Hey Coffeegirl!! Congrats on opening your drive-thru. If you really want to have the best coffee in town, send me your email address and I will tell you what I am doing. Trust me this, no one will come close to the coffee or espresso you serve. There's nothing in it for me, but your product will be more unique than anyone else, and you will be completely different. Others are just spin offs of each other, not mine.

i hate starbucks too. mostly because my store is the most anal store in the state. we are the most respected starbucks anywhere. our MOD's are mean heartless bastards who have nothing to look forward to their lives other than to work for 7.95 an hour!! i get barked at everytime for doing something 'wrong'. i get written up for the stupidest things that could easily be left alone. the office people give us all these bizzare rules and procedures that make it way harder on us than those bastards that are just sitting on their overpaid asses in an aircondition office. i could go on and on but i feel like im sayin the same thing that EVERYONE is saying on here. ok. bye now.

Dear Brooke.I`ve clearly offended or upset you regarding the fact they I have not put my name on my post, fair enough, though I can`t see how this takes anything away from the fact that I take pride in my work. And if you took time to read what I`d actually written, I did not say that the website was `sad individual`. I am assuming that you either do or have worked for starbucks as you express yourself as a highly knowledgable person as far as company standards are concerned, though it sounds as though you have some bad experiences by the tone of your posts. I appreciate that I have not read a great deal of your posts in particular, so in my defence, if you`ve not worked for starbucks I apoligise, but you have to understand that every store is different, as is every manager. For 7 years Ive worked for this company, starting as a barista, and Ive had terrible, mean, even 1 violent manager that even physically threatened me (and sadly I was NOT in the position to tell her to piss off), and every day when I deal with partners behind the bar I remind myself that I don`t want to be like any of those people. Its bad enough being spoken to like a piece of dirt from customers though when your manager speaks to you like that its very disheartening ( I still get that from my dm, though I fortunately don`t see her that often!!!)No, I`m not perfect, no one is, and I`m sure partners in our store would agree. My name is Adele by the way

just turned in my notice. What a dissappointing place to work. The customers were rude the manager a nervous wreck. All they care about is speed......so much stress for a lousy cup of coffee.

Finally I put in my notice. September 28 2003 is my last day. The lunacy has seeped into my dreams and that is enough. I don\'t care where I work but anywhere has to be better. I will repost after my last day and give you the dirt on my department. Keep visiting your local businesses and avoiding corporations whenever possible. Its the only way to put corps out of business..

As a former Star****s customer and employee of just two years, I have seen and been through my share of hell... -crappy management -legendary crappy customer service -managers stealing from the safe...he is still working for the company -every rule in the book broken...(wait, aren\'t rules meant to be broken?)from recipes to matters of respect and dignity -the eternal daze of 4-8 hour shifts of slave labor on the bar -entertaining my lunch break on the cash register (does a lunch breaks still count as a lunch break if your still clocked in???) AS A CUSTOMER OR EMPLOYEE, I HATE STAR****S!!! YOU HAVE TO HOLD YOUR EARS AND LET THE PASSING SIRENS GO, OR BE FORCED INTO THE ETERNAL DEAFENING RAPTURE OF A LOWLY COFFEE COMPANY. SELL YOUR SOUL OR RUN...ITS YOUR CHOICE!

I just wanted to say I am in the process of opening a drive thru in Seattle. I am nervous a little bit because Starbucks has chosen locations where drive thru shops have been and they have either been forced to close or find another location. It is not easy to just pack up and go somewhere else. I do not understand why Starbucks does that when they are EVERYWHERE.

Oh, one other thing, I applied at Starbucks not to long ago and they wanted to start me out at $6.70 an hour. And I have over 6 years of experience. They said that everyone starts out at $6.70 no matter how much experience you have. Well that is a bunch of B.S. One of my old co workers told me that she use to work for them and they had her working 80 hours a week and gave her no choice but to fire alot of employees which left her working all those hours anf for so little salary they gave her so she quit. I would think with all that money this "corporate" company has made they would not start minimum wage out so small for people who have experience.

As a former $* employee, I must say that this is quite the interesting little site. I have worked in the coffee industry for 10 years, was trained by an Italian Barista, and I have an intense love and passion for the brew. When the espresso business I worked at for 3 years moved to another part of the state, I was forced to look for a job in the depressed job market where I live. Alas, there was $*. At first it seemed great, explaining crema, talking about origins, all with a passionate facade. Soon after I began working for the diabolical $*, I found that there was no passion behind the company, there was just money and product, not explained well to the employees, shoved in the faces of the customers. (I must admit, the whole pseudo macchiato bit peeved me a great deal.) So, given the fact that I had more experience in my little finger than any other employee in my district, I was put in the position to move up in the corporate circus. The fact that I was new pissed the heck out of some fellow workers, and the set me up and I got fired for something that I was totally innocent of. There was no investigation. I was just fired. For an insane stupid thing that I wasn\'t responsible for. I hate $* now. The money hungry idiots are poisoning the world of coffee. It is blasphemy to have automatic/automatic espresso machines. There is no art left in the coffee. Everyone in our society wants their coffee like $*... and their coffee is crap anyhow. Thanks for reading my rant.

to the manager who didn't give their name, if you take pride in your work, why not give your name and why are *you* wasting your time on this "sad individual" website? Sarah, if life is more important, what is starbucks doing to make a difference in Israel? was the move behind Bill Bradley on the board of directors saving lives, not political?

Lizzie, a message for you. As a Starbucks partner for many a year, I am passionate about the coffee I serve. Customers pay a lot of money for the drink they are about to receive, so I strive to ensure they receive the best quality beverage. I take pride in my work and as a store manager try and encourage that behaviour within the partners at our store. If you want uniqueness a) why have you even entered a starbucks and b) why aren,t you in the independant coffee shops instead of wasting your time on this website. No, Starbucks Coffee may not be the best ever job I have ever had though I choose to be there as do thousands of other employees. Its YOU folk that come in and pay through the nose for your brew and I appreciate that, because as customers, you can complain about Fairtrade, the price of coffee, supporting local independent traders, etc, I could go on though all I need to do is remind myself that I take pride in what I do and you lot pay for my rent, my holidays, for my partner to go to university, for me to buy new clothes and food and the computer to write this message on. So, come to think of it bitch and complain all you like at about how McDonalds like starbucks is,though for your own sanity and principles just stop going there, or even going on this website you sad individual.

Hey $s slave, I am not aware who Sheila is or any cell phone conversation. If I did, I would certainly tell you. I don't mind telling you where my store is, but I prefer to do that private from this forum. If you have an email address, we can continue this conversation and see if I am who you think. Let me know. My reason for the confidentiality is because of the small handful of private shops in the area.

Just to clarify, the Starbucks in Isreal were closed because of suicide bombings, not a political move. Sometimes life is more important that coffee.

When was the last time you asked for the nutritional info of the pastries and fraps? The fraps are basically corn syrup, the pastries are from hell. :) I don't hate $'s but I am just there to get by while I attend school. I believe that quality is important, but they only care about speed. The regulars are so rude, mu bf (who doesn't work at the bucks)wants to beat the dirt of someone who is always giving me a hard time. Veddiamo doppo

i think the main problem with starbucks is the mass production, all you get is cheap coffee served by an automaton who is just a cog in the wheel of a capitalist stronghold. Starbucks is to me a pivitol indication of how society needs to change. I want uniqueness and difference i want to support people who work for themselfs so therefore care about the product they create. Starbucks is just taking away everything we should embrace and replacing it with over produced non caring repetitive droll. Each starbucks is the same another sheep following the other its a senseless corporation whose main concern is money its cheap its tacky its everything i hate just another Mcdonalds hiding behind its pine furniture. Support independent traders the ones working for themselfs to be happy to live to support their families not just another faceless corporation.

Hey out there--this is ranting from down below at corporate-- Things are . . . uh, unpleasant and getting horrible. The bad job market has apparently given Starbucks some opportunities and our employer has decided to take covert advantage of the huge pool of desperate, overqualified, "I'll do anything for you and put up with everything I won't have a life, I promise" job applicants. To do this they gotta make room for the "shiny, new and grateful" without a growth in head-count. Corp is actually aiming for a sizable REDUCTION in labor costs while the company and the paperwork piles grow at an incredible rate. Some biggie shared the labor cost goal in a presentation with lots of underlings in attendance and, believe me, the HR (oops, PR) trends and new performance review scoring (1 to 3, rather than 1to5) were suddenly put into very clear context. Lots and lots of corp partners without current political protection are being targeted until they "voluntarily" resign (saves on them thar unemployment costs, looks better on paper for the company) or they are outright canned. HOWEVER, in our area nothing is currently shaking for the incompetents at the management level--no matter how dumb you are, or how unqualified to work with people--you stay while the bloody hatchet swings at the non-exempt levels. We seem to be accumulating quite an extensive collection of salaried idiots. True, a few of the pinked really weren't doing a decent job and should have been out the door a long time ago, but . . . the decision on who to axe has very vicious political "spin and smear" undertows. If you are vindictive and always have a few personal vendettas percolating--this is truly a fulfilling environment for you now. Hard work in your written job description is a really stupid stragegy--you need to devote your working hours to protecting your back from the knives of your co-workers while manuevering to destroy same and some on the side--why not, you're on a roll, ain't you? This company is still really "young" and unfortunately still has very sensitive, easily hurt "feelings" to go with that yummy, hard corporate amorality. Thanks for letting me spew . . . these postings are really interesting!

Compeditor- where is your store? is it in santa clarita? I'll tell you why some regulars are treated better than others- it's their attitude. I have a regular that comes in every day and is rude every day. Do you think he has ever gotten a free drink? Then there's the regulars that come in and say hi and swap stories and TIP. They get the better service and they get the occational comp drink- so sheila was probably the rude girl on the cell phone and never tipped. That's just the way it goes- tip for good service!

Look, *bucks is not the workers paradise that corporate would have you believe. It's also not the neo-nazi black plague, hell bent on global domination some of you make it out to be. It's just like any other company, they sell a product for way more than it's worth, they want nothing more than to eliminate the competition, they misrepresent the quality of goods they sell and they sometime cheat employees. (Deferred overtime is a big problem at my store for others, I personally have never worked more than 35 hrs in a week.) They have a BS mission statement. Their real mission is the same as any other business enterprise in history, to turn as high a profit as possible. It's fast food coffee, nothing more, good or bad.

hey, i'm a barista for *$'s and was reading these postings.... and i have a couple of things to say just because we work for starbucks, doesnt mean we like it i for one hate it so much that almost everytime im there i want to stab myself in the head... the messed up part about it all is not that i hate the company itself or my managers or anything, what i absoultly hate is the soem of the customers.....some days i feel like just telling all of them to get the hell out!!!! of course there are exceptions, and i really do love people, i do but how is it my fault if there are only three people working a closing shift, and we get an average of about 100 customors an hour??(i work in a busy store)and it takes more than 2 minutes to make ur friggen decaf triple grande non fat extra hot latte?????!!!!! firstly, it takes like a minute to get ur drink up on the bar, and another to get it ready, and another to make it properly, because i know how much it sux to pay that much for a drink only to have it badly made,, and taste horrible.......and by the time its done, ur off some where so it gets cold, and someone else 'gasp' picks it up and takes it then 15 minutes later u come to me and complain that its not there!!!!!! then while i have like 9 other drinks to make, i have to put urs in front and make it again....then i get hell from other customers thanks, and thanks again, u know for treating us like 'people' man half of u guys treat the homeless people beggin outside better then u treat us and of course we have to smile and put up with ur ranting and raving ii may not be the greatest job, but it puts a roof over my head, and puts me through school so please, if u dont like starbucks, then dont come in, because i know half of u that r comlaining r still customers... make it easier on the both of us please
