Coffee People died a long time ago, and has been chugging a long a shadow of its former self for years. So Starbucks is actually performing a mercy killing. The original founders of Coffee People have their own café called Jim And Patti's on Freemont. They serve up the original Black Tiger blend renamed Top Thrill Dragster. Plus, they do Mocha Borgias with real oranges and have killer coffee cake. No Hippie Cookies, though. :( And there are plenty of great coffee choices in PDX. There's Stumptown, Blue Gardenia, Ristretto, Albina Press, Crema, etc... Many of these places not only are "3rd Wave" but also serve proper caps and a 2 shot 8 oz latte for only $2 - $2.50 and serve properly roasted and very fresh (less than a week old) coffee.

I do not really hate starbucks but I figured this would be the best place to put my comment. I was trying to look up recipes for the strawberries & creme frappucino and the whipped topping that you always put on top. If there is any way you can help me please post the recipe on the site...

UMMM, I just want to say to whoever posted before about the cappuccino that THAT IS WHAT CAPPUCCINOS are. Espresso, very little steamed milk, and foam. It's supposed to be light.

Thanks for all the suggestions! Jeez, Diedrich's too? George Chamberlein in the San Diego Daily Transcript had an article about this and he visited this lovely site. He even quoted me. Gee, the one time I use my real first name and it ends up in the paper! http://www.sddt.com/Commentary/article.cfm?Commentary_ID=10&SourceCode=20060922tbc

here is a little example of how wicked cool starbucks really is... so caring and looking to help everyone. charitable in every sense... or in Syracuse, NY there was a coffee shop called No Borders, No Boundries. This shop was the main coffee shop catering to syracuse university students, and really one of the major hang outs for locals as well. they had open mic nights, bands, djs and anything else they could come up with to cater to the customers. everyone went there. she had awesome coffee and tea. everyone loved it... even the animal loving vegans were all about it and they are a tough croud to please. then along came this place called starbucks... opened right downstairs. at first we were all really pissed off at the audacity that such a corporation would even try to open down stairs... but then it got worse. this corporation paid the landlord to raise no borders rent... we threw party after party and fundraiser after fundraiser. tried to keep it open as long as we could. now it has been a couple years since but if memory serves correctly I think it lasted maybe 6 months. with a debt to the owner as she closed her doors. it has been like 6 or 7 years and this is the first year a non corporate coffee shop has opened in syracuse. it didnt last 6 months either. so all i have to say is F*CK STARBUCKS and their overpriced burnt coffee.

So, hear's my deal. I'm writing a paper about consumerism and recently went into locally owned coffee shops and Starbucks. The Starbucks employees talked all about how all of their coffee is Fair Trade, but only one is offically Fair Trade because it's expensive to actually have their coffee offically Fair Trade. He talked about how there's an option for organic and soy milk, you get ten cents off if you bring in your own mug and the cups are 10 percent post consumer recycled fiber. All I could think about was the extra forty cents for the soy or organic milk, Fair Trade being too expensive for a booming corporation, only ten cents and the amount of cups, lids and sleeves that are being thrown in the trash. Why isn't there an option for a mug when a customer decides to have a drink of coffee in their "fashionable" waste bin. The employee also talked about the "great" things Starbucks is doing to help out the community. You know, selling water to obtain $10 million by 2010 for safe drinking water around the world... How about earning a profit while doing a good deed... Oh and get this, Starbucks has real organic coffee now!! What about the little coffee shops near Starbucks that have been brewing real good organic coffee for years. It's like having Walmart selling organic veggies. Oh Big Business taking over once again. My brother is a former employee of Starbucks, meaning we recieved a lot of free stuff... that taste like shit Yeah, I'm done here... time to actually finish up the assignment for real

Starbucks sued for squashing competitors by Penny Stafford of Belvi Coffee and Tea Exchange Inc. According to court papers, Starbucks violated federal antitrust laws by leasing prime commercial real estate at above-market prices in return for the exclusive right to sell espresso drinks or specialty coffee in those locations. It's about time someone took a stand and did something. It could become a class action suit. Thank you Penny for taking action. Read the whole story. http://msnbc.msn.com/id/15004798/

i own a coffee shop in utah. i serve triple-certified organic coffee only, roasted by caffe ibis. charbucks is hideous coffee.it contains ddt in every cup. all decaf has arsenic as well. p.s. pete's is starbucks in disguise, he was one of the founders of starbucks with schultz and left to start his own. some roasting methods, same shitty beans, same ddt etc.

~rant starts~ In my life I have had the displeasure of drinking at Starbucks once (yucky tazo chai). And ask 90% of my school and they will tell you one thing, Caribou Coffee is better than Starbucks. They have real tea, real coffee and use english words for their sizes (you remember those words, small, medium, and large right?). Basically if we had to settle on a chain we'll go to Caribou, self owned is even better but Starbucks is a major culprit in squashing them at every intersection. I believe I can speak for almost everyone around my neighborhood when I say, "cut the gimicks and make me a cup of caffeine nice and strong, and make it large, not venti!" ~rant complete~

While vacationing in Toronto, My wife and I stopped in a SB located in the Bloor-Yorkville district. I orderd a Cappuccino; and upon picking it it up, it was extremely light. I attempted quietly to inform the young woman who made it that it was nothing but foam. That was a big mistake, she argued loudly that I received what I ordered, and that foam was a part of the drink. I sat down meekly and drank the costly one inch of liquid that I purchased. I know now why they get away with doing this - A coffee house is like a Florest shop in the respect that people view it as a low stress envoronment where friend meet and chat. They use the coffee house appeal to take advantage of their customers. In this case, ex-customer. One cup of foam was enough for me.

I just stumbled on your site, and I am so relieved. I think Starbucks coffee is the most foul, nasty tasting, bitter brew for which I actually paid money. It is as if a pot of coffee cooked to death on its burner, automatically shut off and sat for 3 days. Then, someone poured in extra water and offered it to me with a smile. Yuck!!!!! Thanks for letting me get that out.

A friend of mine received an e-mail about Starbucks not supporting the Iraq war or ANYONE involved. Due to the inclusion of \"anyone\" in that e-mail I decided to investigate their worthyness. I was trying to prove to my friend that e-mails should not be taken at face value. As you stated their web site is easily seen through. Their anti-union stance alone deserves further investigation. Your site helped me to position myself firmly on the side of antistarbuckism. I am disturbed and intimidated by your \"poor spelling and grammar bashing\" tendancies as I myself am a poor speller and grammarian. I trust you realise that spelling and grammar studies reveal no connection with general intellegece. I do agree with bashing those who have poor grammar skills yet point out the failings of others as so many posters do. Good luck in your hating. A new hater of Starbucks

Starbucks has low quality overpriced drinks. Once, when I got a hot chocolate, after finishing it up, I looked at the bottom of the cup and to my horror couldn't even see the bottom due to all the chocolate stuff left in there! So let me add fattening to my first sentence.

I'm not sure how to say this and hope not to be torn apart I'm 36 and disabled, I have worked at starbucks for 6 months since my home was ripped open in all four hurricanes two years ago and have been living in black mold. I have a handicapp son who had a lung disorder, he is a Boggy Creek Kid and A Give Kids the World Child. My Daughter is also disabled. Heart condition. I suffer from Eplisey, and I am healing from 2 strokes. I was born with spinal menigitis. My father brought it back from vietiem. he was a fighter pilot who is now too dying in a V.A. hospital . I write you today to tell you starbucks is telling people that they employ and help the handicapp and help us in any way, I say NOT in my unit. I DO NOT want to be treated different just understand I need some help sometimes with memory like after seizers. please forgive spelling my advocte is not with me at 11:09 p.m. But I can't sleep and have to go to work at 5:00am and have to get this off my mind I have been made fun off for my speech, for knocking out teeth, been made to prove I went to the hospital but still showed up for work on demoral. with a cracked eye sockit.I finally did'nt think it could get any worse They talk down to me all the time but I forgive them because they don"t understand my daily challenges. so I pray for God to give me strenght and show them a soft heart towards me. I asked my G.M. if i COULD CO TO THE BATHROOM see I only have one good kidney. she told me can you wait. I have been thearten to be fired for asking qts so I did"nt ask again. I pooped myself on the front counter in front of thewhole team. I thank GOD my friend was in the lobby reading her book she went to my house got me a pair of new clothes while I was left naked on the bathroom floor waiting for her. Not one person came to check on me. Did you know some people loose their bowels before or during a stroke or seizer? I sat on the floor 30 I could have died on that cold floor before my freind came back. My family is so mad that all I want to do is work part time and they are so mean to me it is unfair. when my freind came back to help me the paper towels in the bathroom could not wash me. she asked my manger excuse me i need to talk to you and she said, I busy. She then said I need towels.I wash in a hand sink the est I could and then finished my shift 2 hours. my manger even talked about what happened to me to a crew member. I know every one says just quit, but i did'nt do anything wrong now she tell me if I have to go I have to tell her I really have to go and I should have told her i had only one good kidney.am I not allowed some privacy. If anyone knows a good handicapp advocy lawyer, i am in the middle of FEMA replacing my home so the black mold does'nt kill us. I am so mentally burnt I only have strenght for church and work right now. I am disabled not unabled and should'nt be forced on welfare. we have enough people abusing the system I have worked since 14 and plan on till my mind stops working. at 36 I can't drive all the time so I need a close job and it took me a long time to remember there crazy drinks upside down 1 shot, you know what I mean. Please some if anyone help me keep what little respect I have left. I just want to do what I can for my family while I still have some brain activity left. I have'nt been promised much but the doctors told me if I don't destress the next stroke could kill me. and I just want my kids to have what other kids have, that prom dress in the window, that red bike at K-mart simple pleasurs in life. I can't take any of it with me and my memory is also going so make them be honest about how they treat handicapp workers. I hope if nothing else this helps someone else to afarid to get help. God Bless Keep strong. And If I am In the hospital before this is all over please tell my kids I never gave up and did this for them.

Pardon my frankness, by what ever happened to brewing one's own coffee? Number one, I have always had problems drinking other people's coffee. It isnt that I refuse to, I just like the coffee I make. Two, I buy coffee ONLY when I am on vacation. Wierd I know, but it goes back to really only liking my coffee. I have always found that when I am on vacation, Starbucks is normally the coffee at the hotels I stay in. I HATE THE COFFEE!!! It is almost always brewed too strong, is old and bitter. Not to mention, way overpriced. UGH. Nothing worse than being overcharged for something that is so inadequate. Not to mention those sweet, frozen psuedo-coffee drinks. WHAT THE HECK? I just don't get it. Oh well, I need to get over it. Take care all.
