| Hey Mint, nice posting, I really like it. A couple things you mentioned I wasn't too sure of. You said you tried Starrbucks with other coffee and there was no difference. I would hope there was a real difference unless it's Folgers, Yuban or Sanka. If another coffee house is serving the same thing, they need to get better stuff. Just to let you know about the music thing, Starbucks can only broadcast in their stores for what they have rights to. If they only licensed those songs, that's all they can play unless they're public domain, which they may be. If they place songs that are not licensed they need to pay BMI/ASCAP royalties. |

| As a former "barista" as they like to call themselves, here are some of the reason why i hate starbucks.
1. Is it justify to charge $4.50 for a mocha? Milk is pretty cheap, and charge people $4.00 for a cup of chocolate milk with whipcream is pretty extensive.
2. Drives small business out of business. Mom and Pop business are there to survive and make a living. Meanwhile, starbucks is like a parasite. They spread and spread and suck the life out of the community. Starbucks claims to give back to the community, and in a way they do through the min. amount of slap-stick publicity stunts. Although, they(Starbucks in a way is wise not to do public advertisements to promote their "Public awareness".
3. The coffee starbucks claims to serve is very fresh, makes me question how "fresh" it really is. Consider shipping time from origin, manufacturing, storing, packaging and distribution to store. How fresh can it really be? I've asked friends to do a taste test with different beans (one being starbucks and the other from a rival company) Difference is NONE! Heck, and on top of that, none of my former co-workers drink coffee. (Except for management) Whom happens to like Americano.
3. If u get fired at one, u'll get blacklisted and never be able to find employment at another starbucks.
4. If they own u money after your paycheck or dismissal, u might as well kiss that money goodbye. U'll never see it again.
5. The retail merchandise is x2 the price of normal retail. Who in the right mind pays $6.50 for 24 teabags or $45.95 for a french press. Ikea sells them for $20.95.
6. I have to admit working for starbucks gives u far better bonus suchs a medical and prescription coverage then other mall jobs. Although, being a fulltime student, I was never able to make the min. hours per week I needed to get extra coverage.
7. The bad music and the decorations always did me in. How many hours can one stand listening to the same CD over and over, and forbidden to put other music on unless it was from the "right company"
8. The pastries are alright, but be aware of stores that rarely clean. A few have been known to have termite problems :) *yummy*
9. There is nothing wrong with small, medium, large and extra large. I was told by management to say it properly back to the customers, so they know what they are getting, learning, and enjoying the Starbucks(tm) experience. (Yeah, right)
10. I am not giving people my retired partner number. |

| First, starbucks coffee taste like s$%t, second they move next to all the mom and pop local coffee shops that actually have good tasting coffee and undersell them and put them out of business. If thats not a violation of the sherman antitrust act then I dont know what is. Starbucks should be shut down. DOWN WITH THEM!!! |

| I'm sorry. But for those people who claim that starbucks provides for those laborers who can't put food on the table... Starbucks COULD take a SMALL percentage away from the worker's christmas bonuses and maybe those poor SLAVES would make almost MINIMUM WAGE... but no, bc it's LEAGAL outside teh U.S. they'll milk it for all it's worth and work those poor people to the bone just so that they can put their label on families all over the world. I think all of you are with me when I say DOWN WITH STARBUCKS!!!! |

| I have only been here for about a week, and I know we all have one thing in common, but some of these postings are amazing!! We must have all been the best at bagging on people throughout our lives. Kristina, your remark about American coffee and it sucking compared to Europe is not valid. Coffee is only grown on the Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn, and Starbucks coffee is all imported. There is nothing American about their coffee, just the name. Kona coffee is known as the second best coffee in the world next to Jamaican Blue Mountain. Guess where Kona coffee is grown? |

| Starbucks Coffe is disgusting!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok, first at all I have to complain to that person, i don't know his/her name, however this person said:"...and appreciate that you can actually get a cup of coffee in America where in other countries it's even hard to get a piece of bread.Sincerely,Shocked employee" Ok, first at all: getting a cup of coffee in America is easy. But, I personally think American Coffee sucks! Have you guys ever tried coffee abroad? Just for example the coffee in Germany and France (which is nothing different than coffee from Columbia or where ever they pick the beans for it) but this coffee is just awesome. And then great America tries to compete against Europe with their something something they call coffee at starbucks...YUCK!!!! Well, I am from Europe and I can just taste the difference and my conclusion since i am in America:
Starbucks is discusting, unhygenic and sucks!!! |

| starbucks sucks. first of all, coffee is disgusting. however i do like hot chocolate. my reasoning for hating starbucks is: they have grown way too big. there is a local coffee shop in my town. now a starbucks is moving in down the street. guess whats going to happen. starbucks is going to steal all of the business. the same thing happened in another town near my home. i hate them. |

| I hate Starbucks because they are the worst company in the world to work for. I am a student and worked for them because I needed the money. I quit last month and after waiting a whole month for my P45 to start a christmas job I still had not receievd it. When I called their corporate office to check on the P45 I experience the worst incompetence I have every had in my life. Apparently Starbucks keeps no record of anything they do. They were not able to tell me if the had sent out a P45 because they just randomly send them out not keeping any kind of record. The person who I talked to not only could not tell me if my P45 went out but was apparently didn't no how to write or was physically incapable of writing a note for someone to send another one out. Even if they had sent one out they had my address from the first time I started with the company last summer. I had given my new address to the store I worked and it was on their records and on my leaving sheet as well but apparently no one at their head office can read either. I shall be talking to the Citizens Advice Bureau on Monday about them. |

| I hate Starbuck's for two basic reasons:
1. The coffee tastes like pig swill.
2. Whatever _isn't_ coffee is insipid, wasteful land fill. |

| Mmmmmmmmm........Love your style! New Zealand is witness to the creeping corporate world of S.B.'s.
Genuine avid cafe dwellers will seek out a cafe even if they are travelling. Let the average punter enter the S.B. gates of legendary shite espresso, for these are the ones that will endure the 2nd class service and product.
Sheep are synonomous w/ New Zealand and they have more class and use than a managed hell known as S.B.'s....be a sheep if u wish....

| Barista King, You may be right about Pepsi, but I did know they were in bed together somewhere. I am sure Jamba Juice fits in the sheets too given in many situations they are right near each other. From the time coffee is roasted, it has a two month shelf life maximum no matter how it's packaged. After two months, you might as well drink Folgers, because there is no difference. Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf give their beans a nine month shelf life by showing a roasting date and expiration date, and that's way too long. Starbucks just says, from the last bag of beans I looked at in November, good through March 2003 and had no roasting date. Some of their beans don't have any date whatsoever. All you have to do is smell some of the aroma from the gas release valve and realize the smell is somewhat of a stale burned cigarette smell. Those beans were at least three to six months old. I am not sure if what they serve is the same as the beans they sell, but that's whole other conversation. I will stick my neck out and say that even though they change coffee every twenty minutes, doesn't mean the coffee is any fresher than before. It's all based on when the beans were roasted. You comment about me thinking all customers are stupid was kind of harsh, but I will admit that they are not as educated about what they are consuming with many different products. Just because Starbucks claims to have the "Perfect Blend" does not mean it's perfect. Your reference about the cleanliness is to blame on the employees is a poor excuse for a company of this magnitude. They are so good about dominating the industry, landing prime locations, penetrating the market in every way possible, branding themselves and putting others out of business, but they can't keep their stores clean? I don't buy it!! Literally! |

| I have no love for The Buck after three years of working there. In fact, I have retired my partner numbers for good as of this past summer. My only question is to the folks who have a problem with business competition. If you can get people to buy your products, you should. Isn't that the point of business? As far as The Buck taking local businesses out, all they have to do is show up in town. I don't think they have a team of analysts and strategists dedicated to taking out the juice and coffee bar down the street. It's a fun thought, but not very conceivable. Unless someone out there can inform me otherwise... |

| Competitor, I dont know where in the world you are getting your information, but Starbucks is not owned by Pepsi. Pepsi does bottle there products, but thats about it! If you go to Burger King and ask an employee if he likes the Burgers I guarantee you that they will say they are sick of them and go elsewhere. A friend of mine works in The Tavern on The Green, one of NY's best restaurants, my friend is totally sick of the food they serve there. I know in my local Starbucks they throw coffee out every 20 minutes, even if the pot is full. I have seen them do it. Plus as I have been drinking coffee for many years I know what burnt coffee tastes like, I have never experienced that at Starbucks. As far as cleaning, I agree that many Starbucks are dirty. The tables arent clean, the Milk bar isnt clean. Thats the fault of the employees. "Most people go to Starbucks because they know what to expect no matter how good or bad it is." You are opening your own coffee shop? This statement tells me that you think all the customers are stupid! Your comment made no sense. I do agree that they are expanding too rapidly and will become like McDonalds, BK, Wendy's. Actually they already are like them. |

| Barista King, Starbucks does not want competition because the want to be the only option for those who want coffee or other drinks. They are a marketing machine which by the way are owned by Pepsi and will do whatever it takes to put other shops out of business and make their stores as convenient as possible to consumers. I happened to go into a Starbucks last night, (I did not buy anything!!)I was speaking with some of the employees and was amazed to hear what they were saying. First of all, most people work at Starbucks because if they work only 20 hours per week, they get benefits, and the benefits are good. However, one person told me that they don't like the corporate ethics they practice. It's all about putting the competition out of business. When I told them what I am doing, they told me that before they go to work at Starbucks, they will come to me to buy their drinks because the drink they serve are not good. One person described the coffee as tasting like ash. That's because they over roast their beans to keep the consistency. Most people don't realize they are drinking burned coffee, that's why many people complain about an upset stomach or diarrhea. Also the lack of clealiness have lead many people to think they don't always clean their equipment regularly which may harvest bacteria causing upset stomach and diarrhea. Most people go to Starbucks because they know what to expect no matter how good or bad it is. McDonald's was never good, but look at how it's done. Starbucks will ultimately end up like McDonald's on an accelerated course. McDonald's has finally reached it's saturation level and is now starting to close stores overseas. Starbucks is opening a store per day on every corner so their saturation level will come much sooner than McDonald's. I am not concerned about the quality of my drinks, because it's already there and given Starbucks size, they will never have that type of quality. |

| Competitor, why do you say that Starbucks dose not want competition? If a competitor fails its do to poor product or poor marketing. Hard to blame a corporation for producing a product that people want to buy. Its the public that puts small mom and pop shops as well as larger companies out of business. I think its great that you are opening your own coffee shop. I would like to do that as well. Roasting beans on premis! Anyway good luck! |
