I just have to say.....I love working at Starbucks. Once you who just complain grow up and realize that for a corporate giant, Starbucks offers great benefits to their employees! If you don\'t like coffee then find something else. I\'m sure McDonalds needs you.

I highly reserve the development of starbucks Coffee Shops in Hong Kong. Since it will sell the wrong idea about living styles with Coffee....it is a kind of hegemony. I would rather traditional "cheap" coffee of Hong Kong!!!

Former-- well said. Being treated with respect when I have done nothing to justify an attitude is something I expect from all people, including Starbucks baristas. (Borders Books employees, take note!) Conversely, because I respect human beings, I treat the baristas with more than a modicum of decency. I am polite and unassuming, and do not make a production of ordering a cuppa coffee. I worked for Caribou Coffee myself, and customers ran the gamut between angels and monsters. Fortunately, I was able to genuinely smile at the nice ones and dispatch the rude ones with a taut smile and a "there you go. buh-bye." Customer service is prolly THE most horrid job. Customers will treat you as servants and that will not ever change. Humans are little more than hairless apes in SUVs. Expect nothing less from their behavior. Granted, I should take my own advice and think of baristas as nothing less that hairless apes in 1991 Buick Centurys. In that case, this post mimics my earlier one, which states that both the employees of the 'bucks and the customers are a headache. Oh yeah.. and someone took offense to my "bitter coffee" comment a few posts back. Actually, Starbucks has really awful roasting. It's little more than an overpriced Sam' Club blend. Errr.. at least that's one of the few taste comparisons I can think of. Perhaps finely ground rodent feces would be a close second, but alas, I have never partaken of a cup of that.

Wow, wanting to be treated politely when I spend money in a store means that I am insecure and need to get a self-high off of an employee's kindness? I am certainly not of the opinion that the customer is always right, nor I am I a person that ANYONE who knew me would describe as trying to see the good in everything. However, I see no reason to make myself (or anyone else) miserable by being as vitriolic and negative as possible. I do not "sorta" like starbucks. I HATED working there--hated the smell, hated many of the customers, hated getting in the shower and smelling like I was brewing coffee when I got home from work--however, the starbucks in my neighborhood is the only place that opens early enough for me to stop and get coffee before I drive an hour to work in the morning. I am willing to give Howard my money because I am totally disfunctional without coffee and I would rather not inflict my bitchy self on my co-workers. Incidently, once you get done with school, what are you planning to do with your life? EVERY job requires you to deal with a**holes, every job requires you to compromise your principles in some way.

Wow, I'm glad I stumbled onto this website looking on for a place I could try to get the Consumer Whore shirt. I think Starbucks is a one of the most horrible places in the world. Sure at sometime point they might have been true to what coffee is supposed to really be but as of late their corporate whoredom sickens me. Let me set this straight Starbucks is the great giant it is today cause of one simple reason: Marketing. Hats off to the people at Starbucks marketing cause they've done an excellent job at pushing a mediocre product at best. The coffee is horrible and the conditions of which all their beans are kept are less than stellar. Can anyone tell me why starbucks only drip coffee Starbucks has to offer is a horrible French Roast? Hello! Its called French Roast because that's how the FRENCH like it, how bout something with a American or Vienna Roast here? They're drinks are Marketing mockeries. I won't even get started on what a great disservice they've done to the term Machiatto with the infamous "Carmel Machiatto." And now I hear they plan to stuff all their shops with Fully Automatic machines. Another plus to Starbucks for taking out the Romanism and mystique of the coffee experience. I guess there's no room for a little love in their little efficient corporate world. They should go ahead and change Barista into Cookie Cutter Drone while they’re at it. Seriously, everyone should take the advice of Broken One and frequent their local coffee shops especially the one that deal with local roasters, you'll be in for a real coffee experience rather than Starbucks' corporate envision of what coffee should be.

To: Broken one, have you asked why your local coffee shop closes early? Maybe if you can get support they will stay open later. Unfortunately the only coffee shop I have in my town, NE, is Starbucks. Would love if a private shop opened up here. I wish I had the captial, I would love to open a coffee shop here. I really believe that with a little personal service, not corporate service, I could compete with the big Buck! Well I can dream can't I.

Sorry I'veseenitall. Trying to brush aside the stupid statement you made is, well lets just say, you sound like your 16 or 17! melikaM3 was right in her comments about you! And Matt-NE Barista, you are wrong, wishing that this idiots mother is fixed does not wish death, it wishes that future idiots are not produced. I\'veseenitall wish the customers to die! And this is the reason you work at Starbucks \"Because my house is close by, because I am still a student, because I can’t get a job anywhere else in this economy, because it was my first job, because I need a job and can’t afford the luxury of being “between jobs”, and because I have bills to pay is why I am working at starbucks.\" That is the saddest thing I ever heard! There are grocery stores, video stores, electronic stores. And the only store near you is a Starbucks! I worked at Starbucks and was as unhappy as anyone hear, I quit got a job at our local grocery store. Everything you stated is drival. Grow up. Face the real world. Except the bad and the good! Not one or the other, both! You guys want to wish customers or people dead, fine, I am sure someone feels the same about you. Both you and I\'veseenitall are worthless 17 year olds. Grow up. Everyone has a right to their opinions. Get a life you stupid little F*#k.

Matt NE-Barista... I agree with every single word you typed. You are right and thanks for your support. As for melikaM3 she's probably a 16 year old high school student working part time at a store in Alabama and has NO F***ING CLUE of what she's saying. I didn't mean to hurt anyone's feelings but at the same time, who cares? You're right Matt. She sounds like those customers that called me to complain about the Tazo poster -if you're familiar with it-. And he's totally right melikaM3. If you were just hurt by what I said -that it's in itselef unreasonable- you just made the same mistake by wishing I wasn't alive. That is retarded, very retarded. So, I retract my apologies. Screw it. Matt is right and so am I.

I gotta say, the only starbucks that i knew well was the one at the chapters store i worked at. if anyone doesn't know what i'm talking about, in canada, chapters (a really big book store) partnered up widd starbucks (the coffee company we all love to bash) and yea. the people were cool, we worked together & such. it's the frikkin' customers. book customers, coffee customers. coffee customers who would grab 50 to 60 magazines from the bookstore, sit in the coffee store, and read and not put them back. the same ones who would spill their said drinks and quietly walk off, the ones who would grab litterally $500+ worth of computer books to "sit and read" and treat chapters like a library where you can eat and drink. the ones that gave starbucks employees a hard time due to chapter's rules (started one about no-unpaid merchendise in the starbucks area and having everyone get uppity at THEM) like.... take a pill already. their job is to serve coffee with a smile n'est pas? the booksellers jobs are to help you find books you want to buy n'est pas? and i'm doing a double rant because it's mostly the same people that visited both stores. although one thing i hated about starbucks was the fact WE had to clean the bathroom even though it was technically on THEIR property. yes. stupid "customers" suck. especally the ones that heard the rule "the customer is always right" and actucally BELIEVE IT!

Obviously abusive customers need to be dealt with. I personally was told to "go f**k youself" after asking a customer to stand in line, accused of racism when I redhandedly caught a customer taking money from the tip jar and trying to pocket it, and was subjected to numerous crude sexual comments. In all of those situations I was right and the customer was in the wrong and dealt with accordingly. I'm not talking about those kinds of situations though. I am talking about the numerous "partners" who seem to feel that the customer is wasting their time. Yes people are frequently pains in the ass, however, starbucks promotes a culture like that by giving the customer as many choices as it does. No one goes into Dunkin Dounuts and recites a laundry list of special requests. Most of the baristas here aren't complaining about the 1 in a 100 truely horrid customer, they are complaining about the average customer. If the run of the mill bulls**t is SO upsetting maybe they need a job that doesn't involve dealing with the public.

melikaM3 I did not mean "LITERALLY" that I hope everyone dies. It is a way of putting things. Have you ever said "Why don't you die?" But not actually meaning that?? Jeeeeezzz... and Former Barista... I love my job. I work at corporate and I deal with the worst of the worst scumbags that ever walked into a Starbucks store. Abusive people that have asaulted store partners, threatened them, waited for them at night to hurt them... people that come up with the most unimaginable excuses to make a quick buck out of a successful company and after a while I definitely hold a grudge against all those people. I am not saying that all customers are like that but most of the ones I deal with are. I am not saying either that retail parteners do not have the obligation to be nice; THEY DO. They do NOT, however have to endure abuse from customers that think they can put people down -and I mean really down- for spending 5 miserable dollars a day at their local store. The customer is NOT always right; that used to be back when people where honest and were not trying to squeeze money out of everything that moves.

Yeah, you do need to treat people nicely even if they treat you like s**t. Why? Because that is what starbucks pays you to do. Why do you work a job you hate so much? When I was a "partner" I hated the customers some of the time, but the fact that I could work flexible hours while I went to school was enough of an incentive to suck it up and act like I could stand them. If the benefits don't outweigh the pitfalls why stay?

You do not need to endure andy sort of abuse from ANYONE. If a customer does not have the decency to treat you like a person and has the need to put you down you can ask him to leave the store and grap his money, roll the bill and stick it up his a$$. Trust me. We have more customers than you can shake a stick at. And melikaM3, don't make things personal. Id am not insulting you or any of your family. -Unless you're a stupid a$$ customer like the one's I talk about-.

| The only bad thing about Starbucks is that it attracts the most stupid people(customers) out there! People with attitudes, boorish behavior, wanna be's,snotty rich kids, the "look at me I am a professional" snobs, plain snobs, ignorant snobs, tremendously ignorant snobs, control freaks(as if filling every box on a cup gives them some sort of control...the idiocy of that thinking!)
My one question is...do I have to treat people nicely that treat me like s**t? Where is the civility and manners of you scum bags who "expect" to be treated wonderfully when you look down your nose at others? The only person in the store that is in "control" is the barista making your drink. Ponder that scum! Have a Grandefull day! |

A customer was sitting on the patio at a store here in Seattle on the 4th of July. Across the street people were ligthing fireworks. Somehow one of them landed on his jacket and it caught on fire. He -somehow- thinks it's Starbucks fault. Customers like these are the kind of people that need to die. No personal accountability. Everything that happens to me is someone elses fault... in addition people see $$$tarbuck$$$ everywhere... just like taht customer that told me that she had bought a mug 5 years ago and recently broke and cut her hand... she not only demanded a replacement, but wanted Starbucks to pay for her medical bills!! Jeeeeeeeezzz... Die people! DIE!!!!
