| Coffee Numbers....
Salary of Howard Schultz Per YEAR: 5.2 MILLION DOLLARS. Think about it... you will never earn this much even in your lifetime. Patronize small businesses and someday, when you open your own business, they may do you a favor and patronize you. Yearly salary of Full time baristas: 17 thousand. This is Just .3% of Howard Schultz salary. NOT EVEN ONE PERCENT OF SHULTZ\'s salary is how much barista earns. Divide 5.2 million that howard receives by the 17 thousand that each full time barista receives per year. How many barista salaries does it take to make 5.2 million a year? MORE THAN 5 MILLION Baristas. That\'s right... howard schultz earns more than what 5 million baristas earn PER YEAR! Average Cost of coffee per pound as traded on the sugar, cocoa and coffee commodities exchange: 70 cents. Average cost of coffee per pound at starbucks: 12 dollars. PEOPLE: Reward individual entrepreneurs that want to make a dignified living. NOT A CORPORATE SYSTEM OF EXPLOITATION. |

| I spend about 25 dollars a week on coffee and I choose not to spend any of it at Starbucks. By instead choosing small, independent coffeehouses to patronise, I know I am directly benefiting the community where I live. Owning a coffeehouse is something that the average person can do. I personaly know the owners of several local coffehouses, they are good people who deserve their share of success. I don't know Howard Schultz or any other SBUX boardmembers, but I would say that they have had their share and more already. Unless Howard Shultz begins using his ammassed wealth to build low-income housing and libraries in the poorest areas, I prefer not send my 25 dollars a week to the wallet of one of the richest people in America. |

| Lucy Stools: Did they tell you that you are going to make 2 to 3 dollars in tips. My tips are only a tiny little bit over one dollar an hour and I work in a very nice urban area with lots of tipping. Maybe your managers are not as corrupt and do not steal tips. |

| i love your site. some one at work told me about your site and i thought i should check it out and see what you guys talk about...
I have been working at starbucks for a year now and i truly hate the rich people who come in and order drinks and act as if you are their servants and have to say yes to everything they ask... those girls who are not old enough to drink yet, with their louis vitton purses, blue tiffany shopping bags and the pink truck driver hats come in and order a tall, non-fat, no foam latte, throw their money at you and even give you attitude... oh how i hate them... and there are the old women who come in , cut in line and order a short coffee and when you say thank you, have a good day, they look at you like you are their servant and should not look directly into their eyes because you are not worthy!
love your site! |

| I think I've figured out a point of vulnerability whereby SBUX could be sued in a class action suit for firing people who have incorrect cash draw amounts. Anybody interested? |

| I've never had a good cup of coffee at starbucks. It's always bitter and rancid tasting. I've gone to a lot of donut shops and coffee shops in my town and they ALL make better coffee at about 1/4 the price. I guess if my ego needed propping up I would go to SB and order in SB lingo, pay 5 bucks, them pose around looking cool while I try not to spit out a drink that tastes like an old rubber band.
But since my ego doesn't need a boost I'll just go somewhere else and get more for less. |

| Two ways to get back at Starbucks... first, make your drinks at home people! Everything that Starbucks sells (drink wise) you can make yourself at home. Don't forget about the invention of the thermos. Secondly, with all of the baristas, shift supervisors and managers working so hard to keep the lines moving - do you think they even realize you haven't paid for that newspaper or pound of coffee? Trust me, I worked at a Starbucks for quite sometime and I never noticed anyone stealing... I didn't say they didn't steal, quite the contrary, it's just that I was so busy, I didn't even notice...besides which, if I or one of my fellow baristas had noticed it, we'd have been to busy to bother with them. |

| Lotus: I know Europe is more than just France and Germany. Not all Americans are Geographically challenged. I just run into alot of French people on the net.
Gary: You said, "The small population of americans that frequent starbucks regularly are symptomatic of a larger problem in American society" You better do some homework brother. It is not a small number of Americans....It's alot. I know alot of people making 8-10 $/hour that go there because they have been brainwashed and addicted to that Junk.
John: They will just raise the price to offset the rise in milk costs. And the idiots who go there will keep paying it. We Americans are chronically consumerized. |

| I was just hired at Starbucks as a barista. Reading all of these posts makes me wary of the whole idea of working there. However, in addition to making $7.00/hour, I will clear $2.50 to $3.00 an hour in tips, which has its appeal. $9.50 to $10.00 an hour isn\'t bad for entry level front line service work. |

| i was fired from the bux @ 3 months ago... since then, the old guard is being phased out, being replaced with incompitant, middle aged divorced hose wives turned lesbians. i still have connections ther, and can get free sh*t. and i do mean sh*t. i was ther a few days ago, singing in the parkinglot, playing my guitar, and making up songs about people dying of heart attacks due to too much starbucks... do i need a new hobbie or what? |

| So, our DM comes in one day and unexpectedly does an "in-store" snapshot and says the cappuccino we made him was too watery, heavy, and not hot enough! It makes me wonder... Are beverages "measurements" also done in Italy? Are "italian cappuccinos" served in 3 minutes or less? Hum?... P.S. STOP THE VIOLENCE IN AMERICA! DO NOT PATRONIZE VIOLENT ACTS AGAINST STARBUCKS LOCATIONS OR THE EMPLOYEES INSIDE!!! I am a good person and I work there too! :( Pacific protesting is OK as long as no one gets hurt! |

| Answer me this! When I left SB my partner number was removed from the system PRONTO!! Another partner who stole tips, and admitted she stole tips, is still in the system. I get it, she didn't steal from SB -- just the partners!!! How stupid of me. |

| As an x- hippie who is high up in the Starbucks chain, your letters inspire me. I agree with the sentiments written by Migrant Worker. Starbucks has changed from a company who used to care about the partners, to one who cares about money, and that is money everyday, including Christmas and all major holidays. You all know what it's like to run yourself into the ground because we are not allowed to put on enough partners to run the store. The system is set up by those who don't work behind the line. Corperate America is alive and well, sipping lattes in your local Starbucks. We are replaceable and will be when our arms and feet fall prey to our working conditions....peace |

| Have you all heard- that Milk prices are going up???
I sure do hope that it stays that way as it should hurt starbucks profits in some way. But partners beware- they will cheat you on labor hours if rising milk prices cut into their profit by too much. |

| Adam D. Fiedler, As an Ex Starsucks Supervisor I can tell you that management will encourage write ups for any little cotton pickin' thing to make the unwanted (by the manager) barista/partner want to quit. Sometimes they go as far as hiring another person and cutting the unwanted partners hours back to make you look for another job to survive. Find a new job that will appreciate you and your unique style. SBUX doesn't want unique they want Droids to look, act and talk the same. Sounds to me like this might be what is happening to you. Quit! It will make your life much happier. Starbucks doesn't deserve your survices any longer. |

| The reason why Starbucks is everywhere is simple... STUPID CUSTOMERS. I work at a starbucks and I would say that over 80% of our customers are repeat customers. They come in EVERY day to flaunt the fact that they can spend 5 dollars on coffee EVERY day while we baristas have to deal with the nearly minimum wage nonsense. Starbucks REAL wages are minimum wage- fyi- REAL wages are what wages are after you account for inflation.
Every day, repeat customers get on line and think they are better than everyone else because they have way too much money to spare. Five dollars for a coffee, and one dollar in tip- they would leave. They get on the coffee line every morning and think they are oh- so- well connected just because they know all the other sucker repeat customers that get on line with them every morning.
Customers don\'t go to starbucks for good coffee- as we all know, they use the cheapest beans available. They go to get on line with the same people they get on line with every morning to remind themselves that they are of a small group of rich people that can afford to drink there everyday.
The small population of americans that frequent starbucks regularly are symptomatic of a larger problem in American society- that a small number of people are so rich that they can spend a disgusting amount of money on caffeinated bean juice EVERY DAY while the rest of us won\'t even dare go into a starbucks because we don\'t earn enough money to pay their snobby prices.
It\'s as if Starbucks is now an exclusive coffee club for the rich, where they can drop by for coffee every day and be seen by the same group of rich caffeinated junkies that frequent this establishment on a daily basis. |

| on the subject of dress code...
jewelry: my piercings where "too big", not the jewelry, the HOLE! (zero gauge is pretty small)
on occasion i wore a pentagram, an ahnk, or an inverted cross. very small, very discreet. i was told it was offensive, and never to wear it again. 3 partners wore HUGE FLIPPIN' CRUSIFIXES (jesus, nails, the whole nine yards,...) EVERY DAY! i was offended...
and what does a lip, nose, eyebrow, or TOUNGE ring have to do with coffee? let me know if you figure it out...
shirt: i was written up for not tuckong it in. not that the effing apron didn't cover it anyway...
pants: i got bleach on them clean the wash basin. i was told it was my loss, and to buy new pants, my old ones where no longer acceptable.
shoes. i spent $40 on a pair of "regulation all black shoes"(this had to include the SLOE OF THE FRIGGIN SHOE!!!)i had to eat the cost...
hair: i was told to shave my beard off, after being told i could grow one.
tatoos: and art form older than organized religion, deemed innapropriate for serving COFFEE.
why did i bother?.... |
