i don't hate starbucks but i don't love it either...their coffee and other drinks are nothing special. but i do hang out at starbucks not because of starbucks really, it's just because my friends and i have no where else to go. we live in a small city and there's nothing better to do. but i just have one question...how come you hate starbucks so much? a lot of my friends hate starbucks also, but they can't ever give me a reason why. but yea i'd just like to know the answer to that.

I have just recently left my position w/starbucks and in the four years I have been with the company I can honestly say that starbucks has created a the worst customers. Please, honestly who created the layered cappucino, whoever that barista that was should be dragged out onto the street and beaten. A layered cappucino espresso, milk, foam, milk, foam, milk, foam until the cup is full. Sweethart it's called gravity look it up or there is my favourite double tall 3/4 nonfat milk and then the rest is whole milk foam just the foam and that's all. What in the world is that? What special nutritonal value does that have? Your 1/2 a sweet and low in your soy dry cappucino, let me check because by the time you get your espresso and your foamy soy milk that has no hope in hell of being dry. But wait the company itself has no problem relauching the "coffee of the week" prgram four times becuse they can't get it right the first time, and the big brewing sale that never happened because we could get enough machine out to the stores, or the customer that is verbally abusive to the partners whenever he comes in and because there are no bottled mocha frappucinos which can be located at any other starbucks retail store, convenice store, costcos and grocery stores yet he send a comment card to seattle about the bad service he receives which he can't seem to understand why we are never nice to him and what does he get free beverage coupons and a sorry about the bad service he recieves and if seattle would just send the damn bottled frappucio when it is ordered then it would never be a problem. And the rate of pay should really be determined by your geographic location. As great as $8.25 and hour is it's not worth it living a major metropolitian city where your entire paycheck is going just to cover rent.

I just recently discovered this site. At first glance I was in aw. Finally I found a web site that I could relate to. It seemed like all of you writing in knew exactly how I felt and what I was going through at the Starbucks that I work at. But know in the past day or so all of the entries written in by people that are complaining and using huge words that you probably had to look up to make yourself look smarter. Well you know what it just makes you sound like; a depressed cofee junky that probably goes to Starbucks every day hoping that you can find other coffee junkies, so you can tell yourself you have friends. I'm sorry you are still a loser(Sam). We still work at Starbucks cause it sure the heck beats working at McDonalds. But I'm sure that you will argue with me on that because you love working there. Don't lie Sam you are jealous that we have respectable jobs and you just have the grill and deep frier to brag about. This site is great to come to and just read other partners horror stories because that way I know that its not just my store and boss that are corrupt. One thing is, to all of you other partners, you can't complain about the benefits of: sick days, personal days, vacation time, meical/dental insurance and of course the only thing keeping us with money in between pay checks, our TIPS. Now that is more than some adults get and if your young like me that seems like an extra bonus. As I end my entry I hope that more partners will write in about there experiences with starbucks and the rude customers that we have to deal with all day.

Sam, I’m not really sure how you came to the conclusion that this has escalated into the realm of personal attack. As to you doubting that I have travelled and live in London, I’m sure that Mark in London can verify that the McDonalds at Marble Arch has a Mc Café that we have all seen and openly mocked. And yes Mark, the Leicester Square Charbucks is a pit. I used McDonalds as a metaphor Sam, nothing more, nothing less. McDonalds has a high profile, and a successful strategy for market saturation. Charbucks has the same strategy. When McDonalds was seriously trying to squeeze out the competition, they would open up a shop directly across from any burger king or other fast food chain outlet. That is what Charbucks is currently doing over here in the UK with Café Nero and Costa Coffee. This alone would allow the use of simile when writing about McDonalds and Charbucks. If you would do me the favor of explaining the part at the end of your polemic when you state that somehow the clothes do not maketh the man and therefore that makes mine a pretty boring world. I believe you have misapplied the cliché here, and it weakens what argument you have presented. Rhetorical issues aside, I still think that Charbucks presents an inferior product, and they do it in a carbon copy fast food manner. As to your admission to your inability to distinguish between gradations of quality; well, that’s just a bummer now ain’t it?

Is it me or is drinking out of paper cups when you are 'eating in' seem very cheap and tacky? I went to the Leicester Square Starbucks hoping to be able to sit, relax and calm down from the busy London streets. All I got was awful music, cheap decor, uncomfortable seats and poor service. At least I know what to expect now. It certainly is the fast-food version of a coffee shop.

Thanks for putting this site up and next time any of you need to relieve yourself, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND STARBUCKS.... cause they ain't gettin any mo-ney from me...

by the way, nobody says po-tah-to, i don't know what you are talking about. a lot of the poeple who work at starbucks and are writign on this site have worked here for a while, and so make much higher wages than they would if they were to work somewhere else, plus they need the benefits the company provides, and probably have stock in the company. Realistically, they would be a lot worse off financially if they were to quit, and that is another reason why they don't. the company has deteriorated over the years as it has gotten bigger.

ok, first of all--who the hell is using my name? whoever you are, STOP it. get your own damn identity, i'm sorry but not everyone can be me. secondly, sam ss ottowa--we work at starbucks still because if you have not noticed, the economy is in a slump at the moment, and it is hard to find jobs else where, especially since if we were to work in retail, or at another coffee shop or food place we would make less than we do at starbucks, and it is very hard finding other jobs right now--trust me, i'm trying. and stop trying to sound so intelligent by saying things like American neo-imperialism, do you even understand what that means? i would like you to explain that one to me, since i don't think you do. you do not make very intelligent comments. coming onto this website and saying things like starbucks makes good coffee and then telling us not to argue with that is about the stupidest thing you could do. what the hell do you think this site is about? i find it refreshing to argue on this site. people have different opinions, and it is fun debating them. i just have a problem with people who try to impose their ideas on others with no justification. (that was to matt ne-barista). there really is no point to this website, and to this arguing since it will not bring around the downfall of starbucks or corporations anywhere. it is just to enlighten people to the idea that there may possibly be other options besides starbucks, and to show people that it has brainwashed people everywhere. oh, and sam s/s ottowa, why don't you read howard shultz's (the ceo of sbux) book. he himself says that the number one reason that starbucks is successful is due to it's employees. once you are done reading that, why don't you read my comment that i made a few days ago about my theory on why starbucks is truly successful--the brainwashing of it's employees which lead to the brainwashing of its customers. yes, we do have to go to trainging, i really don't know why you didn't CT starbucks rebel. matt nebarist, i think that you make valid statements, and i value them, so plese continue to do so. and finally--whoever you are--stop using my name!

Sam S/S Ottawa, your reasoning is almost as bad as mine. Excellent to note that you realized the US is not communist. French wine is better than Californian. Working at starbucks is a mear convenience to my house. Also, "a lot of" is relative, so your choices for what the country would be like if there were no starbucks are invalid. If people were not working at starbucks they would be working somewhere else, or devoting their newly acquired free time to more school work. I am finished arguing stupid logic, this is a simple argument of people's beliefs. I don't believe in starbucks' the company, like i have said. I know you are in favor of starbucks exorcising its right to flourish in a free market economy, I am for its downfall (just as i am for Microsoft’s). The monopolies that have risen in this country, arguable, and have destroyed future diversity and quality of product. I don't know if you believe this, i really don't care if you do or don't, but this is what i believe. I also believe, from my own experiences that French wine is better than Californian. I also believe people defend worthless points, with no real end benefit to themselves. I have personally wasted time and energy typing my beliefs at no good to anyone else. I will no longer post my ideas, but i will continue to read and support others sometimes. For now I am bored arguing around in a circle. Also, CT Starbucks Rebel, nothing is accomplished by messing up the store. If you want to bring it down do it through the inside. Find a better use for your time and energy. Ok that is it, and to "what the hell is a barista anyway" your comments are neither constructive nor pertinent to our arguments. But please, be my guest to keep on posting your "childish" statements. Thanks to all who have disagreed constructively, all that have contributed, and all that have supported various arguments. That is all.

Monty: You can't complain that Starbucks is the McDonald's of Coffee. If you have traveled, like you said you have, you'll see that McDonald's has the McCafé chain all around the world almost. That's the McDonald's of Coffee. Starbucks is different. Its successes are based on the product first, the partners second, and the locations last. Rather than the other way around for other global behemoths (and yes, Starbucks is one of them). Yes, I have tried Turkish/Greek coffee, and Italian and French coffee. It's really hard to argue that is one is better than the other, just like how it's hard to say that French wine is better than Californian wine all the time for everyone! You say po-tah-to, I say po-tay-to, see? If something works, why not duplicate it? It's not the interior design that makes the Starbucks, just like it's not the clothes that make the man! If so, then you're living in a pretty boring world! It's the people and experiences that shape what Starbucks is to each individual person! Bite me!

One thing I don't understand about the partners that hate Starbucks so much is, Why do you work for the company? Biting the hand that feeds you makes you just a hypocrit, unless you really are sabotaging the company from the inside (uh-huh). Whatever you're earning, think of how much you'd be making without your sorry ass jobs! Either nothing, or the minimum wage, no benefits of other fastfood places (would you like fries with that dumbass?). I agree with Brent. Why argue against the market economy. How about the government just tell us where to buy coffee, or groul? That'd be fun, huh? Nikki: coffee that is good to one person is not necessarily the best for another, you know? It's all in the mouth of the beholder. PS. I don't know how a woman in Italy got frappuccinos everyday anyway. We don't have Starbucks in your country of Italy, either! Also, don't worry your pudgy unyuppy ass just yet out of fear for your mom and pop shops. I'd also like to rant against the people ranting against Starbucks as the epitomy of American neo-imperialism (if you know what that means). Without Starbucks, your country would be: A) out of a lot of jobs, B) out of a lot of foreign capital, C) out of good coffee (don't even argue with me on this one, UK), or D) all of the above?

I have worked at slutbucks for almost a year now and I hate it with a passion. The employers and employees suck. I get paid sh*t and work all the time. For what? NOTHING. My pay checks are gone the first day we get them. Why is this? Well I don't know, maybe its because slutbucks is a monopoly and they use us employees as slave laborers. I don't know if this is a problem at other stores but in my year at slutbucks I have had one raise and it was $.11. Oh please don't spoil us to much cause we don't have bills to pay to. Just cause we work there and aren't one of the rich yuppies that come in with there starbucks cards and still have $120 left on it. Give me a break.

I get tired every time I drink starbuck's coffee. I think it's all decaf or the put something in it that makes you tired so you'll think you need more caffiene and then you'll buy more and more. I've had the strongest possible coffee at home and at Starbuck's and I get tired. I am usually very sensitive to caffiene so I don't understand this. What's going on?

Hey. My teacher drinks coffee. She is always pissed at everyone. Well anyway my classmate buys her Starbucks coffee. She buys it for her because you can't get it were we are from and its populer in the US. Like how a burger from Burger King might be. (We don't have it here)Well anyway i have tried there Frappucino before. It was alright. Nothing great. Nothing i have ever tried before. And it cost over $2.00! You know i thought coming from them it would be alright. Well i would actually go for Seattles Best. My classmate dosen't understand that. She thinks that just because you are not huge you are not good. I mean look at the chef Emerald. He puts onions into a pan and people ahh and ohh. They think that he is so good at putting onions into a pan. I have nothing against Starbucks. The only thing i have a problem with is them getting people to buy them beans. They give no medical things and pay them like crud. I mean just to get a cup of coffee for cheaper and cheaper amounts of money they treat people like dirt. You employees. Your just the tip of the iceberg. Just want to cover everything underneath up. Your at the top. You don't do anything. But when people see you smileing and giving them coffee (overcharged) They think wow this place is clean. Nothing bad going on here. And i bet you employess don't know whats going on either. You just think because they treat you nicely (because you treat the customers) then they would treat everyone els the same way. But believe me all your their for is to smile and serve the coffee. Starbucks treats people like dirt just to get their coffee cheaper then overcharges it. Well. I dont even drink coffee. Im only 12.

I never recieved any training about how good the company was. Sometimes when I get mad I dump espresso shots on the carpet and leave a big mess. One time I took the white mocha and made a pentagram with it on the carpet. It freaked my boss out for sure.

oh--jessica, just to let you know since you are researching how starbucks brainwashes people--they start with their employees. we have to spend six hours in a class called the 'starbucks experience,' where they basically tell us that starbucks is the greatest coffee shop, and everyone loves it, and they show us several videos that show how everyone affiliated with starbucks is completely happy. does this remind anyone else of communist propoganda brainwashing videos? anyway, so my theory is that starbucks real success lies in convincing their employees of how wonderful the company is. this is then transfered to the customers, who also start believing the same thing. by training it's employees in the same ways, and convincig them how wonderful starbucks is, no matter what starbucks yougo to, you will get almost the same type of service. they do things like give raises every six months (my raise was 2%, which equals an extra $0.14 and hour, which means that every 10 hours i work i make and extra $1.40, which only adds up to a tall coffee--at least that is the price at my store). they also give a 30% discount, but this then ensures that their employess will most likely choose to buy coffee at a starbucks instead of a mom and pop store, since it will be cheaper. People were also comparing starbucks to mcdonalds, and that is how i differentiate the two--mcdonalds employees do not give off the illusion of utter happiness, and complete belief in the products they are selling. when people buy stuff at mcdonalds, they know that they are not getting the best their money can buy. when peole buy stuff from starbucks, they think that they are.

i think that it is so funny how most of the people who bitch about starbucks are the people who work there. haha. i mean, come on customers--we obviously know the company just a tad bit better than your sorry asses. honestly. ok, i know this is kind of random, but i just have to say that just because we work at a coffee shop does not mean that we are stupid, or do not have futures. and if we are female, we are not here for you to hit on, damn it. i guess that applies to all coffee shop employees, not just starbucks, but i just thought i'd put that out there.

Brent you have no idea what you are talking about. Nikki I totally agree. Jessica I am always happy to help. What the h*ll was the deal with that website, those people are more pathetic than we are (just kidding about us, or am I). I can't believe what crap I just polluted my mind with. Firebucks just because Starbucks made you money, which is ironic itself, doesn’t mean it’s to be liked. And to all my fellow baristas out there… I hear your cries! I can not stand those godd*mn customers who think we are there to pay them lip service. What the h*ll is that? And to anyone who orders frappachinoes during a rush, or orders three or more drinks at the same time, or holds up the line to pay us for a tall coffee with a fifty, or holds up the line to pay for a grande latte with pennies, or stares at the order board for five minutes with their mouth gapping open expecting us to stand there looking up their nose, F*CK you too! And to Jesse, right on man, right on! (oh, and India-Barst, yes, I know the second to last sentence is a blatant run on. Keep in mind that I don’t give a f*cking sh*t. Also, this time I opted for profanity, I thought I would go all out dumb*ss, just for you India.) Ok take it easy everybody, and keep on hating Charbucks ( I hope you don’t mind Monty)!
