Ok, a new day has dawned on IHateStarbucks.com.

| Our bastard of a company is now making us register our tips with the IRS as .50 an hour. to me, as a partner, this seems as utter bullshit. Come on now do we really make THAT much in tips to begin with?? If they paid us a little more I wouldn't be complaining but the fact of the matter is they don't pay us that well to begin with. I don't know about everyone else but starbucks is barely paying the bills for me. It is just one more way our comany is screwing us. |

| I recently moved to Toronto and had never before been witness to such a pretentious gathering of coffee drinkers as the Starbuck crowd. It is almost laughable. When I want a large coffee, I want just that. Great site! |

| shiftking--.53!? your manager must be talking about controlable conntribution, I'm talking total.I dont know any stores around here that can turn that profit, maybe in Montana or another area with low overhead .I can tell you in my district the highest store's total contribution is about .25 on the dollar. There is also alot of crap to deal with but that goes for any corp I've worked for. Tuition reimbursement program goes live in the fall of 2003 hopefully.
P.S.209--Sanani costs the stores about $7.60 a pound, house blend 4.80, but beans are also one of our highest profit items, why do you think we push bean sales so much? |

| i go to $tarbuck$ a few times per month ONLY to watch the trendy land rover driving yupps with ponytails talking on the cellphones ordering their special \"run on name\" drinks. It is truly a trip to witness this highly gamey atmosphere. |

| JJ...I don't know what you're talking about. My manager has come to me flat out before and said that we're putting 53 cents out of every dollar through to the bottom line. That's 53 cents pure profit out of every dollar, which equates with what 209 is saying. SBUX makes wonderful profits clearly, hence the relentless expansion and the strong performance of the stock. That sounds like a busy store that you worked/work in. 3 million a year. Yikes. And I thought my million dollar store was busy.
I do think SBUX could do more and perhaps make a lower profit, but then again when you look at the statistics compared to other large corporations they are relatively generous. So we really are just all expressing our hope that they'd be even more corporately responsible, because I think that they are already, although there is room for improvement. In terms of the meaningful change they can effect though, keep in mind that SBUX buys like...1% of the world's beans, so their overall impact on the coffee market is negligable. |

| It si good to see that this site is still up and running I thought for a while that starbucks had forced it to be closed down. Most information we get here in england sees small in comparison to the onslaught that has taken over the US but i feel that the same is happening maybe slower but in the same way here. The main grind for me is the loss of local, and independent shops and the aggressive tactics used by starbucks to take over the market (i have read and own both books you mention) and the fact that one company is forcing its views on the way it should be on all of us. Every country is effected by starbucks - the coffee growers to the people who buy it (or feel that they have to - they have no other choice) - it is very good to educate those that feel it is the only option - to that there is always another way. england and other european contries do not want to have the corporate take over of their stores, reasons to shop, reasons not to shop, culture and differences by an all-emcopassing money-orientated force. |

| I am in college and doing an assingment and I have had to include Starbucks as my competitors, whilst researching I found that Starbucks is pathetic I didnt even know what it was until my friend told me what it was. They charge overpriced food and I am a student so I cannot afford this. Anyone agree. |

| Hey JJ: What planet are you on? What corporate job doesn't pay benefits for workers? In Seattle, even McDonalds offers Blue Shield for workers. They even offer tuition reimbursement. Dicks Burgers offers benes, tuition and starts at 9 an hour and all the grease you can eat...lol
The mark up for most businesses these days is 50%. That allows them to cover costs, taxes etc and turn a profit. When I worked in the stores a 5 lb bag of Sanani cost just over $3. They sold that at over 14 a pound. Figure that markup. 15 bucks verses 70. A single tall latte cost 17 cents and sold for 1.75. When my store, number undisclosed, grossed 3 million a year, the total cost of expenses (labor, product etc) was under $225,000.
Sbux is in the 65% range overall. I guess if you can get away with it, great. Just don't brag how generous you are to your employees who make less than industry standards..... |

| shiftking--the average Starbucks store only turns .17 cents on the dollar profit after all the overhead is paid
i.e. benifits, electric ,rent, maitinence, payroll ,cost of goods, shipping, etc
P.S the item master listing is out of date and product prices aren't updated after the item has been entered.
the prices you see for lattes and so on are about 10 years old |

| What other job can you work only 20 hours a week for $7.50 and get full benefits? This job is like most other corporate jobs in America and if you play your cards right you can use it to your advantage. I've bought my own house and a new car thanks to this job and I've only been here for 4 years. Wake up and work for a living, maybe you'll make it too. If its's not for you than leave. |

| i cant understand how those people working in sbucks can take the whole so-called "idelology" so seriously. The company is trying to brainwash their staff and is making them believe that something as common and simple as coffee is somekind of new religion. All those trainings, coffe-samplings, tea-tastings, books... Im sorry, but every normal person would turn mad working in that company for more than two months |

| Reminder: We have to pay our bills. That's why we are bitching here and still working there. With unemployment in Seattle ridculously high (Boeing just announced another layoff today) we have no other choice. Shouldn't we be grateful we have a job? Well maybe, but the hypocrisy of the company can really make you dred going in to work any day of the week. Sbux could really do some great things for the workers and the public but instead seems to only be interested in profit. Not just a small amount of profit but an insane amount. FYI , that $4 Frap costs the company less than 50 cents. |

| I had been to Starbucks once before and had had a hard time understanding what all the hype was about. But the person I had arranged to meet in Ueno (Tokyo) had suggested we meet in Starbucks and, since I didn`t know Ueno I had nowhere better to suggest...anyway, we went there. It was packed. As the area around the register was full we went through to the other rooms, only to find that they were all full too. So we had nothing to do but join the other groups of people all waiting around with their coffee "cups" in their hands.
Now with the number of people waiting the staff must`ve been well aware that the cake was overflowing yet they continued to serve coffee. I go to a coffee shop to relax, not so`s I can stand around for around ten minutes like an idiot, with people pushing and jostling me on all sides and the scalding hot coffee painfully burning my hand through the crappy thin handleless "cup"...next time I`ll go with my instincts and go somewhere less hyped.
Cheers, Charlotte |

But I get booted because i stand up for what i beileve in? okay. and as to anyone in the canton ohio area. Don't go to store 2242 (The Strip) go to the one at Washington Square or at Belden Village. Have a good one y'all |

| I'll get right to the point. I have been working at starbucks for over a year now and it really isn't that bad. Some of you who bitch and moan about your managers and customers maybe don't realize that other service industry employees deal with the same rotten horrible idiotic customers as starbucks does. People complain about making frappuccinos, well when you go in to (for example) dairy queen and order a dilly bar you think dq employees like having to make more of those? Also I'd also like to say that if you have a problem with a manager, shift barista or whatever then maybe you should talk to them, rather than talk about them behind their back. it's so ridiculous if you have a problem with someone go to them and if that doesn't work go to a manager after that go to a district manager. THEY WILL LISTEN. Furthermore if you have a problem with the way starbucks capitalizes on more and more markets stop! If you were the ceo of starbucks you too would want more stores making you more money so stop your nitpicking about how Starbucks is destroying the little guy. If the little guy's customers were to stay with them and continue shopping at the little guy then starbucks wouldn't be able to stay afloat. also in response to employee 209-- I am being promoted to shift and I am neither gay nor a women so I guess your worng on both counts! Finally your not performing brain surgery when you work at Starbucks so don't expect erveryone to be on the same play field as you, try and treat everyone with respect even if they dont to you. Starbucks also shouldn't be your career i'm going to school to be a RN so do something other than sling lattes for the rest of your life, and don't complain if that's all your doing, or maybe that's all your qualified to do. |
