| Hey Discrimination, if you're ever down in the Los Angeles area, you're more than welcome to hang out and read aloud at my shop. In addition to that, we also have FREE wireless internet access and no security guard breathing down your neck. I will admit that my people do get a bit chattie at times, but they tend to include the customers in the conversation to make them feel at home. |

| At approximately 1:15pm on November 13, 2003, I entered Starbucks in Fremont Plaza to buy a copy of the New York Times and order a large cup of caramel macchiato. I sat down with my newspaper and started to read the paper and drink my coffee while talking occasionally with someone on a cell phone and read quietly to myself since the teenage girls behind the bar were being very chatty and distracting my concentration from what I was reading. At approximately 2:45 pm, a minute after I purchased a cup of Venti Eggnog Latte, I was approached by a security officer named "L1" who apparently works for Atlas Security. She said that she has seen me there for hours and hours and it was time for me to move on. I explained to her that this was untrue, that I had not been there for hours and hours. I also noticed that there were plenty of empty chairs around me and that I knew I wasn't taking up any space that anybody else needed. I feel severely harassed and intimidated by what occurred and I would appreciate it if the manager of Starbucks named "L2" would not arbitrarily discriminate against customers who happen to read aloud to themselves because they can't hear themselves think above the loud chatter of about four employees crowded behind the counter (there were six Starbucks employees present altogether so I believe that two of them were perhaps managers). I hope that both ATLAS SECURITY and STARBUCKS understand something about the value of public relations and that the private citizens of Fremont will no longer tolerate being constantly harassed and intimidated by security guards in cohorts with the employees of Starbucks who can conspire to ask anyone to leave just because they happen to read aloud to themselves in public. Can anybody refer me to an attorney about this matter to discuss? I want to know what my rights are and what I can do about it. I was in there for ONE HOUR and they asked me to leave and there were a lot of empty seats. What is up with that? |

| Do you want to know the worst new starbucks idea devouring the local coffee shops? The great idea of a drive thru. If I wanted to work at a McDonalds I would've applied there but for some stupid reason I thought there was some dignity at working at this hell hole. And the best part is getting bitched out by my manager for not suggesting one of our "delicious morning pastries" to go with it. Hell if they have five in thier pocket, lets get another one too. That one starbucks makes more than a million a year and I have to ask if another douche bag in a mammoth SUV wants a crappy cookie (just give me a gooddamn tip instead). But thats starbucks, the beverage of choice for asses. An even better choice for people who manage to feel special and important. Oh but look out the window, look another Starbucks! Congratulations there boss. |

| Hey N/A, it's true that Starbuck's will take business from other shops at the expense of the shop it took from? The sad thing about all this is that those people who never had coffee or espresso before go to Starbuck's for the first time to try it and think they're living the good life by comsuming this stuff. Starbuck's is all about marketing, trademarks, branding and they fill in the blanks with an inferior product. It's all about perception and the people they brainwashed to believe it. Howard should be very proud of himself, he is doing the American thing in business, maximizing profits. On the other hand, he is backstabbing those that put him in his prestigous postion. When you have an established customer base, you always want to build on that with something better to keep them coming back. In this case, the product line has grown in variety but has diminished in quality. Starbuck's use to be know as gourmet coffee even though it never was, and now is no better than McDonald's which happens to have better coffee. What the hell does Howard care? He took a concept and made it a part of pop culture, made killing while taking advantage of farmers who don't even know where their next meal is coming from, forced and continues to force his way into communities that don't want his concept at the expense of similar family owned businesses by treating landlords like whores and has an employee base who has zero respect or him. If it were me, I would at least want my employees to know I am doing the right thing. Though all may not always agree, at least I would have earned their respect. Hey Howard!! Sleep tight. |

| Yeah... I hate 'em, too.
God will get 'em as FALSE PROFITS come Judgement Day.
I bet my over-priced (plastic junk) Starbucks Barista Coffee Grinder totally craps out just as soon as I hit the "Enter" button on this message, them being in league with SATAN and all.
Don't EVER buy mail-order from them with a friggin' personal check - I don't mind the 4 weeks "while the check clears" (yeah - like they don't clear at the speed of friggin' LIGHT nowdays), it's just the stinkin' 4 MONTH WAIT to get a stinkin' REFUND from them when you send 'em back their stinkin' foreign slave-labor-made lousy stinkin' catalog junk.
They don't care. Really, they DON'T CARE.
Rotten stinkin' Drug Dealers are all the same (except THESE guys don't even give you the first one free!)
Screw it - I'm gonna get even with them, maybe buy some of their stinkin' STOCK. Let 'em send ME some of THEIR stinkin' money someday. I hate 'em. |

| One day, I'm going to buy Starbucks, only to dismantle it --slowly :)
It's not that I've got anything directly agaisnt the place, I just resent having to hear people say things such as "How decadent", when buying our overpriced, overly hyped interpretations of a drink made of beans.
Besides, isn't decadence characterised by a state of moral stagnation and decay?
But money is still money, and because of the dollar conversion rate, we Australians receive a hefty $13 an hour--that's like 10 billion roubles! ph33r! |

Very well said, my friend! Personally, McDonald's doesn't bother me as much as Starbucks. They exist everywhere, and I'm not fond of them, but the concept of a fast-food burger place isn't as horrific as a fast-food coffee place. While McDonald's is well supported, everyone will still go for a good ole soda shop thickburger once in awhile. Starbucks, however, takes both business and loyalty away from other coffee shops. A person who may have been buying his coffee at a local place would switch over to a brand new Starbucks in a heartbeat just out of convenience and whatnot. It's just sickening to me the way that it takes over. BOYCOTT BOYCOTT BOYCOTT!!!! |

| Was doing some research recently on the net, and was horrified to discover that although Starbucks buys over 100 million pounds of coffee a year, less then 1% is purchased from coffee farmers that are guranteed a living wage!Think how much coffee that place sells, and how poorly they pay farmers and Baristas and you wonder how they are able to open as many coffee houses as there are people. Remember that Statistic from years back that there are more tin cans then people?-they represent everything that is wrong with the world and exploit people in the process.BOYCOTT THEM-THEY USE SLAVE LABOUR to make their double mocha semi-skimmed frappucino with cinnemon sticks for the rich. |

| Hey i would just like to say that i worked for Starbucks for THREE WEEKS and i couldn't stay there a minute longer, these people are right- Starbucks is slave labour and their "mission statement" is complete crap. Some of the stuff i've read has appalled, but not suprised me and i was more than happy to leave. I may now be an unemployed poor student, but at least i've got my freedom and sanity. One more thing- if Starbucks IS such a powerful and manipulative company, how come they haven't shut down this website? Just a thought. |

| You know something, I love this site! At the same time I find it sad but interesting that so much hate could be for one company. We all compare Starbuck's to McDonald's, but there isn't a site called ihatemcdonalds.com, I just checked. So why Starbucks and no one else? Are they the worst place to work for out of every company, or are they just an easy target? We know they lie, but so does every large corporation. Isn't that the American way to spin your product to look good no matter how good or bad it is? Can you believe they open an average of one store per day forcing their way into communities that don't even want them? How come they are the only company that faces so much controversy? I think we should also blame the landlords for spreading their legs like prostitutes and the public for being so amazingly stupid to patron these so called shops. |

| Most of us arent Starlucks employee's. Some were at one point and have a right to tell their stories about the way they were treated, low pay etc. It's called Freedom Of Speech. And we are expressing it. The boycott is very valid. If everyone that disliked Starlucks with their scandolous ways, and low pay, etc all went on strike and boycotted them maybe there will be a miracle on this. All of you have great points. |

| 4 yrs, 2 as a shift...its been good, bad, indifferent.
i would just like to point out to all the people who complain about what an evil coporation it is...i have friends working for nonprofits and ngos that promote exactly the kinds of causes that y'all rip on starbucks for not doing and that some of these places are not run much differently than starbucks, w/ all the backstabbing, lack of overtime pay, and promotions/firings thru sex, etc. people are people and most of us scew over the oppressed in one way or another throughout our daily lives. do what you can to fight the oppression, esp. if that means not patronizing an establishment you hate.
this invasion of europe on the other hand...i think i have to quit now. b/c human rights violations don't bother me, but desecration of Heidelberg's AltStadt...what's sad, is that's the truth. |

| When I heard about ihatestarbucks.com, I was excited because I truly do hate Starbucks. I hate its manufactured atmosphere, I hate its fast-food coffee, and I hate its takeover of local coffee shops. But when I visited the site, I was disappointed to find that all it was was a bunch of whiny Starbucks employees complaining about how Starbucks has treated them badly, been rude, payed too low a salary, etc. If you want to complain about Starbucks, take action. Stop going there. Stop buying their products. Get your friends to boycott with you. Discover the personality of local coffee shops. Don't just whine in front of your computer screen---stand up against the corporate evil, Starbucks |

| You are all missing the point, your complaining and whinning about how bad coffe tastes thus, you hate Starbucks, but by following that logic you should hate ALL coffee shops. The fact is that Starbucks amoung many, in my opinion, wrong practices uses sun grown coffee. Sun grown coffee is less expensive but it means that they are cutting down thousands of acres of rainforest to get their product. Coffee can be shade grown, along side the trees in the rainforest, but this option is more costly. For the majority of you, grow up and dislike something for valid resons, not just cause you don't like the taste.... |

| To:Lindsay-
There is a valid reason why people complain about making $6.70 an hour. Forget the tips, free pound of nasty coffee along with other crap. People with years of experience should not start out @ the same wage as someone with no experience. SBux philosophy sux. They put other GREAT coffee companies out of business and make treat their employee's crappy. Along with thinking their coffee drinks are made to perfection, but logically SBux has the audacity to get away with this. Just because they've made themelves the biggest coffee shop in the world by setting up shop across the street from others and paying landlords extra money to kick out coffee tenants does not make them right about everything........... They have over 7,000 stores and can only afford to pay experienced barista's $6.70 an hour?? |

| I'm just curious why one rarely sees any 'baristas' over the age of about 30 at any of the stores, and why those stores that I have seen few at don't stay long? The reason I'm asking is that my girlfried is 40 and the manager at the store she works at has been trying to fire her for utterly stupid reasons. I'm assuming partially becuase she enjoys her job and is good at it and the younger crowd feels threatend. So the manager feels she "doesn't fit in with the crowd". She also has a disability which they knew when they hired her, but now don't want to deal with. Are age and disability discrimination at Starbuck's common? |

| This site cracks me up- so Starbucks may not have the "Best" coffee in the world, who would expect them to? Everyone knows the best coffee is overseas anyway! People go to Starbucks for the environment and to socialize. It isn't always about the actual coffee. And why sould people complain about only making $6.70/hr? YOU ARE SERVING COFFEE- it isn't rocket science- plus you get tips and free products- if you don't like the free coffee , give it away- lots of people like it- Christmas shopping complete! So many other jobs pay less and you have to do so much more. Ans, if you don't like Starbucks don't go there, find somewhere else you like and go there. Problem solved. |
