| I am a shift supervisor. When I was promoted, I recieved my raise on the first day of training. My friend also works for the company at another store and is being/has been promoted. She has been working shifts as a supervisor doing ALL of the supervisor duties for quite some time now(2-3 months), yet has not been given a raise. I do not think she will be recieving retro pay either.
It is my understanding that it is common practice at her store to "promote" somebody to supervisor but not actually pay them until it is within the budget.
My question is: Is this acceptable practice within the law and/or corporate policies? I think my friend is really being abused. |

| Starbucks does franchise outside of the US, so Bill might be right- but I tell you- if I made 176,000 a year as a manager- I would be kissing *$'s a**!!! Although I don't know of any store manager, director, etc that makes that much.
Supervisor- I love you!! Your soooo sweet! Too bad you got screwed too!
Yes- RN did have an affair- we all know it. Its kind of weird that the manager she did have it with has been left alone for so many years in the same store and hasn't been fired- everyone else in the district has quit or been fired. I also thought it was interesting that 2 store managers got to take a week off to go on that vacation. Do you know how hard it is to get a week off as a manager? Yet, he got to go, and so did his friend, and she didn't say a word. |

| What do you think about incompetent shift supervisors, Tammy...I mean, since you used to be a shift and all, I thought you might have an opinion.

| Starbucks is a horrible employer! Its a thankless job. Partners are overworked and underpaid. And they have such an ego about them! They think that no company would ever think of competing... No consumer would ever think of going anywhere else... And every partner is "privileged " to work there! Yeah right. Got news for ya Starbucks - No, the universe does not revolve around you!!! You are NOT the glue that holds the world together! ...And you have the worst management I've ever worked for!!! I've never known a company to be so out of touch with reality... sad really.

| I'm a former partner wondering if you can relate to these questions: Why are SBUX managers so lazy? Do you ever feel way under- valued/appreciated? Ever get tired of the hypocrisy when it comes to all that Mission statement b.s? Ever feel like SBUX thinks it can buy its partners off with so-called good benefits, then not have to treat them fairly while on the job? Why does SBUX have a tendency to treat this job like its harder than it is (I mean, really, you could train a monkey to do what our managers do!). Ever feel like SBUX is a dictatorship? Or better, a cult? Why are SBUX managers so immature? Why so much drama? Is this not the most unprofessional company you've ever worked for? And why do they always insist on "sitting down and having a conversation" when they want to talk to you? What's wrong with standing? And why does everything have to be a "conversation?" And, finally, how do they manage to brainwash to many people (both customers and partners) into believing that SBUX is superior? And aren't you sick of the micro-managing and policy nazis????????????? The 10-second hold time is just for espresso! The world will NOT end after 10 seconds! Its okay, really.... Just LET It GO! |

| This is so amazing! spending the last few hours reading over these entries has been so enlightening!! I can\'t BELIEVE how brain-washed they had me!!! I\'m a former shift supervisor who quit after being quite disgruntled for being treated so poorly and finally getting the royal slap-in-the-face treatment from my DM. When I quit, I almost felt guilty... like I had let SBUX down.... like I couldn\'t follow through on my commitment to them. What a crock! And I\'m a college grad! I have to say... their brainwashing tactics are quite refined! And I thought I was the only one who had to put up with so much &*#&... Its refreshing (though unfortunate) to see that so many others went through similiar experiences. I #*&%@( hate SBUX!!! Sit on a 5-lb bullet and spin Schulz! |

| the state labor board would have information about providing uniforms.
uniforms are an added cost for some companies and some companies pass part of the cost on to the employee. i worked for a restaurant where i was required to buy my uniform from them and when i left, they paid me 1/4 of the price to buy it back from me.starbucks bypasses this by the bulk aprons they purchase.if stores are firing people for this reason, then they should be firing every *single* employee of starbucks who doesn\'t have their shirt tucked in.FL employees need to call the attorney general\'s office. my old manager didn\'t require us to tuck our shirts in because she didn\'t tuck hers in.and belly shirts-please!why are the male managers\' stores always the ones with female employees wearing those? |

| In reference to "Ind. Coffee Shops needing Sbux" the fact is that is false. Although Starbucks made coffee a trend in our pop culture, many of the other shops were long satisfying their locales and providing that which Sbux promotes vigorously "the third place" Starbucks takes very monopolistic business practices to eliminate competition with established regulars. While taking over is good business moves...it also becomes illegal in it's extremes. Starbucks is en route to eliminating in the coffee industry what America preaches the most...the right to a choice. As far as firings for blasphemous reasons...I understand there is a store in FL where employees are facing termination for shirts that get untucked during shift. Throw in the various arm movements, high reaching, the builds of different people, understaffing and how volume affects your ability to pay attention to your attire's behavior, that is ridiculous.I had trouble keeping my shirt tucked after trying to reach high bottles , the apron alone tugs at it. Does anyone have any familiarity with legal regulations on where a company must provide adequate uniforms when they stress a strict dress code and it's employees have difficulty finding articles that matched code due to size or build?
Any information or where to look would be great on this detail. |

| Tammy, they won\'t refund any money unless it is a cash transaction with a receipt. the reason for drink coupons, store credits and send checks is so that the money that has already been paid to starbucks by the customer stays in the company.as well as refunds show up on reports for the manager\'s dm to see.if the dm sees money going out of the store, they want to know why!a drink coupon or a partner beverage shows up as an employee stealing or good customer service.for fun, offer the customer a send check next time and see what the manager says.customer service follows up with the customer on all send checks and dm\'s follow up with the managers who gave them out. |

| Slightly Bitter Barista, do you get any support from you managers about rude customers? i think the best thing a company can do is show their employees that they are most important, not the customers, and the customers will catch on and treat us right. did anyone sign the \"just say yes\" sheet?i think that is humiliating and worng. |

| Yes, Starbucks is the devil and overpriced. But nobody is forcing anyone to go to Starbucks and pay $4 for a cup of coffee. If you\'re angry about spending that much, be angry at yourself for wasting money.
And as for the service: When someone is especially nice or polite, I turn into Ms. Friendly Helpful Barista because I want to make sure that nice customers come back. But if someone is rude to me or impatient or disrespectful or otherwise treats me with less dignity than I deserve, I have no motivation to work at getting that person to return to my store. Quite the opposite, in fact. One less rude regular is not going to ruin my store\'s success: there are plenty more customers willing to overpay for their coffee. That\'s the beauty of working for a big, evil corporation.
Don\'t get me wrong, I\'m not openly hostile without provocation. I\'m just being honest. I greet all customers with the same smile and a polite hello or good morning, but if a customer is rude or nasty to me, I don\'t feel that it\'s worth sacrificing my dignity to bend over backwards to serve him or her. |

| It is possible, to own a Starbucks, but I can't imagine someone, a manager, making that much money unless..............!!!!!!! So, do tell us, Bill, please.
A qualified high volume/high traffic retail or foodservice operation can own and operate a Starbucks licensed store. Examples include: large hotels, hospitals and college or university campus environments. For additional information about bringing a leading branded store to your location, please call 1-800-447-1575 x 85200.
Who would want to own a Starbucks store, anyway????????????????????????????????? |

| Q: Does Starbucks franchise?
A: No, Starbucks does not franchise to individuals.
However, in situations in which a master concessionaire or other company controls or can provide improved access to desirable retail space (such as an airport), the Company may consider licensing its operations to such a company. |

| Bill-
Starbucks isnt a franchise, its a corporation. Managers cant make that much money, I think $170,000 marker would be a starting sal for a CEO. In addition; if your store makes that much per year, thats pretty sad.
Plus, you cant loose a franchise because you own it. |

| The Fail Labor Standards Act. U.S. Constitution 13th Amendment, TW=TP, Federal wage and hour laws. The manager or shift supervisor must first discuss each adjustment with the partner before noting the adjustment in the log book.Every punch edit must have a corresponding entry in the Punch Communication Log.Never adjust the punch summary report without contacting the partner.Federal Law does not require employers to provide rest or meal breaks. However, when breaks are provided, Rest breaks must be 5-20 minutes and paid. 5 hours of work gets two 10 minute breaks, 6 hours of work gets 1 meal and one 10 minute break, 7-8 hours of work gets 1 meal and two 10 minute breaks.Even if work is voluntary or on the way home, partners must be paid for all time they work.Unauthorized work off the clock must be paid.If any break is interrupted to help out, the partner is given a new full break which erases the interrupted break. If a partner goes overtime, they must be paid for their time.If you did not punch for a meal, the manager cannot assume you took it and adjust your time without your permission in the log book. |
