| I just want to say.... MAN IS IT TOUGH battling with sinus infections, when you get so sick, with chills and a fever, and you cant even breath out of your nose. But your still suppose to help that customer..... that customer... PSH WHATEVER... If any of them were REAL people. they would say "hey... thats not right that boy looks so sick... he makes my lattes three times a day... it sucks to see him in pain.. wheres his manager. he should go home, I like him" YEAH RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!. I've seen partners's recieve news on their shift that their parents died, and had to go right back out on the floor, while crying, making "that customer" their drink, because the manager is "skimping our labor" to get his/her bonus... I wonder what it looked like being a customer, recieving a drink from a crying starbucks partner *crying* "half-caf tripple grande peppermint nonfat with whip white mocha. thank you " *sniffle*.. WOW... I wouldn't even drink it, id be more concerned with what was the matter. But imagine that, someone being concerned with you or your personal wellbeing at that place. Its for the birds. |

| Unfortunately I work for starbucks, and have for a year now, but hey, i'm in college and need the money. Our store is right in the middle of a gigantic outlet center in Lancaster, treating us each holiday season with arrogant, snobby, shopping sons of b!tc#*s from NYC and NJ. Nothing pisses me off more than a customer who tells me i don't know how to do my job, or "they've been getting their damn caramel macchiato since before i even worked here." The other night I handed a lady her over-priced venti caramel macchiato through the drive-thru, and she asked why it wasn't full. Since she obviously had no clue in her simple, ditsy brain how we make the drink, I pleasantly explained to her about the layer of foam on the top through which we pour the shots and on which we layer the caramel sauce, and thus why the drink may not "feel" full. Well.... she. lost. it. completely flipped out. don't know what i said, but she was irate and would not let me hear the end of it. i offered to remake the drink (what would actually be making it the wrong way); i offered her two service recovery coupons...she refused my attempts at reconciation. "Just give me a phone number. I want to speak to the manager," she insisted. So I helpfully jotted down a number on some receipt paper, handed it to her, and watched her screech away. She's gonna lose it when she dials the number and gets the local Planned Parenthood Agency. |

| Hi there world... it is great to read these posts! I never worked at a starbucks [skcubrats!:)] and wasn't too fond of their coffee shops. I just don't understnd why anyyyone would pay $$$$ for coffee (that is way too strong and unhealthy in the long run)!! All the "building experiences -- memories, etc." are lies!
I am curious... how is it that several posts here are by employees at stbks?! Did you have some expectations from the brand before you started working there that was thrashed after you worked there?! Do you guys now feel alienated by the brand or angry with the brand?!! |

| A Starbucks has just opened in my small town. With a population of about 11,000 and promise of growth, I'm sure they think its a perfect opportunity. Our town had about 5 independant thriving coffee shops, and already 2 have shut down. THIS IS MADNESS! Our independant coffee shops are wonderful, and already our community is shunning them for the horrible, overpriced sludge that Starbucks pumps out. BOO STARBUCKS! I will not participate in mindless consumerism. -Kate |

| It's so refreshing to see that many of the people posting here are Starbucks partners. I myself am a Starbucks partner. Anyway, here are the things that I hate about Starbucks:
- the shifts that are assigned. in order to have a half-hour break, you need to be working 5 hours or more. If you work less, then you just get a 10 minute break. And so many times they will give me a 4.75 hour shift, then ask me if I could stay 10 more minutes, basically leaving me 5 (and many times 1) minutes short of working 5 hours. Basically, I'm always ripped off of getting my half-hour break.
- My manager is a jerk. And, he's never fired because the reason he's a jerk is because he basically rips off the employees, therefore saving the company a lot of money.
- The culture it has created. We have these customers who come in every damn day, and they're all these pretentious terds who treat me and my co-workers like 2nd class citizens, and we have to put up with it because of the "always say yes" policy. So in a way we're forced to encourage this disgusting behavior.
- the fact that the company is trying to make itself look like this total philanthropic assosiation, when they are just as bad as every other corporation. It's extremely hypocritical.
- If an employee is sick, they can't just call in sick. They have to call every single employee from the store who isn't working that day, and many times partners in different locations to find somebody to cover the shift for them. If nobody is found, the sick employee will have to show up, or just get a load of $h!t from the manager.
and last, but not least
-their coffee sucks. |

| Tired of your current job/career? Open a coffee shop to compete with Skcubrats. That's what I call them- Starbucks backwards. Some ideas for you:
-Offer free cell phone charge service where people who let their phones die can stop in and charge up (you get the double meaning here).
-Offering Wi-fi? Why not sell techie equipment, power cords, laptop cases, etc.?
-You're a locally-run coffee house, support local musicians. Let them sell their music/mix tapes, etc. Play the good stuff on the overhead speakers.
-Kids room. You probably don't want a bunch of screaming kids running around, but it might be possible to have a separate room chock full of educational toys where parents can bring their young-uns and still maintain the decorum of your main area. Or flip it- make the "main" area the kids room with other rooms where adults can go.
-Open mic nights! There just aren't enough of these anymore. Who wants to listen to some regurgitated song written by Whitney Houston but sung by Jane Doe Who Sung at a karaoke bar? People bring it to open mic- music, poetry, creativity.
-Local artists- save some money on your decoration costs and help the local starving artists showcase their work.
-Parle what you currently do into the shop. I'm a web programmer, so if I was going to open a coffee shop/house, I'd probably either offer my services, teach classes or create games for my customers to play on my website.
If you open a coffee shop, let me know, for the love of latte, I want to come!

| i currently work at starbucks international airport in sydney australia. i think the bussiness conduct is very poor. my store manager is abusing me verbally mentally and emotionally. he refuses to give me the number of my district manager because he is afraid he will get the sack. today i have a meeting with him and he wants 2 ive me 2 corrective actions. i am going to refuse to take them... if starbucks is going to let my manager keep his job then shame on starbucks and shame on the "mission statement"and shame on all the people who will support such evil actions. |

| I'm a starbucks partner, and I'm glad I'm not the only one sick of them! Finally, a place where I can vent. My big problem is the "just say yes" policy. Which means, do whatever it takes to shut the customer up. That can mean making a very complicated drink three times over while they glare at you with their arms crossed, or pout "stop taking your sweet time" as if I can't hear. I'm sorry, I make coffee, not your wildest dreams come true. So do me a favor. 1: Use your manners. 2. Don't demand anything. I choose to make your drink and I can choose to make it decaf understand? 3. You are not the king/queen. Just because you can say "decaf, double tall, 2 pump sugar free vanilla, skinny, latte" and know what it means, mean's NOTHING to me. I'm not impressed, in fact, I think you need a time out from Starbucks. 4. I don't have to smile at your baby so don't be offended if I don't think its cute when he hands me the money. 5. Never tell me this "Honey, I've been drinking this for five years and this ain't it right here" because while I may have on a manufactured smile, I'm really thinking about how I can splash steamed milk on you. I've only been working there four months, and already I'm beginning to loath a society that struts around like Paris Hilton just because they have a green and white paper cup. Down with Starbucks! |

| I have had repeated incidents of harassment that I have documented on my PC with one of my ASMs. Recently it has stopped, for the most part. Yes, she is rude, but I'm over that. `At this point what is bothering me is that I've closed with her two nights in a row now and several times previously. She insists on getting out at LEAST half an hour early each close. Which basically means doing a shoddy job and serving expired coffee. Tonight I closed the lobby down and she mopped the floor for me. Or rather, she slid the mop around a little and got the floor wet. It looked pretty bad, and I said, "I know this is crazy and I'm sorry, but I usually mop certain areas more because they show dirt more and there's a lot of footprints etc. on those areas." She basically told me to shut up and that "we are getting out of here." I understand we only have a certain number of hours per week, but I really do not feel comfortable with this arrangement of doing a crap job to get her out early so she can have a freaking cigarette. Not my issue, not my responsibility. It is my responsibilty to do a good job, not to get her out early. But how can I when she won't let me? Advice? |

| 4 to $5 for coffee?! 7-Eleven has better tasting stuff for approx. $1.25! Make sure to try 7's French Vanilla and Pumpkin Spice flavors. Also, people just go to Starbucks because it's Starbucks and want to be seen. Starshmuck followers are blind pinheads who are paying for propaganda (i.e. - Tall being small) and a "cozy" environment, not coffee. |

| Not only does their coffee taste awfule, but they use give the cows that produce the milk for their coffee horomones that break essentially just break down the cow. Also pull the calves DIRECTLY off their mothers and give them milk replacer that has cows blood in IT!!
They could choose to buy organic milk, but instead use this milk that horomones in it that can cause cancer!

| I am a shameful Starbuck's drinker...I bow my head in shame.
They have crappy coffee and yet I persist in paying for the sludge because it's convenient.
Independent coffee shops rise up and save us from the hell of a Starbuck's republic!! Because if you independent shops were on more corners I would would happily pay for your dark brew and leave generous tips!
Okay so now I sound like a freak, but what can I say I love coffee and hate Starbuck's =) |

| What happened to the partner mission statements? This company is becoming more and more like McDonalds who hire just about anyone. Those corporate pigs only see numbers and not the partner morale and welfare don't they? All Regional and District managers who's been hired from the outside should work at the busiest stores atleast twice a month to see how things are. Take that pigs! |

| So I use to work at Starbucks and was Shift lead... They begged me to be a ASM (assistant manager) which I refused because the pay difference wasn't that much for the responsibility. Our manager ended up quitting and we didn't have one for about 6 weeks... during this time.. myself and another Shift ran the store... we won the incentive for the district without a manager and showed how good the workers were at our store.. to reward us.. they gave us a manager from HOME DEPOT.... this guy comes to our store... not knowing how to write cups... make drinks.. place orders.. anything... and of course we have to help him.. so we do... after about 6 weeks he starts picking on me over the other shift leads because everyone listens to me over him... he yells at me on the floor about a snap shot that I wasn't even on the floor for... I was in the back doing tips and another shift was on the floor in charge... so I gave my 2 weeks notice cause I couldn't take the abuse anymore.. it turns out that after I quit ... the manager said I stole drinks... and did all sorts of horrible stuff... I don't' even drink coffee, I have never put so much effort into a shop as I did there... not for the company.. but for the people and look how I was repaid... please don't let this happen to you |

| Hi! I've recently become aware of a wonderful coffee from Rwanda - it's the best I've ever tasted! It's distributed by a co-op called "Land of a Thousand Hills", and each $10 bag contributes $3 back to the Rwandan economy. Growers also get a certified "Living Wage" for the coffee, and micro-loans are provided to individuals to help them start their own businesses.
I'm trying to help get this coffee into upscale hotels & restaurants. Right now, they mainly sell through churches. I'm trying to compete, on a very small scale, with SB. I don't enjoy SB coffee either... |

| Our local starbucks (no capital s on purpose,)has been open for 2 months in a brand new building. The doors are so heavy a Handicapped person can not enter! They are almost 3 times the weight required by state and Federal law! Repeated contacts by the Handicapped Advocate, the city and customers have been ignored! The only alternative we have is to file a Federal Lawsuit to force them to fix the doors. Lawsuit filed! |

| I actually don't hate Starbucks, in fact when I want a sugar rush instead of coffee I go there and get their fraps, I seem to take pride in ordering my drink in their lingo. When doing research on coffee and the current market, reason for this is because I am opening a store that will be in direct competition with two Starbucks locations, I came upon the anit-US military press that Starbucks received. What I found most interesting was the response made by corporate Starbucks, they stated that they do a lot for the military and quote "Each week Starbucks partners (employees) receive one free pound of coffee. On an individual, grass roots level, many partners (employees) in the U. S. have collected their free coffee and shipped thousands of pounds of Starbucks coffee overseas." (this quote came from http://www.starbucks.com/aboutus/pressdesc.asp?id=684&rumor=true) So I thought right after reading that "How exactly does this make Starbucks the company a supporter of the US military? Now maybe they are, on the same page point 3 it says they donated 100s of pounds of coffee to a military vessel, but how do they justify using the goodwill of other people to boost themselves? Sure they employ these people but I am sure that they employ many people that would steal, rob, and murder, it is just a fact of society that you will get those type of people too when you employ as many as Starbucks does. And, yes, Starbucks does "give" the coffee to the employees or "partners" (which this is a total misuse of the word partner in a business environment, do all employees get stock, does Starbucks go before the Stock Exchange and say we have X number of partners, uummm no) so back to giving the coffee, that is just simply a perk of the job, I don't think that Starbucks in a normal setting would care if the employee donated it or force feed stray animals with it. In this case I bet they were happy as hell that employees took it upon themselves to be charitable, because now they spin it and use it to save face in the public eye. This is a disgrace and frankly pisses me off; I have yet to go back to Starbucks since I read that. |

| Ahh, good to know there are other thinking beings out there. Support startbucks and flock with the masses of brain-dead pathetic consumers. A bit harsh maybe, but nah. Who in their right mind pays WAY too much for a shitty drink and thinks nothing of it? Literally "stupid" Starbuck's goers of course. There take that Starbuck's, you royally suck (for many more reasons that I don't have time to mention). And a thank you to the web designer who so graciously allowed me to vent on this fine day. props. |
