Ok, a new day has dawned on IHateStarbucks.com.

| I knew a woman who stopped drinking frappachinos and lost twenty pounds. I am Italian and in my country we have better coffee. Way better. It is sad that so many mom and pop shops that actually make coffee the way my friends and family likes are going out of business because of nasty chains like Starbucks. It is not their popularity that bothers me so much as it is their bad quality coffee. I am sure if some of these people knew how to make drinks right it might taste a little better. Not much but a little. Starbucks does suck. The majority of people that go there all look the same: Round, pudgy, yuppie idiots. |

| This site is just great, btw. I am an anthropology student at Emory University doing an ethnography on Starbucks. I have been reading and analyzing the propaganda that Starbucks has on their website....interesting, to say the least. Now, I don't *hate* Starbucks as much as I despise soooo many people who live there. (yes, *live* there). The village store that we have here is always busy, which doesn't surprise me....we have quite a few rich, snobby kids here. Anyway, I think it's refreshing to read so many comments, especially from the people who work there - it's particularly helpful for me.
Just in case you would like to read something ridiculous, go to www.servemyass.com/starbucks "Whoa" is all I can say.
PS- "barista" means "barmaid/barman" or "bar owner" in italian. Thanks so much! |

| i can't resist posting this, partially becasue i know a lot of the people who go to starbucks heard the plug on NPR about this site and I am sure they are coming to read what is being posted. A cappucino is not a latte. A cappucino has foam. So quit ordering a no foam cappucino or telling me after i made your drink - "Ummm sir you forgot to put milk in this or oyu forgot to fill it up." I dont need to say anyhting more about frapuccinos becasue it has already all been said. Remember people it is jsut coffee, not some great god, get a life and bitch at someone else. The last thing i need when working is for you to tell me that i am not doing someehting right. Making your coffee drinks sucks so much monkey ass it is not even funny. |

| Since when did Starbucks become a desert place?!!! You can't tell me that making "Caramel Frappucinos with extra Caramel" is a coffee drink....it's simply some imbastardized desert gone wrong! A hint people.....that drink already has enough calories to live on for a day, do you really need more caramel? Don't you fellow baristas love it when they bitch that the quart of caramel you just poured over their gut wrencher isn't enough??!! How about the people that tell you how to do every step of the drink making process as if you never did this before. I got in trouble cause I told some snob doing this to me "Do you tell the pilot how to fly the F*&^^# plane as well?!" I know what hell is.....it is a line for miles of people wanting frappucinos, all of them "specialized" cause it need to pose more of a threat to the digestive system that it already does! Also, is it just me or do thoses damn things give the runs!!! I'm serious here! This can't be good!!! One more thing...I can't stand when you are on the bar and a customer asks you for a fork! Yeah....let me drop everything regardless of the 980,000 drinks in line to get that for you! I have never been to Italy, please tell me thier cafes are not like this....you know, serving mutant creations instead of coffee! |

I’m not sure that my posting indicated that I go to a lot of charbucks, but I think that the problem we’re running into here is the fact that one Charbucks is much like another. It’s got the same corporate thrust that McDonalds has. They have taken a simple idea and marketed it to the world. Mostly, they have taken the idea that they can overcharge people for a mediocre cup of coffee and people will buy it as they have slipped in to the great sphincter of marketing. Now, there are few people who will claim that McDonalds has the finest of the burgers, just the most convenient. I would argue that Charbucks has applied this methodology to coffee. Not the best, but since it’s everywhere, it’s saturated the market enough to become “popular.” (Much like top 40 radio).
As to how other places are serving coffee, have you ever tried real Turkish coffee? Greek coffee? (much the same really, but don’t tell them that) Be that as it may, they are both brilliant ways to drink coffee, not a drop of soy in sight. I would also argue that the best of them is either a good French or Italian cup, or for hardcores, Arabic coffee--the kind where you have to put a sugar cube on your tongue and smoke from a hookah to complete the experience. I think that what Charbucks has really done is reduce what should be an novel and varied experience to a high-speed, cattle call for coffee that lacks character, interest, or individuality. I personally don’t want my coffee just like everyone else… |

| i work in a store in southern california. (matt nebarista--i'm what the hell is a barista anyway). i think that starbucks managers really do like to hire gay people. i think my manager is bisexual, 2 out of the 3 guys that work in my store are gay, and many of the female employees are either lesbians or bisexual. i don't have a problem with this, i just find it interesting. wow,i have so many problems with starbucks, i don't even know where to begin. i'm trying to find another job, and then i'm out. as for the customers--let me just say that no you are not super cool if you babble off your drink in the right order. in fact, it is kind of pathetic that you know the order in the first place. you drink too mcuh coffee. get a life. and frappacinos suck so much. tell me fellwo starbucks employees, do little 13 and 14 year old girls come in with wayy too much makeup and order things like a venti caramel frappacino with no whipped cream because they done't want to get fat? and parents of these kids--how can you let your children drink that mcuh caffiene in the first place. honestly, what is wrong with america that a corporate business can take over our very lives. it is so sick, and so sad. oh, and for every customer who reads this--i would just like to add that please do not get mad at us if the line takes too long, or if we do not give you a huge grin when you order 10 stupid drinks or pastries inthe morning when there is a huge line and we mess up the order. we are usually short staffed all the time, and we are people, and we get tired too. oh, and please do not come get coffee in the morning. it is a pain in the ass to grind, and it takes forever, and there are people in line behind you waiting who get mad at us. oh, and also if you use a starbucks card, don't forget to tip us. people who work in service survive on their tip money. thank you. |

| Monty: You complain about Starbucks quite a bit, but it sure seems like you go to them a lot. PS The only reason that Seattle Coffee Company existed is because Starbucks wasn't yet ready for "world domination" yet. PPS. How are the French/Italian/Greek places serving the coffee to you?
Turtle: You're a dumbass. How would you know that the manager was gay, and that the employees were as well? Did the manager braid your hair or build you a spice rack? Maybe they didn't hire you because you're a whiny little idiot with a venti™-sized ego? I'm sure you know they hired you over someone else because you're just such a threat to them, knowing everything and all. |

And customers are so friggin messy! They leave their empty cups , newspapers, plates, etc at the tables and expect us to clean up after them! I wasn't hired to be somebody's f*cking mother and clean up after them! |

| I was so happy when I found your web site. I will not shop at starbucks for the simple reason that companies like starbucks put little mom and pop shops out of business. King Street in Charleston, SC is a prime example of what happens when big business is allowed to come in a ruin the charm of an amazing city like Charleston. Where there once was interesting shops, with unique items, there is now bland coffee, and bland clothes that you can by at any mall in the USA. Bringing in large conglomerate companies like starbucks, the gap, and foot locker raises the lease rates, and pushes out the family owned businesses that just can not compete. Main Street America has been distroyed by the likes of these companies. |

| Matt-NE…show a little respect for other’s opinions. You act as though you are some type of intellectual, yet you say things like, “your thesis here lacks…” and “Not all humans act according to their own will, the majority are brainwashed or are followers of certain crouds”. It is spelled “crowds” genius! Also, in your response to mgivern, it’s called an opinion, maybe a theory, but not a thesis. Where do you draw the distinction between “brainwashed” and the normal social interactions that take place daily? Maybe you are trying to brainwash people with your theories?! Anyway, my main problem with Starbucks is their lack of commitment to truly benefit the growers. They simply do not promote the Fair Trade coffee in the way they do other products. It is never brewed as “Coffee of the Day”, nor used in café drinks. Why don’t they start making the Fair Trade coffee the base of all of their espresso drinks? Until they do, it’s just window dressing. |

| Ok, I have lived in Seattle, San Francisco, all throughout the Bay Area in CA and now I'm in London--and I can't get away from them. When Charbucks first purchased another well known Seattle coffee chain that already had a presence the UK, they vowed to not change the name. Well that's gone out the window, the black and green having invaded pretty much every major city in the UK and it's not getting any better (Look Marge, we can see Shakespeare's grave while drinking our triple tall decaf skinny lattes). It's too bad that it's a nation of tea drinkers who are being introduced to coffee through over-roasted McCoffee. This is tough to take as instant coffee still has a foothold in this place. The good news is that there are some good italian/greek/turkish/french places that serve coffee the way that the gods ment it. Let's hope that Charbucks doesn't get together with Microslop--the end of the free world... |

| Hey! The local $tarbuck$ didn't hire me because I'm straight. I swear. I've worked at 3 other cafes and I know the business inside and out but the manager in charge of hiring for that particular store was gay and only hired gay employees. The entire staff is either gay or bi. I personally don't care what one's sexual orientation is, but I think that it's highly discriminatory to disregard a well-trained, friendly, dependable individual to hire a sullen, poorly-groomed, pretentious, untrained person simply because the former is gay.
I thought I'd let you all know of this, considering the fact that most of these posts are written by $tarbuck$ employees. Flame away, nuttos. Viva Barnies! |

| Great Site. Starbucks Coffee does truly suck, the only reason that it sells so well is that the regular crap that Americans call coffee is also appalling....how can you drink.
How do I know? I am an Australian, I live in our second largest city, Melbourne (look it up 3 million people). Due to post-WW2 imigration we have a large Southern European population, especially Italians. Most cafes and restaurants make truly fantastic coffee that is served up at the correct temperature....like the way it is served in Italy.
Why do Americans serve coffee at near-scalding temperature anyway? What are ya Stupid?
Starbucks has just opened its first Melbourne store, and it is not going well....the only customers are dumb Americans who are too ignorant to know any better...
I love Americans and I love your country, but when it comes to food and beverages, you really have no idea.. |
