I read in a post that Seattle's Best is owned by Starsux. Well being that Seattle is my hometown and my friend owns a drive thru stand and her coffee is delivered from SBC, I HIGHLY doubt that Starsux owns SBC, or Tully's or any other Seattle shops. The best shop in Seattle is called Espresso Vivace. They do the best latte art. Check out their site www.vivace.com

You heard they pay $10 an hour? Then it's your own DAMN fault! Every idiot that graduated from McDonalds knows that Starbucks is McDonalds Part 2 in the epic Loser fast food Trilogy: Lord of the Apron...

i've been a "partner" in the starbucks "team" for just a little over a year now. i applied for this job thinking hmmm...starbucks i heard they pay like $10 an hour. i was wrong.all i have to show for my 12 months of pure stress are clothes that continuously smell like sour milk and mocha and a paycheck that barely exceeds minimum wage, i make 6.85 an hour after my 10 cent raise. if it wasnt for the transfer program starbucks has and the need for college money i would quit.i think that 3 out of 5 employees ive met feel the same way, the other 2 are crazy, caffinated, annoying freaks.

You shouldn't work in customer service if you hate people. Work in a warehouse, load some boxes, work in the back, design graphics, do anything but customer service. If you are 2 and a half years at anywhere you hate, you are a fool. It's like being in a horrible relationship, just find something better and move on. Some people figure it out within the first 3 weeks.

What do you think of the official Starbucks "anti-Dunkin' Donuts Competative Strategy"? Are any of you assigned to this? How do they expect us to do this?

I've worked at Starbucks for about two and a half years... Let me tell you, the worst thing about it is the customers. They're rude, picky, cheap, and they never tip. They don't realize that the pay is so bad we rely on tips to get by. We can have a line out the door, I can be busting my ass on the bar, and people get all pissed that it takes more than 13 seconds for me to make their drink and leave without saying "thank you." RESPECT ME! Just because I work at a coffee shop to pay my own way through college does NOT make you better than me!

what do you do if your store doesn't give you tips and you've already been taxed on them in your paycheck?

I gave this awful company 5 wasted years of my lfe...i know, i know, quit whining...but i was very ill and needed the insurance. in one post, i can't even begin to describe the hypocrisy that is starbucks... a few words: idiot stroller mommies and their grubby children (and the obligatory dog and oversized strollers) nasty husbands of breeder wives leering at the opening in my top while their oversized SUV's burn gas outside parked in front of the fire hydrant. gahgah tourists in the city saying, "um um um i'll have a cappucino", and then come back because their drink is all foam. phony CEO's and their concern for the environment (bullshit!) Fair Trade Coffee--- the fear that the WTO protesters would bash the windows in so I had to stand outside and offer free samples. Those stupid green aprons. "Would you like a pastry with that?" Christmas music in November. Frappucinos (made with INSTANT COFFEE AND CORN SYRUP!)it's true. ---don't worry all, I got mine while I was part of the Starbucks "team", but two years later and 100 more Stabucks on every corner in Chicago, and I still want to stand in front of the doors, and tell people, "NO NO NO find a new accesory, have another baby-child to dress up in overpriced clothes, but DO NOT buy into it."

First of all, the largest you can be in the Starbucks world grande, what about us very large people? But seriosly, $9.95 for a cup of coffee? I don't care how good it is, its not worth it. Now don't get me wrong, I will drink their coffee, but they are overpriced and everywhere. Its pretty bad when in some places you can leave a Starbucks, walk across the street, and enter another one, and then go next store to yet another. Just think of the other businesses that could be located in the spot of one of there excess stores. Think of the countless people they have put ot of business, especially the small cafe owners. The list seems to go on and on. I recently heard a report from Howard Schultz that stated that since the economy has started to receed, Starbucks has been unaffected. What does it say about our country when our government is having money troubles as well as a lot of major businesses, but an overpriced coffee company is doing just fine? I urge you all, to one of those small cafes, or make your own coffee. Its not as bad as you think. Join the Rebellion

The best syrups to buy are Torani. They're are places where you can buy a bottle for about $4.00. Here is how I would make an Iced Caramel Mac for 20oz size. This is not the Starbucks recipe. It's really more of a Flavored Iced Latte. A few pumps vanilla syrup (each pump is 1/4 oz} and a couple either caramel syrup or I prefer caramel sauce (Ghiradelli), pull 2 shots of espresso and pour in cup. Now Starbucks employees, this next step is for you and should be noted, STIR, the syrup helps cool down the espresso, add 2% milk or any other to about 70% of the cup and then ice it to the top. If you ever see anyone pour hot espresso over ice for an Iced Latte or Iced Mocha, send it back, it's wrong. It only dilutes the espresso.

I once had a caramel mocha from starbucks and it gave me chronic diahorea for over 3 weeks. As a direct result my bathroom will never smell the same again and i am 3 stone lighter. Thanks for your time. Better rush off now, my stomach is making funny gugling noises again...

Hi, This is a great site. Can anyone please give me the name brand of the carmel and vanilla syrup/sauce Starbucks uses to make the ICED caramel machiatto? I'm sick of wasting $4 a day and i'd like to make it myself. Any tips and recepies for this drink is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hey, are there other managers out there required to keep a second set of books and collect information for their DM and RD ? Did you ever wonder why? Perhaps to avoid the tax man? Just my opinion. Why is milk classified as an expense? Go figure? I do know that milk is the most expensive component to a latte and if it were accounted for as say... a tax deductable expense or a depreciable expense by \"accident\" it would appear as if they were experiencing greater profits than they actually are. Just an opinion based on personal observation. Strange that I got fired when I asked my DM the same question without the snide remarks.

to Discrimination in Fremont, Reading aloud? There is a regular in my district who has a chemical imbalance which causes him to talk to himself. NOT a problem. He is a CUSTOMER. Get on the horn to the Customer Service and also to the Regional VP. Customer Service has to give you the name if you ask for it. Make sure someone gives you a case number and a phonecall back. Customers can sit in the store for as long as they WANT if they have bought a product. The only thing you cannot do, aside from lewd behavior - but that doesn't even hold to be true - is to sleep. That is a company policy that stores are told to enforce. If a security guard approached you to leave, that is sketchy. An SM, ASM or SS would have approached you to ask you to leave and only if you refused, they would then have followed policy to call the local police. Rent a cop was probably a friend of one of the employees and they thought they could get away with it.

Anything that comes of your meetings, Sam Wells will be involved behind the scenes. He'll tell you that you can sue the company but you won't win, yada yada yada. He will try to intimdate you. He's nothing more than an overweight, simple school-yard bully. His minions are afraid of him. He will tell them to tell you that you can sue, but you won't win so resign or fire, it's your choice. Keep in mind that behind these meetings are people who make a lot more money than the people meeting with you who are afraid of two things 1) being found out that they aren't doing their job and 2) loosing their salaries after being found out. Situations like this rarely get past the zone level if not approached well. Remember that it IS the responsibility of the people who allowed this treatment of you to have known about it and to have stopped it. It's in their job descriptions. Even if they weren't told, they should be checking for these issues. Trickle-up syndrome. The SM is covering for the DM who is covering for the RDO who does NOT want the VP to EVER hear about these things. If they do, it trickles up and up and up. Sam will have them target you on ANY security issues - Cash, Safety, etc. Hold your ground. Remember that them treating you like less than s#!t doesn't have anything to do with you being one minute late to work or $3.99 off on your drawer. It's separate.

Starbucks is a lowest common denominator brand. The coffee is okay, overpriced but pretty consistant. Whenever possible I go for a real coffee at a caffe in our city. (Cafe Artegiano, Abbruzzo, Torrefazione, or Chicco) If I am out of town I have the occasional Starbucks beacause I am never dissapointed... I know I am getting a mediocre coffe!

What is your shop called and where is it located? I would love to take you up on that offer. My header was too long so most of it was chopped off, it should read: DISCRIMINATION BY STARBUCKS TOWARD PEOPLE WHO READ THE NEW YORK TIMES ALOUD TO THEMSELVES IN FREMONT, CALIFORNIA Does anyone else have suggestions for a shorter, punchier headline? I am so livid at what occured that I want a protest where various people of various ages enter Starbucks with various newspapers from around the globe and read aloud to themselves and each other and perhaps discuss the significance of current events. Is there no place for this in FREMONT, CALIFORNIA? IF I GO TO A LOCAL FAMILY BUSINESS THAT HAS BEEN THERE FOR DECADES, THEY HAVE ALL THE NEWSPAPERS THERE FOR ANYBODY TO READ AND NOBODY HAS TO PAY FOR ANY OF IT EXCEPT THE COFFEE AND THE COFFEE IS BETTER AT MISSION COFFEES ANYWAY although it is more than a bike's ride away from where I live and I happen to like playing CHESS with a bunch of AFGHANI dudes old and young who converge there usually on Friday nights because they have no where else to go or do. I love this site by the way.

I am a reporter at a newspaper. a small newspaper in a 60,000 population town. i just got offered a job at starbucks, which is going to open in less than a month. I am planning to write an article about the training and my pay rate and everything they tell us. I actually put my real name on the application. I'm not sure how they don't know it\'s me, the same person who works at our local paper. i feel good that only 30 people showed up to their \'job fair\' two weeks ago, it\'s like a silent protest. well, gotta go!

So, a starbucks opened on a happening corner in chicago in a neigborhood known as Lincoln Square. Directly across the street is a cafe that has been around for about thirty years. After starbucks "grand" opening, the well known and popular cafe across the street had to hold a benifit concert to stay in business. The concert attracted lots of people but failed to make enough to stay in business. Maybe they should start charging $4 for a tall (which is really not very tall at all) drink or convert to Italian phrases for gourmetness. Who knows. After the announcment that the cafe, The Nervous Factory, was to shut down, a group of vandlous youth decided to take action. They organzied a weekly window breaking of that starbucks. Then, in a more organized plot, managed to glue the locks of over 75 starbucks around the chicago land area before they opened on a Monday morning. This prevented them from being able to do business for several hours. It made front page news in some papers and the nighly news held interviews with coffee adicts that were so desperate that they had "to resort to Dunkin Donuts" and that they just didnt understand why people would do such a thing. My suggestion is to look at the number of coffee selling establishments that there are in your town and consider how many of them have the exact same store only a few miles away and compare that with what it was like ten years ago. The numbers will be supprising and they alone will explain the bitter hatred towards the starbucks phenomenon. Overall, the vandalism has done no good. More and more people drink at starbucks everyday and the store across from the Nervous Factory never shut down. But the more vocal people are the better. Take for example the McDonalds in Pacific Grove California. There is only one and it is the only fast food chain in the town. It managed to slip in by a freak accident before the town banned fast food. After numerous acts of vandelism and protests, the Mcdonalds was forced to close its doors. people shoudl feel the same about starbucks and break their windows every once in a while. Hell, maybe they will get the drift and pack their bags
