse to break company policy and give out drinks without lids? How about seeing new DM's that don't know jack about Sbux yet send you home because you're not wearing a name tag!(only in NY!)? You tell me? Is all this worth it for $8 or $9.15(with tips added per hour)? You tell me HHIStarbucksEmployee! I rather be scrubbing their toilets for $7 than dealing with all of this! Too bad the busser job was taken. You tell me where are this wonderful Starbucks? In the Mid-west perhaps, or in someone's imagination! ;) |

| HHISTARBUCKSEMPLOYEE: What store do you work at? We were always understaffed, couldn't get anyone to cover extra shifts, and didn't take a "formal" 10 min. break. The only break you had was when there was nothing to do but wait for a customer.
K: I always wondered why people would go there to study and buy a drink every hour when they could just as well study at home and make their own coffee. |

| Why is it that even though I work for Sbux 3 days a week, they still cut my hours? For some reason they tend to send me home early, even though there are "newer partners" that are willing to go home early. My suspicion is that I make too much as a Barista ($8.00). I am $1 short to be a Shift Supervisor, to which I say NO WAY I AM BECOMING A SHIFT SUPERVISOR IN THAT CHAOTIC STORE FROM HELL WHICH IS AFFECTING ME PSYCHOLOGICALLY!!! The place is like "concentration camp"! I have never seen such a chaotic job in my life, not even in fast food! Am I the only person getting psychologically ill by the way the floor is run?! I am having job burn-out symptoms! My friends and parents are really concerned about me, and want me to quit such an awful job! I still have a couple of months to go. Wish me luck! ;) |
