I've only been in Starbucks once in my whole life, and that was about two months ago when I first moved to Chicago and didn't know any better... ...not being a big coffee drinker at all, I thought maybe this yuppie trend would hook me as well, but after waiting in the tiny little hole in the wall shop with a dozen other cattle I was asked by the cashier what I wanted. I said, "A Coffee." Apparently though, that isn't good enough. I guess if you go to Starbucks you need to list off twenty ingredients all in a specific order with a fancy name just to get something to drink. I insisted once again that I just wanted a coffee (the cheapest thing on the menu) and then she asks, "with room?" ...and I'm like, "With room? What does that mean?" I guess in the world of Starbucks "with room" means "space for cream and sugar". In the world of normal people however, this term confuses me. So I asked her, "If you always have to ask if someone 'wants room', why not just build in the 'room' and only fill it up to the top (a whopping 1/8" higher!) if someone requests it. You know, so people don't get confused." The end result? She didn't understand me and I was given a 'tall' (there is no small in the world of Starbucks) cup of coffee for nearly $2. I took one sip of that sweetened boiling hot garbage and tossed it in the nearest trashcan. How people waste their $ on this garbage is beyond me.

I love this site so much, I stumbled upon it by accident but I find it very amusing. Personally, I like the starbucks drinks...but before any of you all yell at me; let me explain. I'm 15 years old and I don't enjoy real coffee, however starbucks is like candy to me. And anyone with half a brain knows it's about as fake as it can get, I'm just the type that enjoys sugary drinks... Oh and you guys are right, you really do have snooty clients, the people are so ridiculously mean to the cashiers that I actually get irritated. I work, and I think it's only right to be polite, especially to someone who's serving you. I can see why you all hate the store. Lol. Starbucks sounds like a real bitch.

As a currently employed sbux partner, I must say that Starbucks Coffee Company needs a double shot of their own coffee. Wake up and recognize those who actually strive to make a tolerable working environment. While you Managers, DM's and other high ranking "partners" sit back, pointing fingers to lay the blame for their own short-comings. I have yet to see any kind of reward other than a pin for the bonuses they get while we the working people get 5 stars on the stupid snapshots!!!! Wanna share some of the $500 bonus with the rest of the store you treat like crap? "THANKS A LATTE!!!!"

I met my love of my life at Starbucks where we were both employed. When we first got together i asked my manager if this would be a problem and he said no. In December of 2003 I gave birth to a baby girl ( with less than a warm reaction from my stores partners) When I returned from my leave, I was told we couldn't work in the same store anymore, to make things right I transferred to The closest store (20 miles away) two weeks after transferring my old manager fired my boyfriend without reason (with a newborn at home mind you) I fearing for our finances asked to transfer back to save the 40 mile round trip, A request denied by my district manager for no reason. So there I am having to waste what little money we have to live on driving 40 miles a day. That wouldn't be so bad except that My boyfriend could not find a job because of negative references made by my former manager. My boyfriend was out of work for a year, And I tried to pay all the bills, but on a Batista's salary i could not.My car got repossessed, I fell further and further into debt, now I am at the point of chapter 6 and I really feel that it is the fault of the Starbucks management. Honestly who fires someone who has a newborn at home, The first year of your babys life is meant to be a time to remembered, but thanks to starbucks and the hell that they brought to my family, I wish it would all just go away.

I've probably only had one cup of starbucks coffee in my entire life. I've always been curious about their pricing. Why does it cost so much more? I can taste little difference between their coffee and the selection I get from the 7-11 store. Sambino

The corporations are taking over. Just like how Blockbuster put the little mom and pop video stores out of business, Starbucks is putting the little mom and pop coffee shops out of business. Sad but true. Yes, their coffee is bitter and overpriced.... yes, they are convenient and their fraps are delicious if you are addicted to sugar with the vague hint of coffee in it. When all is said and done most people are just lemmings.

I feel you Xbuxworker. They do the same thing at Blockbuster..pay the absolute minimum and expect you to give 150%. Never any raise ever. And video store customers are the worst!! Sadly i worked there for 8 months. Starbucks coffee tastes like any other coffee you can get at any coffee shop, so why pay 4 or 5 bux for a "cappucino" when you can go to the local circle k or 7-11 and get a large cappucino for less than a dollar!

Starbucks sucks!!! The only reason they can sell coffee for $3 is because caffeine is a drug!! They are glorified drug pushers!! They can't make the same drink the same way twice!! It taste different every time, and half the time it tastes like crap!!! They treat their employees like crap too!!! I am surprised that Howard Schultz is not living in Colombia with all the other drug kingpins!!!!

Starbucks is a corporate scam. It is a Monopoly in violation of federal trade laws that needs to be shut down. They buy up other coffee shops and are more dispicable than microsoft!

My goal in life is to shed the light on all the disgusting dirty low handed tricks Starbucks uses to decieve their customers--- I HATE STARBUCKS, just hate them, their coffee is so disgusting. Unfortunate for the hard working residents of New York City there are hardly any places to get a cup of coffee --- so Starbucks moved in. Even though the city folk are completely aware of the fact the coffee futures are listed in pennies on the TON somehow they too have been suckered into the scam of starbucks. It used to be that you could get anything in new york city, except a cup of coffee. We all know this from the Seinfeld where they call the local diner a "coffee shop". Also this is noted in Pulp Fiction when at the end you may have noted the comment "I'm just a coffee shop owner..." from the manager of the small restaurant. Fortunate for the rest of us they have completly failed in Europe: In Europe everyone knows they are the biggest fraud since Euro Disney. For the good of humanity do not fall into the scam -- Plese Boycott them.

I don't even drink coffee. I think Starbucks sucks because you can't even LOOK at www.starbucks.com without enabling cookies in your browser. As if "remembering who I am" could possibly be a requirement to go look up nutritional information. Just more proof that we live in a world where it is better to make your product as cheaply as possible so you can spend all your money on marketing (instead of just making a good product).

I need some advice. First of all i need a job that is flexible with college so i work at a sbux in california and i am just tired of working there because no one is developing me to move up the ladder. i should be given the Best Actress award---I can't believe I actually act like I'm Miss Happy Barista everytime I go on my shift when i am not happy at all. There's drama going on about my manager and assistant manager sleeping together so now they both have been diciplined by our DM. I was told that once again someone else who has befriended our ASM and who has worked for the company for only 2 months will move up again!!! This person still doesn't know the pastries or how to multi task!!! I'm tired of my management team and I feel like no one is developing me when i have all the skills necessary...i have worked for this company for a long time under the same management thinking that they would one day give me the raise i DESERVE as a supervisor...does anyone have any advice?? should i just quit? Please help.

I worked for starbucks for almost three years. I fricken hate that company. I started when I was 16 and was promoted to shift supervisor when I turned 18. The shift supervisor job was only suppossed to be 20 hours a week because I was going to college. Well, it turned into 38 to 40+ hours a week. The manager would under staff all the time and sit on her fat butt in the backroom doing nothing. It would take her 6 hours to do the schedule...I mean come on the fricken computer does it for you. Because my ex-manager was such a bi%^h, people where quitting left and right and once she would hire some people they would quit. She would be so understaff that I would be worked 10 to 15 days in a row then one day off and it was a almost common occurence. I HATE that company and I have not worked there in over a year and I will NEVER work there again or go and buy coffee from that place either. They treat their employees like crap and the managers will blame the other employees for their mistakes. The managers will write and fire people if they do not like you, and mangers will only promote people they like not by their skills...this company is suppossedly one of Fortune 500 companies...I wonder where they get there infromation...most people that work for starbucks fu^^kin HATE that place.

Those mother(star)buckers closed down the best coffee shop in the local mall, Gloria Jeans. Gloria held on as long as she could, but ultimately the sassy spresso diva overcame all. During the cohabitance I periodically went to the mother (star) buckers to coherce the clientel to indulge in a divinely caffinated experience at Ms Jeans. The mother (star) buckers even tried to give me free slop to calm my rage, but all the mother (star) bucker beans in the corporate world couldnīt turn me to thier slimey scum.

I'm not fond of Starbuck's. Their coffee is overpriced as are their pastries. I dislike it when I'm asked if I'd like something to go with my drink? The pastry is just as expensive as the drink, so why would I do something that stupid? Which begs the question of why I"m in there in the first place. Well, it's the closest to where I work, unfortunately. Why can't they learn to ring up orders efficiently? What's so damned hard about it? Why does someone bark at me asking what I want, and then I have to wait for 5 minutes to pay while it sits on the bar, getting cold. My policy, is if they don't ring me up by the time the drink is made, the drink is free. No one has called me on this one. Also, whose idea is it to constantly play retro hits from the 50's, 60's and 70's all damned day long? I liked Dylan's Ballad of a Thin Man back in college and hearing it every so often is fine, but every day of the week? It's like required reading in high school. Who designs the curriculum? What are they trying to teach us? I like Sly and the Family Stone too, but I"m not interested in buying the CD's from long ago. Nor ETta James'. And please, no more "It was a Very Good Year". I know it's a classic. Let's keep it that way.

It's not the coffee I hate, it's the branding. 10 years ago, there was only 1 or 2 Starbucks in Boston. Nobody heard of it and all they wanted was their Dunkin Donuts coffee. By 2000, Starbucks had become the "hip" drink even though people were getting gouged. Their "Short" now became a "tall" and everything else became overpriced there too. People don't buy the coffee because it's good, they buy the image. The "sheep" who think that Starbucks is any good need to try a real coffee. I don't think Starbucks drinkers are cool, they're just bigger posers.

Love the site! I've just been sacked from Starbucks (well, encouraged to resign) for not toeing the party line and becoming another mindless Starbuck clone. It's a scary, scary place - they give employees a whole days brainwashing session so that they can spout how wonderful the organisation is. They're the Jehovah Witnesses of the Coffee world. Keep up the good work. ;o)

OK...so I hate them due to one of my offspring working for them. They have such a self opinionated, high and mighty pseudo intellectual view of themselves, my daughter despises them and as for the poor excuse of a human being who is her manager!! If my kid wasn't busting a gut to get herself educated and needed the cash badly that cow would be wearing her colon as a bandana! Here's where it gets truly weird though, the customers are also in the main, at the bottom of the evolutionary chain. Sad loners who grief her with crap like 'you gave me 2 shots and I only wanted one and a half'. The whole issue is an enigma to me, I live to see the day the chain goes to the wall. Good luck to you from the UK

I was reading a few, and again noticed that some are from starbucks employees, I too happen to be one in california. Initially starting out working for the company was great, great tips, great environment but a few months ago everything went to hell. Management changed, our DM changed, so our entire store was shifted. Vacation time I had put in for about 7 months ago, two weeks ago I was denied it, because they couldn't afford to let me go. So....leaving starbucks was the only thing to do, yet when they heard I would quit they kissed my ass. I still left. I dont know what the hype about starbucks is, they are putting the little coffee shops out of business, I drive past about 2 smaller ones everyday and NO ONE is in them, everyone is at one of the 4 starbucks on the same damn street. I used to pay about 100 a month on starbucks...I hate myself for doing that but I became involved in the hype, but no longer will I. The customers feel the need to come in to starbucks and tell their problems, their life stories, like we are their shrink. You are expected to be happy 24/7, and if you don't you get written up. What a great company that doesnt allow their employees to experiance their emotions for what they are, they are trained to feel and act. I just think, put the hole in the wall coffee shops back in business, they deserve the money more then starbucks does.

I can understand the disdain toward Starbucks among big city folks (particularly on the coasts). But if I lived in some podunk red state town, I'd be mighty grateful for such a place. Their coffee does leave something to be desired, however... ihatewalmart.

Just finished reviewing my stock holdings and had a bright idea. How about *bux purchasing Krispy Kreme Doughnuts (KKD) and peddling those ultrasugar vanilla bombs along with the lattes? Now there is a marriage made in heaven. What do you think baristas? But don't count on me for support; I'm already a diebetic.

i have worked for sbux for several years and not once have i ever been asked by managemnt for the chance of promotion. my manager has favorites and has even commented to other baristas, "that's why your still a barista." i am a very good worker that provides the legendary service they pay us for (which may i add is chump change)yet they promote people who kiss their as- and become their friends--not based upon the merit of skill but what friendship or gifts you can offer the manager. I have open availability, am a great multi tasker, cover shifts when asked, and i had to basically beg for a promotion, explain my financial need and was told i would move up...yet no action has been taken. i'm fed up and not treated fairly. i feel humiliated everytime the manager's new best friend is promoted. part of the sbux mission statement is to treat others with respect and dignity...well where the hell is mine???
