Too Many! One one London bus journey from Tottenham Court Road to Euston Station, I counted 6 Starbucks, 4 Costa Coffee, and about 3 others I couldn't remember the name of! Its only a 10 minute drive! Is the enormous amount of places they have really necessary? They, like most huge corporations, are driving individual shops out of business. There is a place in the town I live at the upstairs of a post office that is completely independent, run by an old lady, a young woman and a young man that is a great place to have a snack, or lunch, in a great atmosphere. However, they are not doing excellently and the prospect of a starbucks, or similar, is looming large in our area. It would completely kill their business! They are making a monopoly out of the caffeine - hungry people. P.S. I read an article in The Guardian newspaper about your site. Keep up the good work!

i work for starbucks rostery in london, and it is true that they do roast there coffee more than other coffee makers. they treat it as a gimmick and every starbuck loving sucker buys into it. it bullshit, you pay over the odds for burnt coffee just cos society would have you believe it is cool. i hate starbucks

Sure, actually, I have a lot of stuff to do, so I haven't compiled the list of why I personally hate Starbucks, but I am flattered that you care what my opinion is. First of all, the coffee is picked by underpaid sweatshop style employees, this has been documented, and before the Starbuckers get up in arms about it, I know they sell Fair Trade coffee as well, but they don't brew it in the stores. So all the coffee that you drink is not naturally UnFair Trade. How is that for starters? I can go on, they are a blight on the landscape of America. They symbolize the worst of the homogenous corporate landscape architecture. They are as common as cockroaches, or McDonalds. But at least McDonalds sells burgers (maybe) and don't gloss it over with a faux coffee-haus culture. And also, the coffee is bitter. I have heard that it is because they over-roast their beans, but I am no expert. If you send me an email I can go on. My email is on the homepage.

Can the site owner please direct me to the section of the site where there are some points to back up the "I hate Starbucks" statment? Or is this simply a guestbook and nothing more? At least provide an argument that is more than "The coffee is bitter". Base your arguments on more than assumtions

Why does manager boss make me work Sunday mornings and Saturday afternoons. I need to go to Church so that I may enoy eternal salvation in the prescence of our Lord Jesus Christ. Exdus 20:11 In six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them; but on the seventh day he rested. That is why the LORD has blessed the sabbath day and made it holy. Out of the depths I have cried unto Thee, O Lord - Lord hear my voice! Let Thine ears be attentive to the voice of my supplication. If Thou, O Lord, shalt mark our iniquities, O Lord, who can abide it? For with Thee there is mercy, and by reason of Thy law I have waited for Thee, O Lord. My soul hath waited on His word; my soul hath hoped in the Lord. From the morning watch even unto night, let Israel hope in the Lord. For with the Lord there is mercy, and with Him is plentiful redemption. And He shall redeem Israel from all its iniquities.

Starbucks the company is the problem. Their stupid draconian rules. The customers are nice. The rules are dumb, irrevelant. I know a great store which gives me free drinks because I am a partner. They know the real meaning of love and fraternity. (Sorry girls). Giving is a good thing. I wish I could give free drinks to the cops who come in. They are so nice. But no I can't because I could be fired. Starbucks does make some good drinks like mocha frappucinos. But don't work there. Become a prostitute instead at least you make more per hour.

London is becoming "Starbuckland"! Together with other corporate brands they are making this city (and many others) impersonal. A long established record shop in the Covent Garden area, "Ray's Jazz Shop" is forced to close down because they cannot afford ther rent and - guess what?! - Starbuck are taking over. You could go to this shop, buy records and get advise from proper, knowledgeable, human beings ...who wants another Starbucks in an area that was famous for independent and alternative shops?!?! Starbucks and all the corporate brands are destroying local business and forcing them out. IT'S A SHAME!!!

I agree, free drinks for partners, but sometimes even I don't do it. I worry it will be a manager from another store or a head office person with a parnter card and then I get in trouble, as after all it is against the rules, as stupid as they are...

I love this website. As a store manager, I think it's hilarious to hear some of these posting and I'm amazed at all the animosity people have towards this company, not that disagree with it all but I miss hearing the barista's "real" point of view. I started out as Joe Barista like everyone else and never intended on making a career our of starbucks. Funny thing happened...six years have passed and I run my own store now. I was only planning on taking a year off school and look where it got me. So when I hear comments about baristas smoking pot at the store, giving out crappy shots and free drinks to friends, don't think that I'm naive to what's going on. I've been 'that' barista. And just because I'm on the other side of the management fence, it doesn't mean I recite the corperate philosophy every night before I go to sleep or I've sold my soul to Howard Schultz. I'm just trying to make a living like everyone else...I just chose to take the higher paying route in the meantime. If that means I have to be the bad guy..so be it. But for all of you that bitch about your stupid manager, keep in mind that we're not all that bad, I've been in your shoes, I've had people shit on me too from all sides (DM's, partners and customers), I don't particularly enjoy trying to brainwash new hires into starbucks submission, going to conventions and learning how to hire ideal candidates to be nice, be clean and be fast or holding staff meeting to discuss how, as a team, we're going to increase whole bean sales. At either end of the spectrum, it all comes down to the paycheck. Am I satisfied when I've finished a hard day of work? You bet your ass I am. Do I feel guilty for where I work? The only thing I feel guilty of is cheating myself out of an education. But on the same hand, I'm still young and fully intend on finishing that degree and if starbucks can help me pay for that...so be it. So for all you out there, continue to rant. You have the right and I want to hear it.

I have read through a lot of these posts. all i have to say is what crappy starbucks have you been going to or working at? I must be lucky that i have had the opportunity to work at two of the best stores in MI and apparently everywhere else. True, every store has nasty @ss customers occassionally, but all the time? Are the partners really going to say that there aren't customers who you know by name & drink, be real. And the customers, have you really never gotten a friendly smile or have a nice day? BS. But if not, stop by 2277, we are the best, minus our few dumb employees and our handfull of stoners. But that didn't stop our 3 100% snaps. If you still don't like it go across the street, there's a little cafe who's food and homemade waffles are so damn good, but their coffee is even nastier then you all claim starbucks could ever be.

Question: i this ihatestarbucks.com or ihatestarbuckscustomers.com? From what i've read the majority of people are moaning and whining about annoying customers (for which i sympathize, about 60% of them really do suck) but what's your complaint with the company, besides the verisimos, those are awful, so much for a consistant drink at all stores. But the store i work at is great, granted both my mgr and asst. mgr are idiots but thankfully our SS can run the store with their eyes closed. You get good benefits, make $2 or more an hour in tips, meet and work with cool people (the non drugees), and have fun. So seriously is your biggest complaint high maintenance customers? If so, give em decaf when they order regular, serve them expired COD, make their non-fat latte with breve, forget to put in those 1 & 1/2 packets of = they wanted, and smile and tell them to have a good day.

how about this one - customers that want a hot frappacinno? "well sir, that drink is made with ice, so unless there is a new kind of ice that isn't cold, i suppose that you will have to settle for our normal way of making it." and then thay'll probably say something lie "but that is what I always get back home..." I don't think so, unless your baristas are smoking pot WHILE they are making it, because that is impossible

listen, I am a barista at a local starbucks, and a college student. I don\'t hate starbucks, but this site is awesome. there are definitely some customers that i want to beat some sense into at times. But what drives me crazy is when I am in other starbucks in the area and they know I work for starbucks, but they don\'t partner bev my drink! give me a break! you know that you can - why don\'t you? We don\'t make that much, the least we can do is help each other out. are you too power-hungry or what? do you enjoy making me pay for my caffeine? why punish me? give me the drink!

Tell your friend the next time just to give the customer a decaf!! Whatever is in the Brewer! No if the customer asked "What different kinds of decaf does your store offer" and then slamed her hand down I could understand his frustration.

o.k.,so my friend who works with me at starbucks had this customer one day who comes in and says"i'll have a tall decaf".of course my friend asks"decaf coffe of the day?"the customer replies "no....i just want a decaf."my friend goes on to explain that we can do just about any drink decaf when the customer slams her hand on the counter and yells"i knew this was going to happen! i just want a decaf!!!"what an idiot...the fact that she "knew it was going to happen"must have meant that it's already happened sveral times before....so does she really think that everyone who actually works at starbucks does'nt know what their talking about ,but she apparently does? i don't get it.i really wish someone would explain it to me.by the way...we just got the auto-machine,and i kinda feel like i'm working for mcdonald's or somthin',but it is much easier to clean at night.also you don't get coffee grinds all over you....

I've just been fired from starbucks. For all they pretend to be a warm and fuzzy place, they aren't! They are so concered about the bottom line, that we were always understaffed, but I wasn't allowed to hire part-timers, and I wasn't, per my DM, allowed to have more than 2 college students (and I'm situated withing 1 mile of 3 universities. They are out for more money than god. Go Carribou!

The thing that pisses me off the most are stupid ass customers comin' in actin' as if they know how to make the drinks in which they ask for (ex: one guy asks for a split double tall americano...duh...tall americano's are already DOUBLE! Ontop of that, while pokin' his nose in places it shouldn't be, like behind the bar...he yells "I wanted it split shot...you guys never get it right"...just to find that it wasn't even his f@(#in' drink! Moral of the story...butt out, shut up...and stay the F away from the bar, we obviously know what we're doing for it's our job and not yours! Second...to those customers who think they're all that...when a barista asks you how you are or simply says "hi"...RESPOND...don't just order! It's incredibly rude (as is talkin' on your cellphones or makin' out in line!). Third and last complaint of mine....if you drop something on the ground PICK it up...if you get a "for here cup" or plate...BRING it to the counter we don't get paid enough to clean up after lazyass muthaf#(@'s aight? AND WIPE UP YOUR SPILLS ON THE CONDIMENT BAR.

Automated Expresso Machine = Veruzimo You push a button and the shots come out automatically, you just put the cup right under it. It even steams milk automatically. Only high volume stores get them. However, the Veruzimo can be slow to those people that know how to pull shots by tamping. Some days we got to tamp lightly other days we got to tamp hard to pull the perfect shot.

We are not a barn!!!!! >:-O

News Flash: The country of Spain has now been violated by the vile company of Starbucks. Reports indicate that two stores have just opened in central Madrid. They are spreading quickly like a swarm of locust. It is predicted that Starbucks will spread 15-30 stores within the next two years.
